Once again, I must compliment and applaud Stompy's attitude and view on this matter. He is entirely correct, in my opinion. People's expectations for this movie have, and will be for some time, far too high or are expecting something entirely different from what they'll get from watching these movies. It's the same as with the Matrix Trilogy, or rather the latter 2/3 of the trilogy. If you expected a re-telling of the original, guess what, that's not what you're getting. If you start making up reasons for the movie to suck, then guess what, for you, it's gonna suck. If you don't accept the changes as decisions of what the artists who created the source material deem as acceptable, then you're obviously gonna think it sucks. I think we have exhausted this topic of "SW is gonna suck because X wasn't like the original trilogy" to the point where saying it's akin to beating a dead horse.

never have seen more than a minute of it or so, but there have been no compelling reasons to watch it yet and the dialogue I saw about McDonald's food struck me silly or stupid.

As far the latest Star Wars film, my expectations are the same as they were the for first two - none at all, the film can live or die on its two feet.
The first two mostly flounder and flop for agonisingly long periods, show some good moments (the pod race for example), then die painful overly CGI deaths while the talented actors try to work with a languid script and screenplay.
This one may be fanstatic or the biggest piece of s--t since Titantic but I would withhold all judgement and evaluations until I have seen the final product. If Jar-Jar is killed by a light sabre or (even better) by a slow torturous method then I would pay just to see that in the theatres.

If you haven't watched Pulp Fiction yet, you

a) don't know what you're missing
b) are not really a movie fan
c) have very particular tastes

I can see em, but they could easily have been put together by a fan -- which doesn't make them any less awesome.

as an aside from this thread, agreed. I thought Tarantino was an idiot and just a hack at the right time and right place until I watched Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. While the McDonald's dialogue is the most trite of the conversations, there are countless others in his writing that are incredible.

There wasn't a single thing wrong with the McDonald's dialogue :)

have not seen either one of those films, but I have seen some of the spoofs of the dance scene with Travolta and Urman. Is Reservoir Dogs the film where the chaps are all different colours?

I did like the original From Dusk to Dawn but most of his movies fail to even register on my radar and Silent films or films before 1950ish or so tend to get my attention that much more. Films that are mostly action orientated dreck like Kill Bil Vol. 1 tend to push me away from his work in general though.

creeping back ontopic, after some thinking I probably will rent Episode 3 when it hits DVD. As previously mentioned, If any kind of Jar Jar death scene is in this one then the odds of me seeing it in the theatres near the end of the run rise quite a bit.

yes, RD = chaps all different colored names. I too enjoy the old films too having watched all the golden age films long ago, and the movies I tend to like best are the ones that have good solid writing and screenplay.

Special effects are nice, but are necessary if the reset of it comes together well.

Obviously, you are letting KB V.1 color your perception of Tarantino too much. That was his most action oriented film, believe me. There was 100 times more action in that film than any of his others, including KB V.2. Now, they are all crime/violence oriented, and the violence can be extreme and graphic, but I would not call any of his works outside of KB V.1 an action movie. He is a good director with a distinct style, but, much like Star Wars, I believe he is very overrated.
