Official Amazing Race Thread (Spoilers will ensue)
Who saw amazing race last night. This is gonna be the first season where I am going to try and watch the whole series, I never had time in previous years.
I must say it looks like fun and entertaining. The fact that teams are breaking down and bickering like crazy during the very first leg of the race just fortells some magnificent scraps to come. A couple of observations and random questions:- Who wants the awesome looking twins to stay in the race till the end? Who takes a midget on a RACE?!? Must be for the comedy factory. Who think Alison (of former Big Brother fame) is a hillarios control freak and probably wears leather and whips Donny the boyfreind? Who thinks Donny is just gonna snap one of these days?

I think the Amazing Race is probably the best Reality Show out there. It's usually smart and well crafted. My only gripe about it is that it is often on relatively late (for those of us who have to be up at 5 AM!)

I've watched the last 2 seasons and really enjoy the show.
No team has really endeared themselves to me yet. I really like the circus clowns two years ago and the air traffic guys as well. So at this point, I'm not really rooting for anyone yet.

I really like the Amazing Race. It is always interesting to see the different parts of the world, and unlike survivor, it is isn't boring 99.9 percent of the time. Most of the time it is pretty intense

It usually takes awhile for me to warm up to one of the teams, it's hard to tell what they're like from just one episode. Did anyone else find it funny when the little person kept talking about how she could do anything anyone else can, maybe even better, and then she had to be pulled along by her partner when they were running towards the cars at the very begining? She may have some advantages that others don't, but there are definitly some things that she cannot do as well.

The short-person aspect is interesting, but other than being a slower runner, I think she is the better competitor. She carried the side of beef without whining the whole time.
And if Donny and Alison are still in the race at the end, I think there will be domestic disturbance calls within weeks of the end of the race.

I do agree, she is a lot stronger than her partner - I respected her after the whole side-of beef thing. When I saw her run though I did burst out into laughter - my wife got all mad at me, but I just found it hillarious. Her 'cousin' is kinda hot too. With her hair up in that tight white shirt with the bloodstains? I dunno - kinda erotic

Awesome season start!
Did you feel a twinge go through your leg, like I did, when they described the older guy's wound? *cringe* Tough bastard. I'd take the little cousin over her whiny cousin any day. I laughed when they walked right past the butcher. Wtf is Alison doing still on tv???

i'm interested to see how the "yield" will play into strategy this season. i'm kind of confused on how it works, though... can you only make teams yield which are behind you? or can you choose a team that is already past the yield point? also, does this mean they won't have any "fast forwards" this season?

Last year on big brother I watched it with a passion just because Allison "turns my crank"... now that shes on this Good stuff kids, good stuff...
/pigish rant Looks good. I really think its super cool that the little person wants to prove something but going in a race with a set of twins that look like professional long distance runners isn't the place to do it. I think it sucks that the old guy busted up his knee but the daughter is a great support. Now, on to the bickering. I predict this year that there will be so much fighting that you wince. I predicted Ally and Donno to win it because well... Whats with the Yield?

It looks like the yield can only be used for someone who is behind you at that point. If you are in first at given point, I don't think you can be forced to wait. It could be interesting if they put a yield at a point where someone needs to catch a plane or boat, and it causes them to miss the departure...

I loved the couple that are models, they just kept doing stupid stuff. That's quality television right there.

Anybody want to bet that there will be a task where the little person's size is advantageous?
I didn't get to watch the whole thing but I do like the show. Who got eliminated (if anyone)?

A couple of comments:
The father-daughter team is screwed. That wound will keep opening up. It will probably get infected too. I loved the team with the little person. They speak 6? languages between them. I loved it when the little woman said "Put the meat on my shoulders!" She's a badass. (Though If they made it to the final leg, they would be easily defeated in the final sprint). The twin women and the big brother couple were obnoxious. I wanted them to lose, but if they stay on, they will make the show more interesting. |

Well, all of the Big Brother fans rooting "for" Donny and Allison can relax now. From first to last, that takes some effort.
It is starting to get interesting in that there is no predictability on who will make a mistake and cost them major time. I was annoyed that everyone was able to recoup their time by making the ferry (although I thought the cousins were going to be left behind - damn human nature of pitying the disadvantaged.)

