Dodgeball

Just got back from the movie. I had quite a lot of laughs! Some slow parts, but all in all it was worth seeing for sure. The entire theater had a good vibe, everyone seemed to be loving it!

Gets my recomendation ;)

I'll probably go tonight, as the reviews look pretty good.

Destrox 06-19-2004 04:42 AM

As I posted in the "Rate the last movie you saw" thread:

Dodgeball: A Underdog Story

4.5 / 5

That movie had me laughing so many times I lost track, WELL worth the 6.50$ opening price!

pocon1 06-19-2004 07:37 AM

Of course, the comparisons will be made to old school, but this is pretty good. Vince Vaughn does a pretty good job of playing the average guy straight man. Plus, there are a few cameos.

Ace_O_Spades 06-19-2004 07:59 AM

I want to see this very badly... Almost enough to take a kick in the balls with the 13.50 movie price... ouch!

Vilkata 06-19-2004 01:24 PM

Spoiler: Fuckin Chuck Norris!

Whoa man! 13.50? I hope you have a girlfriend and you're buying her ticket for her, or else... man... I don't think I could go to the movies if it cost that much for one ticket.

Stompy 06-19-2004 10:51 PM

How does it compare to Zoolander?

Better, even, not as good?

I LOVE Zoolander. Definitely one of my most favorite comedies ever! The movie looks like it has those certain moments.. for example, the previews show Stiller blurting out "Joanie loves CHACHI!".. I can totally see this movie having those Zoolander-type moments.

Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell need to team up again. They're a damn funny combination.

What the hell? Thats literally OVER two times the cost here...

Sheesh, you Sir are getting ripped off.

We are talking USD correct?

Ace_O_Spades 06-20-2004 08:19 AM

CAD

and there are cheaper theaters, but they are the old style with crappy uncomfortable seats and no leg room

These are Famous Players theaters, and I only go and see movies that I know 100% will have the best experience on the big screen.... Or else I'll download them or wait for the DVD.

goddfather40 06-20-2004 05:57 PM

This movie is really funny, and was better than I expected. Ben Stiller is awesome in it, but I was a little dissappointed in Vince Vaughn's performance, I don't know about you guys. It seems as if the potential for his character was not quite tapped.

skier 06-20-2004 10:59 PM

yep CAD 13.50 for the high quality cineplex odeon seats that recline and are cushy and lots of room.

Speed_Gibson 06-20-2004 11:38 PM

the first and last time I was in New York city for Fleet Week '98 (great time to be in Dress Whites :D ) the ticket price to see Godzilla was somthing like $10-12+. Damn painful when you are used to $4-5 at the most with the military discount in Florida, and even more painful after the film started. :hmm:
I also paid a similar amount at an older and more intimate theatre for Gwyneth Paltrow's Sliding Doors which was worth every penny and one of the best overall I have seen in awhile.

As another Zoolander fan, I'd say this is a funny movie but doesn't hold quite up to Zoolander. Vince Vaughn doesn't quite make up for the lack of Owen Wilson/Will Ferrell. I'd still suggest going to see it though.

bigbad 06-21-2004 02:54 AM

Our Famous Players have capped their prices at $10.50 now, but no more cheap Tuesdays :\ I remember the good ol' days, of 30cents a litre gas and $5.00 movies.

miggity99 06-21-2004 06:53 AM

I thought Dodgeball was hillarious. The cameos are priceless and Ben Stiller is awesome.

He's a great "Jokey Joke-maker"

j0hnb 06-21-2004 09:59 AM

I loved it, laughed my ass off the whole time.

Doog1983 06-21-2004 10:34 AM

it was hillarious...I found it to be a dash of Zoolander and another of Old School jokes...good recipe.

crfpilot 06-22-2004 03:22 PM

Just got back from seeing it. I really liked it. Jason Bateman cracked me up.

KellyC 06-22-2004 03:34 PM

I just watched this movie last night, liked it very much. I didn't like the ending though....

Jeff 06-22-2004 06:52 PM

I thought it was pretty funny. A good, light-hearted comedy. Can't wait for Anchorman.

heyal256 06-22-2004 09:51 PM

I just got back from seeing this movie tonight and I loved it,
couldn't stop laughing.

Speed Gibson, currently the price for a movie ticket here in NYC is $10.25 (manhattan) (of course if you need to buy tickets online, don't forget the $1.50/ticket surcharge).

Your theaters aren't doing the $9.95 tickets? The Famous Players in Ottawa are ... sucky part is that even the matinees are $9.95.

Regarding the movie:
Saw it yesterday, still laughing today. I'll be getting this one on DVD for sure. I recommend it to anyone who needs a good laugh.

holtmate 06-26-2004 05:10 PM

I can't wait for the DVD...I loved the movie, and the cameos just made it better...

I got a lot of laughs out of Dodgeball. There were a lot of high-quality bad-taste jokes there, of the type that only good writers can do, and a lot of satire. The black-and-white instructional film on dodge ball had me on the floor. I had to sit through films like that back in school, and I guess a lot of other people did, too!

So, can anybody tell me how Dodgeball compares to Anchorman? The preview didn't impress me, but there are a lot of guys over on some other thread raving about it.
