...are you joking or something?
This looks like a steaming pile of crap. I hope it fails so that nobody will ever attempt anything close.

I saw it tonight at a free screening thing.
I have mixed feelings, but here's my rant on it. Spoiler: I'd been waiting for this movie ever since I saw the alien skull trophy in Predator 2. I knew before even going in tonight that the tagline would probably be too true, 'Whoever wins, we (the audience) lose.' My main complaints are the contradictions to the earlier films. The timespan/life cycle of the eggs to face huggers to impregnation to ejection to full aliens seemed to take 15minutes not a few days like in the earlier alien movies. The old explanation of the predators coming to earth in the hottest summers contradicts with them coming to one of the coldest places on earth. I would have preferred a slower paced more horror oriented movie, or at least a decent action flick. I realized that I would have to suspend my disbelief while watching this but it just takes me out of the moment when common sense inaccuracies are screaming out at me throughout the movie. How are the trained fellas packing the big guns going to be the first to die? And I can’t remember seeing anyone's steamy breath while being in an underground ice cave in Antarctica. Were we even supposed to believe it was cold? Furthermore it doesn’t make sense why a predator wouldn’t just kill some woman to get its gun back. I guess this predator just had a heart of gold or something. And the predator king or whatever at the end just left the chick a spear as a reward for all her hard work. I mean, she's alone, wearing a t-shirt, and she just saved the day, and he doesn’t give her a ride or anything, not even a blanket. I guess he just expected her to stab herself in the face with it to end the pain of freezing to death. And another thing, the two pleasure giving moments I hoped would be in the movie were not. I was hoping the "sequel guaranteeing" ending with the 'predatalien' would have been one of the main features of the film, not some just some gimmick to setup another summer blockbuster. Another point I wanted to see was a skinned alien or two hanging upside-down in the pyramid dripping with green acid, reminiscent of the bloody soldiers found in the first predator movie. If they just would have shown a glimpse of that, it would have done it for me, I would have been satisfied. But despite all these complaints, I actually, overall, enjoyed the movie, but I think it should have been much better.

Meh.
First off, I hate it when people call something shit without evidence to back it up. (Sorry, but I've had way too much experience with this annoyance) I think it looks good. I mean, sure, everyone had their own imagination of what a fight between an Alien and a Predator would look like. Well, like how you tell us your reviews of movies, this is Paul Anderson's imagination of it. I respect your opinions, I respect that this man has made is movie how he liked it. If I agree with his imagination, then I hope you'll respect that. /rant It does look like a cheesy movie, though.

Ditto but my biggest prob is
<font size=7>PG-13 W T F were they thinking?!!</font> You ain't gonna see someones spine ripped out of their back in a fuckin PG-13 movie nor acid spit melting through ones torso either. Dammit that pisses me off. And yeah Halx I'm DEAD serious about this. Don't care if yer opinion of me lessens either I've been waiting for this movie to come around for 14 years. Ever since Predator 2 came out in 1990 and you see an alien skull in the Predators mothership and I thought to myself...."How FUCKIN SWEET would that be to see them fight it out?!" Then the video games (which kicked major ass) and the comics (also kicked major ass) came out. Asta!!

I can still respect someone who finds entertainment in these movies. Maybe it's the way they've marketed it that makes me wary. It just seems so formulaic to me. People may bite at me for bashing without having seen it, but speaking for all the critics out there who condemn the movie before they've seen it, I don't wanna be the one to take it for the team.

As a huge fan of both originals, I think this looks like a pile of crap. I will probably still see it. Hopefully I can get in for free. I am expecting entertainment on a strictly "Freddy vs Jason" level.

I find that my expectations play a large role in how well I like a movie, particularly in the Action/Sci-fi/Comic genre. For example, I had no expectations for the 1st Matrix movie and was blown away. For the second and third, I went with very high expectations and was disappointed both times. For AvP, I'll go in with VERY LOW expectations!

I liked Freddy vs Jason!
I mean, not in the sense of, "Damn, this is quality cinema.." but more or less a good time. I took it for what it was worth, but I've been a fan of Freddy/Jason since I can remember. AvP... the movies were awesome, but the PG-13 rating is a strict indication of how good it will be. Alien/Predator weren't PG-13, this movie shouldn't be either. There will be an extreme lack of gore, which is what made the A/P movies so great... that and the horror/suspense. You can just TELL it won't be here... not with PG-13. Impossible. I mean, it might be slightly entertaining, but it certainly won't be what many consider a GOOD movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing it as a good popcorn flick where I can escape reality and watch some fantasty sci-fi. I've always wondered how cool it could be to mix two bad guys or two good guys in the same movie.
I enjoyed Freddy vs Jason but then again I didn't go in expecting oscar caliber material. Got to see some skin, some blood, and two of my favorite baddies duking it out. Now we get to see two more popular baddies duking it out, what more could one ask for in a summer special effects popcorn movie?

