What do you think? I LOVE the first one, perhaps one of the best horror movies ever made. Was not crazy about the 2nd/3rd. Now this one, to me does not look scary at all?
What are your thoughts.

I really hope this one lives up to the hype. The original was incredible. The sequel should stay close to the first one's scheme which made it so damn scary. Lot's of the "pure" evil and less of the movie magic type special effects. Leave more to the imagination and the mind will come up with the terror.

I am not that interested in the theatrical release, but I am interested in seeing it compared to the "straight to DVD" version that was shot by a completely different director (before they canned him and reshot the whole movie). I am curious to see how two different people go about telling the same story and want to see how much of a difference the director really makes.

Look at the IMDB rating, it should give you good insight as to how good it really is: http://imdb.com/title/tt0204313/
C'mon now, did you HONESTLY think it was gonna be good?

Ok for starters I'll put this very blunt. Fuck all the negative reviews. That and no real portion of this entire post is directed to any post made on this thread.
This is not some 10/10 rating movie, it wont go down in history, but god damn this movie isnt nearly as bad as the critics are putting to be. I just came back from seeing this and would rate it a good solid 7/10 (That is SEVEN), it was a entertaining horror movie for what it was made to be. People cant seem to just let go the fact that the first was better and the next should be too. I dont know if you all remember but the other 2 sequels (1.5 technically) sucked compared to the first as well. Take the movie for what its worth, not for what you wish it to be. I just get overly frustrated at people who constantly bash movies, and complain how little thought or highly indepth plot is in it. I dont know when it changed around your areas, but in my town we go to see movies for a nice 2 hour escape from the world for entertainment values. We dont see these movies to have a intellectual or spiritual experience that will forever change our lives. Movies are made to make money. Sorry for the rant, but I needed that after the last few movies that came out and the number of people who cant seem to understand they are there for entertainment. And for those of you who dont like reading post more then 2 sentences long: 7.0 / 10.0 +Great eerie feelings +Good use of darkness +Kept me wanting more the whole time. -Excessive use of the average horror movie scare tactic before a big scene happens. Spoiler: birds flying by, dogs jumping at the screen, suddenly somone non-important dying -Some cheesey graphics.

Okay I ain't hating on the film but I thought it was rather stupid and cheezy..especially towards the end. Very predictable too. I will give you the good use of eery elements but thats about it.
Spoiler: Where the fuck was this guy throughout the entire movie? Cause I didn't see him once...I know he was in the freakin trailer for the movie but he didn't show up in the actual movie. The last 30 or 40 min. made no sense what so ever....first before that in the begining the hyennas kill the boys brother but do absolutely nothing to him...so you think he's evil....Then later on they try to kill the boy and take the devil out of him and their bones start breaking back etc. The woman has a scary nightmare about the boy....then she turns out to be the possesed?! And to top it all of the little boy wasn't even scared of her. That makes no sense at all....And as soon as she turned into the evil chick it just became complete shit after that...cheezy as hell and more comedic if anything than scary though I didn't laugh...or jump out of my seat once. Only semi-creepy part is when the Hyenas rip the boy to shreds...on top of that it was mostly just eery set-ups to predictable unscary moments. Sorry I just didn't think it was all that great....maybe not the worst movie ever but definitely not something to shout about. Asta!!

All I can say is I will never, ever, ever, watch a Renny Harlin movie. The man has no talent whatsoever. I just shake my head when I see movie studios put directors like that in charge of movies they have high hopes for.
Kind of like John Carpenter, was a great director at one time but most of his movies in the 90's sucked piss water. Although had Carpenter directed, I might have gone to see this movie. All well.... enough of my babbling.

I thought it was ok. Nothing can live up to the scariest movie of all time, Exorcist, so don't expect too much. It is one of the better horror movies that I've seen lately. After M. Night Shamylan (or however you spell it) let me down a bit with the Village, I was ready for something that had a decent storyline. Because of the connections with the original movie, the audience is able to relate to the main character and the frightening moments.

I have nothing good. It's like paying full price to see maybe 3 or 4 good scenes scattered 10/15 min apart.

I'm not even going to waste time writing a lengthy review on why this movie sucked.
but here's a couple short points... 1) from the perspective of it using the Exorcist name, it's a sad, horrible attempt at trying to make a buck off of a classic. It resembles the original in no way (regardless of situation, it has none of the psychological turmoil and tension of the original). it makes little to no attempt at actually giving a real back story to the original, and kind of stumbles through the facts to relate it to the orginal at all. 2) from the perspective of it being a movie on it's own.. it still sucks. all the horror elements are just lame shock tactics. it uses CGI for the sake of CGI. the action scenes appear to be in there merely to be as cool as every other movie comming out these days. stumble stumble, lame lame lame. cookie fucking cutter. I theater hopped into this movie, an dI'm glad I did... I almost left half way through =P |
