I can't get enough of them... I have the whole Monty Python Flying Circus dvd's, all of Are You Being Served, Wallace and Gromit, next ones I'd like to have are Absolutely Fabulous and The Office...

I have to agree... I am a big fan of British cinema...

I love the Ealing comedies of the 40s, the Hammer Horrors of the 60s and 70s, Powell and Pressburger... it's all good...

I hear that they are making an "Americanization" of it: I can 100% gaurantee you that it will be awful. Get a hold of the original if at all possible. It is one of the funniest comedy shows of all time; written by and starring Irish commedians, and produced by a British sudio (channel 4).

Also, you have to see Fawlty Towers, if you have not yet done so. It stars John Cleese (of python fame) (Again an attrocious americanization was made: avoid at all costs). As of the original: twelve episodes of insipered genuis! A must see.

Im a major fan of red dwarf. But recently Ive discovered a show called 'The Mighty Boosh'. The other night I was crying bacause I was laughing so hard at it. Check it out

I've heard a ton of great things about The Office, but I haven't seen it yet.. I really need to track down a copy.

A series which is out on dvd soon is Little Britain if you like python type humour may find it funny. I think it is hilarious.

The Office is pretty funny, but I actually liked Ricky Gervais's character on the 11 O Clock show better.

Fawlty Towers is probably the classic slapstick comedy, definitely recomended. Garth Megange's (sic badly!) Darkside is also classic.

Right then...As far as films go. A film called "Love, Honor and Obey" is downright awesome.

One of my favourite movies is About a Boy. It's British (which is why I bring it up) and it's actually a movie (your subject title speaks of movies but you mention TV shows...). You might like Bridget Jones' Diary since it's British as well.

As for TV shows, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Coupling. It's new, it's funny, and it's oh so British...

I really recommend "Coupling". It's like "Friends" and "Sex in The City" at the same time, but still not. It's a really really great series.

I heard the american remake failed badly, but the UK version rocks.

Father Ted is bloody good - I've seen each eposide lots of times and it still makes me laugh - if you can get hold of a DVD with them on I promise you will not regret spending your cash.

Lock stock and two smoking barrels, a classic of black comedy in my opinion, not quite in the same vein as the other suggestions, but still british and still great heh

For a more recent movie, Shaun of the Dead was pretty good.

Another great film, which I can't remember the name of, was about a guy who goes out for a drink with his work mates. He drinks a load of tequila and ends up killing his workmate but he can't remember this is in the morning and goes to work as if nothing happened.

If anyone knows what it's called, I'd love to know.

It was short-ish film shown late on channel 4's shooting gallery series about 7-8 years ago.

For those of you who enjoyed Shaun of the Dead: It is quite simply mandatory for you to check out the tv series Spaced.

It is written and directed by, and starring, the people behind Shaun of the Dead. It is quite simply the best. Utterly surreal, and undescribably brilliant. It is one of the greatest tv shows ever made: yet sadly is is incredibly obscure, which his a shame.

Luckily, since Shaun of the Dead came out, quite a number of people have seeked it out, which I am delighted about. This show deserves recognition: You are commanded to get it!

All of these kick ass.

Oh, and here's another vote for The Office.
This is a another British tv series which is going to get the "Americanization" treatement. It may or may not suck terribly as Ricky Gervais (the writer and star of the original) is involved. What his level of involvement is, I don't know.

This is about the only comedy show that I can think of, that actually made me feel uncomfortable! Some of the situations are so embarrassing and the characters so pathetic, that it actually transends comedy and becomes uncomfortable to watch causing you to shift nervously in your seat. Great stuff!

The Office and Ab Fab are hilarious, while Red Dwarf still makes me chuckle.

But the best I ever say, even though it had a short run, was Ultraviolet.
Got it on DVD (sic) when I was abroad.

Yes, and after you are done with everything Douglas Adams wrote, you can move over to Tom Holt, who does the same thing with fantasy (but current day England) rather than science fiction.

I liked Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, as well as Trainspotting.

I also very much like the League of Gentlemen. This is a very hilarious comedy the fictional town of Royston Vasey and its very odd inhabitants (Not the POS movie with Sean Connery). Some other favorites:
