Riddick

i liked it, must say its been a long time since ive seen a unique creative sci-fantasy on screen that wasnt based on a already popular book.

i really liked the medieval/meets dark goth /early industrial look.

its not perfect but entertaining none the less.

my pet peeves primarily concerns riddick not being bad ass enough, i swear he had more than one chance to kill a helpless child but didnt.

I haven't seen it yet but Pitch Black was definitely a different type of sci/fi suspence horror flick. The anti-hero type of character was refreshing. From the traiers of Riddick, I suspect I will like it as much as you.

There was a line in the trailer that I think was stolen directly from The Matrix. The line had something to do with accepting his destiny. Personally I think it looks like a rental, but thats just me.

If you liked the first Pitch Black, then you'll like Chronicles of Riddick. I liked it, decent amount of humor and both Riddick and Jack (Kyra now) have some badass moments. My only problem with the movie were the fight scenes. Like many American action movies, camera jumps around or zooms in so you have a hard time telling what's going on.

the fight scene with the guards after meeting the elemental really suffered form this. seemed like a bad rip of the opening fightsequence in Equilibrium

Yeah. I gotta say the same thing. I liked the movie but there were definitely too many jump cuts during fight scenes. It totally took away from how cool the scenes could've been.

And I thought the same thing about a rip off from Equilibrium...which I own and like.

Equilibrium was a certain change of pace from the usual action/sci-fi movies. I honestly believe if they had the funding that Spielburg/other big directors get nowadays, it could have been a monstrosity of a hit. With 100 or so million more dollars, that movie could have been one of the best movies ever made.

Either way, it was a good movie, but some of the scenes seemed kind of "poor" or "cheap" (needed more money to make it more convincing) but I liked the style.

i liked it.... not the best... but it was entertaining enough...

but ya it seemed to me that the fight scenes seemed to try to make up for a lack of cool coreography by shaking the camera and flashing lights a lot...

but other then the lame fight stuff it was pretty good...

I was told that this movie was actually kind of good. Lots of action, if you are into that, and the story was alright. Just an entertaining action flick.

One thing that I particularily liked about equilibrium was the martial arts with guns... I have never seen anything like that before, and although the theory behind it is retarded (You stay in areas that are less likely to have a bullet pass through it) - it is an excellent idea.

This movie rocked! I go to movies for entertainment value, and I was thoroughly entertained. There were a couple of parts that made me kinda scratch my head, but they were nill compared to the overall entertainment that this movie provided.

Great fun grand sci fi flick. Had a few issues with it, but even they didn't keep it from being entertaining.

I did feel like the cut and chop style of the fight scenes were done solely to keep the PG-13 rating (a rating I don't understand why it was given OR desireable for this movie to have).

I thought pitch black was ok. When I heard they were making another, I thought "why the hell would they do that." Went to see Riddick with low expectations. and I must say, I haven't been so wowed by a movie since Star Wars. I thought the fight scenes were incredible, and I hope for the next one, they just drop Riddick in a big room, and people come out of nowhere and try to kill him and he kills them instead and another stronger wave of people come try to kill him and he kills them all and says something cheesy and funny and kills and kills and kills for 90 minutes.

I enjoyed the movie. The beginning was slow, and I really wasn't jiving with the lack of imagination with the names. "Necromongers" "Crematoria" ..yeah...

However, once you get past the setup and everything got rolling, the movie was really enjoyable. Despite the horrible acting, and the splotchy logic and continuity flaws, they NAILED the most important thing for a movie like this to have... the final blow.

The angle that they went with this one was a great idea. To me, Pitch Black was just an introduction to the character Riddick and how good he was at miraculously escaping the impossible. I've read a few comics that had a sci-fi story like this but never expected to see it on the big screen. And they definitely nailed the 'final blow'. Hope they make some more chronicles.

I thought this movie rocked. Yeah it was cheesy, the names were kinda hoaky, but that was so fricken cool. It was fun. That's all it was meant to be.