I agree with Halx. It looks terrible. I haven't seen it, and I don't want to. If it's free, sure. There are just to many other things I'd rather spend money on than this. Don't they find an Aztec like temple in Antarctica or something? It just sounds lame. Maybe i'll be surprised though.
It just better not have some cheap out ending where the humans end up winning. I want the humans to all die for a change.

To those who've seen it:
Spoiler: Is it true that the last predator kills the last alien with the help of the girl (Lex?), but then the predator dies, so the humans really win?

the instant i heard that it was PG-13 i KNEW that they werent out to make a good movie. they were hoping to capitalize on their spending costs in the first few weeks to make some money.....thats it.
a real AvsP movie would be fucking cool. something rated R, something that actually showed people getting killed, something that had swearing, something where everyone dies a violent death (ie every other Alien and Predator movie.) i am severely dissappointed in the directing direction that was taken. sadly though, as shitty as this movie is supposed to be......i'm still going to find myself going to see it. the whole AvsP thing has been so anticipated by me its not even funny. but i'm not spending $9 to see it......but more like $3.50 at the driveins |

It's because of the computer game guys

Did anyone else think the Predators were kind of toned down, I mean where the hell are their sweet ass cannons and shit? and... Spoiler: When the last one plants his bomb and like runs away, what a pansy. Isnt that against like Predator code or something haha... |

PG-13 isn't a death nail. I'm sure they are thinking a lot of kids wanted to see this movie and rightfully so.
Also, as for marketing, they'll make a bundle in the theatres then when the DVD comes out with the "deleted scenes" (they had to cut to get a PG-13 rating instead of an "R"), they'll come close to doubling that take. Personally, I think it has a great potential, but from the previews and the reviews I've read it sounds like they lacked the imagination to create a truly good classic movie, and just went for the name and franchise value. Which is idiotic because as seen with the last couple Star Treks and Bond movies, you can destroy a very profitable franchise fast by not giving it the creativity and quality the fans deserve.

I realy enjoyed this movie, despite severe misgivings due to the rating- the plot made sense, and any contradictions can be easily explained- especialy if one takes into account the comics and other assorted stuff they drew from- overall it was neat, and the rating did not detract from the suspense and jump outa your seatness of the film- ps- who caught the subtle bishop homage?

Thanks Red!
Spoiler: Just to address some of the complaints and make some new ones: K1ng: The guys with guns die first, since their enemy is invisible and they have no idea what the hell they're fighting in the first place. Plus the body armor of the predators protects them from most small arms fire. As for the Pred taking on the chick, he had already completed his end of the deal, and honored the chick for killing an alien as well. The skinning of aliens wouldn't work, since their acid would prevent any skinning as it would be too dangerous. Stunt: They didn't really send the Predators, the Preds choose that to show that they are mature. Also, the Predator "code" only allows 3 to go at a time, hence only 3 cannons. Ryan: The cannon's are basically prizes that they get once they reach that point. As for my complaints, the predalien at the end popping out was just cheesy. Also, the Predator's seemed way too out of it, i.e. not noticing Aliens sneaking up right behind them. Also, the amount of guns owned by the team is just plain rediculous. Other than that, I thought it was a really fun movie!

Just got done watching it. Without giving anything away, it was quick, violent, and if you are looking for a heavy plot don't bother. This movie is total fan service, and I loved every minute of it. The action was great, the preditors and aleins looked really good, and the acting was no bad. Not great, but not bad. It's a good summer-put-your-brain-in-your-pocket-movie.
I really hope they make another.

That was even worse than I thought. My buddy wanted to see it, and though I told him it was going to suck, we went. He apologized afterwards.
Spoiler: The death of the black team leader in EXACTLY the same fashion as he bought it in RE was not good(Paul Anderson is lazy). The super-fast spawning aliens were obnoxious. The human eyes on the predator, dumb. The fact that the heroine would freeze to death after the predators left, hilarious. The ending, obvious and lame. Many other issues I won't bother to go into. The worst movie I've seen since Underworld.

I saw it with my mom and sister last night. I would say I was pleased with the movie overall. The "predalien" at the end was kinda wack. Why did the alien come out of the predator as a "hybrid?" It was a very "Freddy vs. Jason" type ending, where the question of "well who won" isn't really answered. I liked how it ended, and hope they make another.
