Every time I hear about him I remember the Family Guy episode where Brian is driving through the country when he runs a guy over.

"Oh my God, are you Stephen King?"

"No, I'm Dean Koontz."

"Oh."

The he gets back in the car and runs him over again. Definately amusing

Yeah, I picked up The Face a few weeks ago, looking for filler while amazon was taking their sweet time.

What a surprise! I'd read Koontz in the past, and it wasn't the most enjoyable experience I've had. He seems to have become a better writer over the years though. I'd recommend it pretty solidly.

After I read The Face, I picked up The Taking. Not as good, but did manage to give me the willies due to some excellent description and pacing.

The Face is about a cop who has left the force to become the chief of security for one of the biggest celebrities in the world. Strange packages start arriving, which he takes to be threats, but are not tangible enough to bring to the police. The story unfolds from there. I can't say a whole lot else about it without begining to give away bits and pieces that would be detrimental for you to know. I'd probably classify it as "Supernatural Mystery", although it's fairly light on the supernatural, and there's no real mystery involved. Just the way it reads, I guess.

I enjoyed The Face, as well.
I liked Fric. He's a scrappy little fella. (although, I kept reading his name as Eric, which was annoying)

It's scary to think someone could actually do what the guy in the yellow raincoat did on his neighborhood jaunts.

I'm rereading Twilight Eyes at the moment. (another good one)

Very good book!
Spoiler: I did however think the ending was weak, especially considering the sheer amounts of character building that went into it.

Edited because I'm a moron without innate proof reading skills

Just a quick note since the subject is Koontz.

I found Odd Thomas to be excellent.

If you like Koontz, I highly suggest it.

The newest one The Taking is pretty good, I liked the "moral of the story" ending, I can see it becoming a movie, but I'd be a little too creeped out to see it as a movie.

Servants of Twilight, Lightening, Whispers, House of Thunder - so much of his early stuff is great entertainment.

True, but the later stuff has him as a somewhat better writer. Odd Thomas and By the Light of the Moon were good stuff. I'll look for The Face, though the name is somewhat reminiscent of The Mask.

The only sequel Koontz did to my knowledge is Seize the Night which followed Fear Nothing. A good pair of books, and I like to see more of the characters.

Yeah, I've read them. I enjoyed them, too.
Got to take a ride on the Mystery Train.

Thanks for the info, Kadath.

Koontz definetly is a good easy read. I believe I have finished 10-12 of them. The Face was a very cool book. Dont try to compare to King, different kinds of writing. Koontz is easier to read quickly. I am currently readind "Odd Thomas". Half way through and it has got my interest.

I've read the synopsis of that. It sounds intriguing.

Damn, I hate waiting for paperbacks. *sigh*

I loved Odd Thomas and I loved both Seize the Night and Fear Nothing, I keep hoping he will make a third novel in that series. I read alot of his other books years ago but kinda got away from his writing untill recently... I have liked the last few books he has written.
