Hero
Has anyone else seen the trailer for this film? It looks amazing.
http://www.herothemovie.com/trailer/m300k.html Does anyone know when it comes out though? I couldn't find a release date anywhere on the movie website.

It's been around for a while now - and it is pretty good. Don't expect a cinema (albeit limited) release till nearer the end of the year but it is available from all your dodgier DVD/VCD online stores. It's a beautiful movie - colours are especially stunning but the plot/acting has provoked mixed responses.

They played the trailer all three times I went to see KB: V2. I was thoroughly unimpressed to tell you the truth. I like the colors and contrast and stuff, but nothing really jumps out at me. It reminds me too much of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which I regard as the most over-rated movie of all time

I don't know. After a viewing of the "Version 2" trailer, I was a bit more impressed, but still overall unimpressed. I don't know what they are trying to accomplish with the "suspended in air sword lunges" but it looks kind of stupid All I see when I watch the trailers is Casshern. Which looks much better!
Some of the parts looked really cool though. The sword fighting stuff looks awesome.

very good movie. i've seen it at least 5 times and it never really gets old. if you're not really into the flying suspension of reality kinda fighting, this might not be your cup. but there are some nice fights and the colors are great. acting is top notch and the story works well.

It is a very good movie, if you like the "asian" style. It is definitely not like the average american movie.

i've seen the asian version of this film (w/ english subs). The camera shots in Hero are absolutely stunning! I was very impressed with this movie and will buy it on DVD when it's released here.

Dragon Ball Z. This is what Dragon Ball Z would look like if it were translated into live action film. At least some of the fighting aspect. I don't mean the details of it, but there is a general sense of "Dragon Ball Zness" about it.

They exchange "energy" blasts just like DBZ, except in Volcano High, the energy is transparent and gives a ripple in the air effect. This part happens at the end of the movie though..but it's really cool. shit..sorry for thread jack....

Yeah, that movie is MEGA dragonballz, far worse than Hero. The DBZ aspect that I think Hero has the most of is the "massive wave of energy/arrows coming towards character, character does something badass to block/dodge the attack" and "character moves so damn fast that he/she/it destroys, knocks down, or kills anything within a 30-foot radius, but it doesn't look like that character has moved at all" kinda stuff.

I'm really excited about this movie. Was a little disappointed to hear that the trailers are a bit misleading in it's content, and that they spoil the movie a bit, but it's still the big movie to see this month for me.

Hero opens tomorrow in the US. Very similar to the DVD that has been out for a while. Slightly shorter and some changed subtitles. I think what movies like this and matrix revolutions shows us is that as far as special effects and computer graphic arts are concerned, we are ready for a live-action DragonBall movie. I would be really worried about thme ruining the best action cartoon of all time. Remember Super Mario Bros.? Ouch. What about Rocky and Bullwinkel live action movie? Jesus Christ, that was pitiful. Actually, I don't remember any cartoon-to-live-movie being even decent. Dragonball would be the first. Oops, this is supposed to be about Hero. Hero = really good movie.

Well, it's got 95% on Rottentomatoes, with an average rating of 86% so somebody must like it! I'll wait for Ebert's review to see if it's worth spending my $7 on. If it's good, I'll consider it. If not, bittorrent here we come.

i too saw this movie on dvd before today's release. for those on the fence, this movie is definitely better than crouching tiger, though still in the same kind of vein, so if you don't like the more exaggerated, fantasy style fighting, you probably won't dig the fight scenes. but there's plenty else to enjoy about this movie. i'll probably see it in the theatres soon

I think it's a good movie, but i really don't think it deserves all the insane hype it gets. [edit] Jet Li is a fucking hack who can't act his way out of a paper bag, any other martial artist could have played his stoic Keanu Reeves impression with the same level of talent... he deserves no credit for how good the movie is. Ugh... Jet Li.... it should be a curse word... like meecrab

I saw Hero tonight and I must say, it rocked. Definitely like Crouching Tiger, but that's not a bad thing at all. Jet Li was an assassin on a mission - he didn't need to act any way other than the way he did - a cold hearted, revenge-laden assasin. Sort of.
Good movie. I give it 3.5 outta 4 stars. |

Saw it lastnight and liked it. I think i would have enjoyed it a bit more if it weren't for the retards that laughed everytime someone flew across the scene- Go see Die Hard 9 if you want something more 'realistic'. :roll eyes:
I'd say that people should go see it simply for the artistic value. The story is good but a bit confusing, and the fighting is definitely hyper-realistic. The art direction, however, is amazing. -T

Hahaha. Yea, half of the theater I was in was crying. Seamless melding of action and romance saw to that. As for the spoiler, remember what the narration in the end said. I won't write it out, but that's why they changed it.
