Director Commentaries....
Who the FUCK likes these damn Director Commentaries n shit? Last night I saw Godsend. Pretty good movie. Then I tried to watch the 4 alternate endings that were under the special features. I tried 4 times to turn the fuckin director commentary off and each time the damn shit came on anyway. Sayin some stupid shit like "And here you see her walking through the woods.." NO SHIT SHERLOK! Thanx for mentioning that. I couldn't hear any of the fuckin dialogue at all cause those 2 fuckers were fuckin yappin throughout the whole damn thing. Even when they said something like "Oh pay attention to this part right here.." I think good they're gonna shut the fuck up and then as soon as it starts they start yappin off again n shit. I thought Commentary was giving a comment. Like every once in a while say...I like this part...then shut the fuck up...I didn't really like this part because...then shut the fuck up.
Was it just me or did anyone else think the actual end of the movie set it up for a possible series of other movies about the boys character...like The Omen movies? Asta!! |
I'm not familiar with the movie but it's on my list of movies to watch.
I do like the commentaries, and I expect them to speak throughout the scenes. That's what the audio button is for on the remote, so that you can rewind and change back to the other audio after the director/actor/whomever speaking describes. Sometimes the commentaries are funny like in Nemo where it's the kids talking about the movie. |
It wouldn't let me watch them without the Commentaries. In a case where it's a scene I've already seen and enjoyed it's just fine but when it's an alternate ending and I can't even hear the actors doing what they do best that just annoys the hell outta me. Otherwise commentaries can be funny or interesting...but not when you completely take away from the scene itself while others are trying to enjoy it.

depends on the movie. the commentary tracks for LOTR #1 rocked. The commentary track for Clerks, on the other hand, is a complete waste of time.

I can say that they have helped me understand movie making much better. |
Yeah I thought that was weird too. Maybe if we get another DVD it will let us turn off the commentaries.

Some director's give fantastic commentaries but for the most part they're horrendous... I don't want to listen to Bret Ratner masturbate over himself while watching Red Dragon.
Fight Club's commentary is one of my favourites, as is Panic Room (3 Disc Set). Finch knows his shit. Also, Robert Rodriguez gives good ones as does Ridley Scott. |
On the whole, I'm a huge fan of commentaries on DVDs, though I usually prefer mixed actor/director ones over just the director. On a good commentary, you can learn so much more about the movie and little quirks about it and how they made it. On a bad commentary, you can turn it off and watch the movie instead.
The fight club commentaries are great, as Mr.Deflok mentioned, and there are several more that I'm blanking out on right now that are great as well. As for your issue, my only guess is they screwed up and made it really obscure how to switch the commentary on or off for them. Maybe a button for it blended into the background of a dvd menu screen or something, my only guess. Either that or someone who made the dvd royally farked up. |
Evil dead 1 & 2 and Army of Darkness (directors cut) all have great and hilarious comentary
|
Well, sometimes on alternate scenes/endings, they do have obligitory commentary. I think it's just so the directors/producers/whoever can say why they cut the scene.
If you look at the story-board only alternate ending for "28 Days Later", the commentary is definately obligatory. |
This is Spinal Tap: Best Commentary Ever

I agree Derwood...the original was funny enuff...but with the Commentary its like a completely new movie hehehe
"he's dead now" I also loved the commentary on Braveheart |