I was totally shocked and actually quite pleasently suprised that the cousins made second place - the two of them are hopeless!
Who else REALLY REALLY wanted to see the midget chase the cows? Alison and Donny leaving was a bit of a dissapointment, watching their constant bickering and love-hate relationship is quite amusing and I'll certainly miss that. I like how Chip got into the scrap with the twins. He did the right thing and cannot forget that this is a game for a pile of cash. No mr. nice guy.

Well, with 5 of the 11 teams eliminated, it's time to handicap the field and figure out who we think has the best shot. I'll rank the team in what I think is the order of most likely to win to least likely to win and why:
1. Colin and Christie: Even though they ruffle the feathers of Charla and Mirna, they seem to have their heads on straight. They've come in first the last 2 legs, and despite the producers' efforts to make us think that the couple is dysfunctional, I think they are smart and fit enough to make it to the final three, where their youth and brains could make them the big winners. 2. Chip and Kim: Though their ages might put them at a slight disadvantage over the younger teams, they have one big advantage: They are having a great time. These guys never fight amongst themselves, and Chip seems to be having the time of his life. Add to that that he is easily the strongest physically among the remaining men, and you could easily see this team win it all. 3. Nicole and Brandon: I think these guys are rather boring, but I'm starting to believe that they aren't as vapid as they first appeared. And when God is rooting for you, you can't lose, right? 4. Charla and Mirna: Ok, I've been rooting against this team from the first episode, mostly because I think the tall one is evil. But their whole "the world is against us and we have to prove them wrong" mantra seems to be getting them farther than I ever thought (or wanted) them to. I still hope they go down in flames. 5. Kimmi and Karli: No team who is this dumb and fights this much is capable of winning the race. Ok, that's not true, as Floe and Zach won a few season's ago. Still, these girls don't even understand the clues when they read them. I have a feeling that a savvy team could easily eliminate these guys by sending them in the wrong direction somewhere. 6. Linda and Karen: These girls have moxie and are definitely smart, but you can't keep coming in 2nd to last and hope to hang around long. Somewhere along the line, I foresee a roadblock or detour that is going to get the best of these ladies. They are still fun, and I'd rather see them win over 1/2 the other teams in the race.

I have to agree with your standings. Although the producers do whatever they can to keep it close (see:let team with 7 hour lead leave 6.5 hours before the first challenge can be performed.), the teams do have a tendency to fall into the same order.

So who goes tonight? I'm betting the bowling moms. Unless it's another stupid "non-elimination leg". I hate those. I would rather they have 4 more teams if they want 4 extra episodes. Non-elimination is teh suck.

The best part of last week's show was when Charla was yelling at Mirna to move quicker. Part of me wants them gone now, while another part of me wants them around a little longer so I can yell at the TV more.

I was worried that losing team and 1/2 might have made things less interesting. But at this point I think we are now left with teams with a real chance to win (at least almost all of them).
My wife and I came close to celebratory sex we were so happy that we wouldn't have to deal with the continual whining.

Yeah, I'm glad those two lost. Well, the little person was fine, it was her cousin that I'm glad to see gone. She was delusional about how people treated her. And why, after the first food road block of having to eat 1kg of caviar, did she make the little person eat AGAIN for the Ostrich Egg? Yeah, let's have the person with a stomach the size of a 6 year old do another eating challenge. Great strategy.
GO CHIP AND KIM!

The best part about watching the egg-eating experience for me was watching that petulant idiot Colin, lose two eggs, almost lose his lunch trying to choke down his lunch, and then lose all that time. I'll miss Charla, but Mirna can take a long walk off a short pier.

I'm guessing tonight's episode is going to be "non-elimination". They have 3 such legs left and only 5 teams (with the final episode being the final 3 teams), so you figure the non-elimination's will be every other week from here on out

Yeah, I was laughin pretty hard when Colin almost got arrested. He had no respect for the people and their culture, he was ignorant and an asshole. I think $100 for a 2 hour cab ride is pretty damn decent if you ask me. He needs an attitude check, and Christie defintely needs to find someone new. I have a feeling she's only still with him out of fear for leaving him.
If I were the local police, I would have detained him for public mischeif when he just threw the money. And I've got a funny feeling they didn't take him in the back and beat the crap out of him was because there was an American camera on them. And go Chip and Kim! Chip is an awsome guy, and I really hope that couple wins.
