New batmobile!?!? eww

eww

What were they thinking?

If it aint broke...

shred_head 06-09-2004 07:29 PM

That new Batmobile is ass ugly. Everytime they make a new Batman film it just becomes much worse than the one before it. They really should've just stopped after Batman 2.

quoted for absolute truth

choskins 06-09-2004 07:35 PM

That thing is terrible. I guess they couldn't figure out how to make the Batmobile into a pimped out SUV with 24s, so they just made it a damn tank!

matteo101 06-09-2004 07:40 PM

YEE GADS MON. That is awful. *shakes head in disgust*

t3m3st 06-09-2004 08:29 PM

quick to judge. clearly the batman hasnt gotten his cool car yet. Keep in mind this is an origins story, not Batman 5. And the other batmobiles were Joel "batnipples" Schumacher's fault. Just defending the franchise

Pellaz 06-09-2004 08:34 PM

You guys are too harsh. How else do you expect Bats to navigate those sand dunes in downtown gotham?

just because you dont have a cool car, it doesn't mean you can drive THAT

hell, i'd rather see batman cruising around in a fuckin Kia Rio

Da Munk 06-09-2004 09:52 PM

I like it, reminds me of the Frank Miller Bat-Tank. It looks like a modified military vehicle, which is fine for a Batman early in his career.

dirtyrascal7 06-09-2004 10:29 PM

it looks like it was made with scrap metal. and i think they forgot to put a cockpit in it...

kalashnikov 06-09-2004 11:37 PM

Remember Megarace? That's what that abomination reminds me of. But Bruce Wayne seems much to high class and sophisticated for that thing.

I never thought i would say a good word about schumacher but at least his batmobile was somewhat bat-like.

Damn, these Batman movies just get worse and worse. God bless Tim Burton for doing it the first time and doing it right.

Yup, what Da Munk said. :)
It reminds me a lot of the Batmobile they use in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.

I got these larger pics and a little of the back story off of AICN.

Hey Harry,
I scored an invite to the Licensing 2004 trade show at the Javits Center in NYC yesterday and the event kicked off big…with the first public unveiling of the new Batmobile. I have enclosed some photos and the following was the write-up that accompanied the unveiling:
http://www.aintitcool.com/image/bcar1.jpg

“Introduced in the upcoming film as “The Tumbler,” this Batmobile is like none of its predecessors. This Batmobile has an origin story of its own.
http://www.aintitcool.com/image/bcar2.jpg

Designed as a military vehicle, with the ability to jump (typically 4 to 6 feet high) and equipped to drive off immediately after landing, the Tumbler was designed by the Applied Sciences division of Wayne Enterprises. It was intended to aid in building temporary bridging devices to carry troops and supplies over water and vast open space.

Due to its expense, Wayne Enterprises never mass-produced this vehicle, but upon Bruce Wayne’s discovery of the prototype, he knew immediately how he could maximize its stealth design and extraordinary applications to be a powerful weapon in Batman’s quest for justice.”
http://www.aintitcool.com/image/bcar3.jpg
It's beginning to grow on me, a lot, since I now know it's not THE Batmobile. ;)

BigGov 06-10-2004 12:50 AM

Sounds very James Bond-ish.

I miss the old school (Adam West old school) batmobile. That was the coolest thing ever when I was 5.

Kostya 06-10-2004 02:49 AM

Yes...

Batman uses a car, manufactured by Wayne Corp...

But NOBODY could put those two together...

Moreover, what the fuck? Batman can't drive that hunk of shit. It looks like some fucking promotion vehicle for Pepsi Max or some shit. Honestly if I was hardened criminal, I'd be too busy pissing myself laughing at his jumping car than shitting myself in fear. The whole point of Batman is he's a fucking badarse motherfucker who drives a smooth ride and dispenses with vigilante justice in the most violent and terrifying way possible to the scum of Gotham city. Such a thing would be impossible in this dune buggy.

tropple 06-10-2004 03:21 AM

Yes, this proves that any good idea can be fucked away beyond redemption.

No one ever complained about Batman's special pupose vehicles, but the were always sleek and futuristic looking. They were classy and functional.

Hollywood sucks.

BigGov 06-10-2004 03:25 AM

Isn't this batman supposed to be more around the beginning of batman? [EDIT: According to IMDB the title of the movie is Batman Begins, so I'm right for once.]

It makes more sense that the first batmobile would be an ugly piece of shit with very few features compared to the newer models.

cameroncrazy822 06-10-2004 03:46 AM

It's actually a joint venture between the Batman franchise designers and the Aliens franchise. Sigourney Weaver is in the next Batman installment riding shotgun.

