for Matrix fans...DVD news

http://davisdvd.com/news/rumors.html

Quote:
from DavisDVD.com:

As many of you are already aware, Australian retailer EzyDVD recently posted alleged specs for a massive nine-disc Matrix Trilogy box set. Like other DVD sites already have, we here can confirm that a collection with all-new bonus materials is definitely in the works. But are the EzyDVD specs the real deal? With caution and guarded optimism, I hope they are:

- The Matrix (3 discs)
- The Matrix Reloaded (3 discs) 3-hour Extended Cut
- The Matrix Revolutions (2 discs)
- All-New High Definition Transfers
- Commentary Tracks
- All-New Documentaries
- And More!

The company responsible for putting together this boxed set will be Eric Matthies Productions, the same folks who have created nearly all Matrix-related material to date. Their website used to have this blurb (now removed) relating to The Matrix Trilogy box set: We are currently in development on over one dozen hours of new material for this upcoming collector's edition release. This expanded edition of discs will include detailed documentaries on the philosophy and science behind the Matrix scripts as well as a look at the history of action cinema. EMP is also creating a densely layered documentary package estimated at nine total hours using footage that has not been seen in the other Matrix releases. (with thanks to everyone wrote in)
Here's a link to the EzyDVD site:

Great news!! I can't wait for this. I'll be buying that as soon as it comes out. The Matrix Trilogy is my favorite series ever...any more on the series is always a plus to me.

That's great news, but we'll have to see if there's any credence behind the rumor. Then I'll get excited. Hell, I'd probably buy it and let my parents have the other discs.

Nice. I have actually been holding off on buying any of the movies (I feel like the only man in America who doesn't own The Matrix on DVD) waiting for something like this.

Cool! Looks like holding off and not buying the individuals as they came out (as tempting as they were) is going to pay off!

Sounds pretty damn sweet!

Looks like a moderator for a message board on Spawn.com slipped some info about Todd McFarlane doing an interview for the DVD box set:

http://board.spawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22405

Quote:
Today, in this very office… actually at this very moment, Todd is sitting down to do an interview for the upcoming DVD boxed set of The Matrix Trilogy (scheduled to be released sometime this winter). While I don’t have all of the details regarding Todd’s involvement, I do know that the segment in which he will be appearing revolves around the history of action films. For more specifics you’ll either have to wait until I have more info to share with you, or you’ll have to pick up the boxed set, but until then, here’s a photograph of the set, which is decorated with a wide assortment of our Matrix action figures…

Ha, those figures are awesome. I've been trying to get my hands on the Mifune's Last Stand figure for the last month after mine partially broke (my fault, not a bad product), and haven't been able to find them anywhere except mega-markup-Ebay©.

Update-a-licious! From IGN:
Quote:
It's finally official. Warner Home Video will release The Ultimate Matrix Collection on December 7 (no infamy jokes, it wouldn't be right) in a 10-disc special edition, plus a collector's giftset with even more extras.

The standard collection comes with 10 discs. The Matrix will sport a whole new transfer and new audio mix, plus the same cuts and versions of The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions that we saw on the recent two-disc releases.

The rest of the set is The Animatrix and six-discs of bonus material, none of which is redundant with the extras on Reloaded and Revolutions. Suggested price is $79.92.

The collector's giftset will run you $129.92 and includes all of the DVDs on the standard release plus a Neo minibust and an 80-page booklet with never-before-seen artwork and storyboards. Don't know about you, but the packaging is downright ugly. See below.

There will be two audio commentaries for each film, but the rumors of cast commentary, sadly, aren't the case. One features philosophers Ken Wilber and Cornel West, who analyze the meanings behind the films, while the second is from film critics Todd McCarthy (Variety), John Powers (L.A. Weekly) and David Thomson (film author), who hated all three films and spend the whole time tearing the films apart.

Hmm interesting, that's fucking expensive... ah well, that Ultra Box Set will be mine, wouldn't mind having that bust, was planning to buy one anyway.

We really do need commentaries from the Wachowski's though... I guess this way they can make more money off books trying to explain away the Matrix Trilogy.

why the HELL would I want to listen to commentaries tearing the films apart? That's a TRULY messed up decision there.

That's why I'd never buy a trilogy as separate dvd's. They always release a box set. Same thing with LOTR I bet. Only problem is that they cost way too much for my budget.

That comment is an inch away from trolling. What the hell do you THINK is going to be in a Matrix Trilogy Box Set? It's pretty clear you're simply looking to start (yet another) argument over the second two films. Don't.

Do does this mean we don't get that rumoured extra hour of footage from Reloaded? I'm trying to figure out whether I should sell my Matrix, Matrix Revisited, Animatrix, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions DVD's..