I was really impressed by the depth of the world. They seemed to have actually done alot of work on the world the movie took place in. And unlike most movies everyone in this movie seemed to have their own agenda, regardless of what everyone else was doing. Most movies have the characters just reacting to what's going on with little planning. But in this movie everyone has their own plans and wants. It was cool.

Sad when people put thier blinders up to the point where they cant see a movie for entertainment for such silly silly weak reasons.

I loved the movie my self, it had everything a good sci-fi action movie could require.

Dark Fury is pretty damn cool. Although there's animation style change that jarred me at about 5/6 through the movie. I mean, it's a dramatic change. It goes from something that looks like Aeon Flux to something that strangely resembles the Maxx in about .45 seconds and remains that way for a few minutes at least. It's weird.

Very entertaining sci-fi movie with a great ending! A number of prior posts have criticized the names of the planets and races, and I agree, they were totally hoaky. But that made it even better. I can just imagine the writers sitting around a table thinking up all those names and cracking up.

I wonder, do the women wear underwear in the underverse?

it was hokey, and there was a minute at the begining that I thought that I had just been robbed of my 7 bucks- ( the part where you first see the other furion- and I'm thinking " what the hell is that thing on his head?" ) then it got rolling and became a helluva success despite itself- it used the power of its own cheese to make a great, fun movie- and while it was original, it freely borrows from a whole lot of other great movies- felt like Conan in Space or something, kind of in the same way that the fith element reminded me of a lot of others while being original.......

The movie was alright. It was a litlle too much over the top for me. One question: How did he get those eyes? During the movie the girl said that he lied about paying someone to do that.

You would have to watch the first movie to get this better.

That movie is called "Pitch Black", he says in it that while he was on some planet he paid a doctor a large sum of cash to "Buffer" his eyes so they pickup light better in low light situations.

He has cat eyes for the most part.

The movie was pleasant to look at but there are a few things irked me. I will just mention the stereotypical action movie climax where
Spoiler: despite the antagonist scouring the entire universe commiting genocide to avoid the prophecy of the one ending his life, he forbade his army from killing Riddick, just when they had the chance to, so that he can fight him one-on-one and, of course, fullfill the prophecy he was trying to avoid this whole time.

Why has this become an action movie cliche? Can you think of a worse ending to an action story?

I liked Pitch Black when I saw it on Scifi a few weeks ago. It was pretty cool. I really want to see The Cronicals of Riddick, but just haven't had a chance to yet... but then it's not often I get a chance to see movies in the theature, more of a chance to rent them.

The way it actually goes is in the first movie, Pitch Black, he talks about going to a No-Daylight Slam and paying a doctor 20 menthol Kool's for a "surgical shine job." In The Chronicles of Riddick, the girl who was listening to him was mad at him for lying, which is elaborated upon in Escape From Butcher Bay (video-game prequel) where, I dunno what this is all about, Spoiler: some female voice keeps popping in like a deity and ends up giving him the night vision deal, supposedly to help him escape from prison and reach his destiny at the head of the Necromonger army.

Just thought I'd chime this in, it's the chronological order of the TCoR series:
1. "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay" (however this is a story told in a flashback AFTER "Dark Fury")
2. "The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black"
3. "The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury"
4. "The Chronicles of Riddick"

I've loved each iteration of TCoR but the actual TCoR film had me feeling a little odd in the end, I was completely entertained throughout and thought the film was a blast and well-conceived (though not well-developed) but as the credits began to roll I wasn't sure if I liked the film or not.

Ah well, let's wait for the DVD which is supposed to be the 3 hour Philosophical and Mythical version of the filmed Twohy intended to be seen (fucking studio hacks).

Thanks Journeyman, THAT was the answer I was looking for. I have Pitch Black on DVD, so I was kinda confused when I saw Riddick. I guess alot of movies are having video game ties.
