Who Are Your Top 10 Favorite Stand-Up Comedians?
Inspired by the which comedians do you hate thread, how about the best stand-up comedians you like?
My list: 10) Rodney Dangerfield - He delievers faster than anyone. 9) Jim Carrey - It's so hard to find his stand-up stuff, especially considering he does a lot of physical comedy. 8) Denis Leary - Even though he always seems as if he's on something while doing stand-up, he's still funny. 7) Lewis Black - The best political comedian ever in my opinion. He can make a decent joke a great joke with his delievery. 6) Eddie Murphy - He was great, and showed great promise, but his career was cut short by that silly multi-million dollar movie thing. 5) Ron White - His stand-up sets sound very similar to Wisconsin life. 4) Dave Attell - One of the dirtiest comics out there, but he's still damn funny. 3) George Carlin - So funny for so long, he has to be in the top 3. 2) Richard Pryor - While he is great because he's able to make fun of himself, he's bumped out of the top spot by... 1) Carlos Mencia - The least politically correct comedian out there. I cannot remember a single joke of his I have not laughed at. |
Richard Jeni
Brian Regan and his brother Dennis Larry the Cable Guy Bill Cosby Elayne Boosler more later... |
I cant give a top 10, but some comedians I loved/love:
Bill Hicks Jasper Carrot Dave Allen |
only really like Eddie Murphy
In Delerious he was excellent and Raw he was also fun but not as good |
A brilliant comedian over here in the Uk is Peter Kay. I think you have to be British to get his routine but very funny.
|
In no particular order:
- Dennis Miller - Chris Rock - George Carlin - Eddie Izzard - Eddie Murphy - Robin Williams - Richard Pryor - Louis Black Bah, I'll think of more later I'm sure |
I don't think I'll hear a better comedian than Bill Hicks in my lifetime.
after that: Early Robin Williams Early Eddie Murphy Steve Martin Dave Chappell Bobcat Goldwait Eddie Izzard Early Jake Johanson On the subject of comics, whatever happened to Comic Relief? |
Ron White
Dave Chappelle Dane Cook Stephen Lynch Dave Attell Lewis Black George Carlin Mitch Hedberg Okay not so much a top 10, more like a top 8. I blame public schools. |
Bill Hicks is the best comedian ever

Zach Galafinakis
Kevin James Mike Birbiglia are the only three I like who haven't been listed. I will say, though, that Dave Atell, Mitch Hedburg and Steven Lynch are brilliant live. |
bill hicks..
I no longer enjoy any other comedians. Compared to hicks they just seem so fake. I feel ive learned alot from his routines about the world and the way people communicate, even tho I started listening to him years after he died. |
1. George Carlin
2. Richard Prior 3. Jerry Seinfield 4. Dat Phan 5. Tony Woods 6. Lewis Black 7. Ron White 8. Mitch Hedberg 9. Margaret Cho 10. George Lopez There are a bunch more I like, but these are the ones that come to mind. |
1. Jerry Seinfeld. I should mention Larry David, but since I've never seen his act, I'll stick to Seinfeld. Brilliant performer and comedian.
2. Jeff Foxworthy. 3. Ellen DeGeneres (sp?). |
1. Bill Hicks
2. David Cross 3. Lewis Black |
1-9 Eddie Izzard
10 Richard Jeni |
Not sure I could come up with a top 10 list, but some I've really enjoyed:
Bill Hicks David Cross Richard Pryor George Carlin Eddie Murphy Lewis Black |
Zach Galifinakis
Mitch Hedberg Neil Hamburger Dane Cook I'm really sick of this Larry the Cable Guy. "Get Er Done!" You hear of education, Larry? Well "Get er Done", cause you sound like a damned idiot. |
1. Dave Chapelle
1. George Carlin 1. Robing Williams 1. John Stewart 1. Chris Rock Edit: 1. Conan O'brian I knew I forgot someone, thanks to Gorilla for reminding me they're all good, I can't list them in numerical order so all are # 1 :D |
Jim Galla-something.. I can never remember his name, but I just saw him on Conan.. I think hes effin hilarious and I like how he says little comments that someone might be saying in the audience. He looks like Elaine's boyfriend (from the Seinfeld TV show.)
oh yeah, this is a top 10 list.. uhh.. shit, im not even gonna try |
Jim Gaffigan I think.

Lenny bruce.
bill hicks Dennis leary Steven Wright Richard Pryor Dennis Miller when he's erudite The jerky boys (yea, I know, not A comedian, but still damn funny) and.... Andrew "Dice" Clay. Why? More because he behaved like men wanted to behave, rathen than the fact that he behaved the way he did. |
Zach Galafinakis (funny as all hell)
Dave Chapelle (man he is great) and Lewis Black. They have all been said already but eh. |
no one has mentioned dimitri martin. he has a cool style, but perhaps you haven't heard of him yet. he recently was picked up as a writer for conan.
also david cross is pretty funny...liked his DVD (except for the running skit about talking to his boss) |
I can't believe no one's said LOUIS C.K.
He wrote a horrible movie (pootie tang) but his stand-up is great. Mitch Hedberg and David Cross are also outstanding. and that larry the cable guy sucks. |
Lewis Black
Conan O'Brien Bill Hicks Seinfeld Jay Leno Chris Rock Dave Atell John Stewart Dave Chapelle This one guy who I saw on comedy central, but don't know the name of |
Chris Rock
Dave Chapelle Lewis Black I like comedians who like to break taboos or take you to unexpected places, but do it intelligently or to make a point -- not just to shock. Good standup is almost a form of philosophy. |
I like Stephen Lynch :)

1 SAM KINISON (RIP BROTHER SAMMY) so funny and was a genius
2 Eddie Murphy was tops for a long time till he lost his humor 3 Steve Martin all I can say is WILD AND CRAZY GUY and for those who disagree "WELLLLL EXCUUUUUUUUUUSE MEEEEEEEE" 4 The Smothers Brothers Hilarious when uncensored 5 Bob Newhart a straight man doing comedy by himself? sure enough he did it and did it great 6 George Carlin is just fantastic and knows what works 7 Robin Williams pushed the boundaries and was all over the place 8 Redd Foxx set so many standards for the black stand up, Pryor took over where Redd left off but Redd did it so much better 9 Howie Mandel quickest comic on his feet, could ask anyone their name or job and before they finished had a joke 10 (tie) From Brit Tv Dave Allen shed light on the political and religious and made them extremely funny 10 (tie) "------------ " Benny Hill just silly 10 (tie) Bill Cosby took a bad childhood and made it all sound funny and made me wish I had friends like Fat Albert and Weird Harold |