Charlatan 06-10-2004 05:05 AM

Looks like Hummer just kicked some money at the Batman Franchise...

choskins 06-10-2004 05:43 AM

I don't understand the argument. You guys keep saying, "I know it's ugly, but it's the first Batmobile." So what makes it ok for the first Batmobile to be a hulking POS? I would assume the first Batmobile would be a modified street car, something you buy off the lot, since he is just getting started. For example, a highly modified Porsche, Viper or Corvette. Why would he spend an assload of money and waste all that time to build a one-off load of crap? And if he was going to spend that money and waste that time, why not do it right? What changed between Batmobile #1, the hunk of crap, and Batmobile #2, the sleek ride? Did he get a girlfriend or something?

Nancy 06-10-2004 07:00 AM

it's not even black? :(

Don't forget Winona Ryder's manning the gun turret.

Why is the Batmobile green? I guess this early in his career he's still waiting for his trust fund to kick in so he take his car down to Maaco.

Maybe it's like the Hicks/Newt version of the Batmobile, in the first five minutes of the movie it's get blown up and Bruce will have to ride around on Charles Dutton for the rest of the movie.

Anyway, the cast for this flick is completely awesome, I hope they don't ruin it with bad designs.

Kadath 06-10-2004 08:24 AM

I'd like to point out that, as evidenced by the taxis in GTA:VC a jumping car can be fucking awesome.

tropple 06-10-2004 09:06 AM

They can make the car jump, but WTF? Why call it batman? I don't seem to remember Batman having any freaking jumping car, or any other vehicle that looked like that.

Sure, this is only a movie, but how does that give them the right to change it so that it becomes fanciful POS where the only resemblance to the original story/character is the name and maybe a costume?

I think it's just the lighting that's making it look green. It looks pretty black in the pics from the official site:

Randerolf 06-10-2004 09:33 AM

An ugly, jumping car?

Does the horn play the Mexican Hat Dance too? ;)

the_marq 06-10-2004 09:52 AM

Oh settle down and stop acting your age.

This movie is aimed at 12-15 yr olds, whom I am sure will feel the new batmobile is "sick" or "ill" or whatever.

I laughed out loud at that :)

BigGov 06-10-2004 11:05 AM

And what a shock, that's what everyone is saying on IMDB.

Annoying 12 year olds.

Moobie 06-10-2004 11:45 AM

Dude that's the grip -er I mean tight, yeah... that's it.

Wait, Batman's audience is 12-15 year olds? That can't be. I refuse to believe that I'm that big of a dork and that everyone I know is also a dork. Oh my god I'm surrounded by dorks.... *sob*

Oh yeah FaderMonkey's right, it's just the lighting in those pictures that make it look green. For a second there I thought they'd turned the batmobile into a ricer.

Vizzini 06-10-2004 12:00 PM

Well put one vote for liking it here.

I think it looks great. A HELL of alot better than it's predecessors. It finally looks more like the armored car it always was.
Very mean looking.

i personally think everyone needs to read frank millers versions of batman year one, and the dark knight returns... amazing stories, that may lay down some info

and as the batman comic, every new artist that draws him, takes a different approach on him, as do film directors...am i saying that the past few movies have been great..hell no, but if you give a franchise over to different people, they're gonna see things from different points of view....

take a look at the crow for example...

Thank you Moobie for the addition to the signature :)

Ace_O_Spades 06-10-2004 12:54 PM

I second the "Just because its BEFORE the first batman doesnt mean it needs to be a piece of crap"

Moobie 06-10-2004 02:01 PM

Okay, any director has the right to take his own direction with a particular movie, I'll give them that. Naturally someone will put more of their heart into something if they can make part of it their own. And in effect you should get a better more worthwhile product in the end, because the director has personal stake in it.

But when you're making a movie based on something else (be it a comic, novel, history, or chicken curry) you have a responsibility to the source you're drawing from to accurately present the material.

And you should always remember your audience. And I think the fan base for Batman goes way beyond 15.

*edit* Jimmy4 No prob man. I'm glad somebody thought it was funny. */edit*

bltzkriegmcanon 06-10-2004 02:33 PM

That thing is an atrocity laid upon movie-going mankind.

World's King 06-10-2004 02:35 PM

What the fuck?

Batman Off-Road?

yodapaul 06-10-2004 03:43 PM

I kinda like it, but I am interested in seeing how they use it in the movie.

If I was Batman I would get a one of a kind Military protype over something off the self, Function OVER form. I mean Batman is just starting off, maybe he gets a new car at the end of the movie.

mattevil 06-10-2004 06:13 PM

everything else in the movie has shaped up nicely so i'm going to let this side and hope this is in their only briefly.

How do you know? They haven't finished shooting yet. Hell, we have only seen three shots of Batman so far.???
