At the risk of taking this weird thread in a weirder direction:

Son Goku: named after the Monkey King from Journey to the West, which the original story arc of Dragon Ball was based on.

Bulma: Or Buruma, girl's gym shorts. Everyone in her family's named after undergarments.

Oolong and Puar: types of tea

Yamcha: Or Yamucha, Dim Sum

Piccolo: The little flute, of course. All of the original Piccolo's henchmen were named after instruments.

Gohan: Rice, or lunch. All Saiyan names derive from vegetables.

Krillin: Or Kuririn, a chestnut. His daughter was named Marron, which is French for chestnut.

Bibidi, Babidi, & Buu: Duh.

wash rinse repeat. The problem is only that to keep the storyline impressive, good guys have to gain power on a logarithmic scale- now it's at a point where it's just ridiculous.

^ Yes I agree. Episodes were much more exciting when they could still become more powerful.

Yeah, somehow I actually enjoyed the training segments of the show and the in-between battle parts of the show more than the meat of the show, because that was where you got some good character development.
