Movies better the second time around

What movies have you watched that are better the second time. Mine would have to be Fight Club and Butterfly Effect...

What are yours?

WarWagon 05-31-2004 07:29 AM

Fight club definitely, Ronin was another. The Game with Michael Douglas was good for #2 but tapered off from there. Memento and Stigmata, too.

Maveric 05-31-2004 08:06 AM

donnie darko...

i've even heard they are going to rerelease the movie to theaters with additional footage.

rockzilla 05-31-2004 09:54 AM

Pulp Fiction. The first time through I was kinda confused by the way the timeline jumped around. It was much clearer to me the second time around.

Lasereth 05-31-2004 11:02 AM

The Matrix Reloaded is definitely a winner here. I thought it was ok the first time, but after I watched it a second time, I was obsessed. I saw it four times in the theaters and once in IMAX after that. :)

The Royal Tenenbaums. A great movie the first time round, but then you can peel away at all the different layers in the characters and their histories and relationships on your next ten-or-so views and it really enriches the experience. A really underrated film.

Same for me, I got SO much more out of it the second time.

matteo101 05-31-2004 01:54 PM

Another one for Donnie Darko. The first time i was like "what the fuck" second time i loved it.

CinnamonGirl 05-31-2004 02:06 PM

All these serious movies...I'm going to go with Monty Python & the Holy Grail :D The first time I saw it, I was laughing so hard I missed a lot.

Of course, the fifth or sixth time is even better, since by then you can go along line for line (which seems to annoy other people...damn...)

Fremen 05-31-2004 03:12 PM

Super Troopers was better the second time around.

bltzkriegmcanon 05-31-2004 03:12 PM

All the LOTR movies are better the second time around for me, especially if that second time is an extended cut where I can take piss breaks. Also, all the Matrix movies were much more enjoyable for me the second time around. You just pick shit up that you never noticed before.

MexicanOnABike 05-31-2004 06:16 PM

lock, stock & 2 smoking barrels. kill bill.

Ace_O_Spades 05-31-2004 06:25 PM

Sixth Sense... it was an eye opener

and ones already mentioned:

fight club, matrix: reloaded

mattevil 05-31-2004 07:04 PM

The original Dawn of the Dead
I hated it upon my first viewing. I Liked it alot more the second time.

KellyC 05-31-2004 09:33 PM

Dogma

...it gets better everytime. :D

i sooooo agree

such a dope movie

Lasereth 06-01-2004 02:17 AM

I'll add Kill Bill and the Royal Tenenbaums, both already mentioned. The first Kill Bill really has this effect. Same with the Royal Tenenbaums. The Royal Tenenbaums is probably in my top 10 favorite movie list.

Up in smoke.

The Big Lebowski

I hated it the first time I saw it, but found it funny the second (and third, fourth...) viewings. I guess it's because I knew the story, so I could concentrate on all the verbal banter going on.

thespian86 06-01-2004 05:58 PM

agreed with the royal tenenbaums... It seems as if the same term gets used over and over again "Underated"... Do you think this is becasue people see it and are like "WTF" and everyones like "Crappy film"... Maybe thats why people should give a second chance for alot of films.

Another one for me is Mr. Hollonds Opus... The film is amazing, it's got great character growth. But the first time you watch it you kind of get tired of watching the guy whine about his life but the second time you really see the story.

dgriff3466 06-03-2004 04:57 AM

The Usual Suspects

cameroncrazy822 06-03-2004 10:28 AM

I've got to say I got Momento the first tme but the second time I caught all the subtle nuances missed while concentrating on the plot the first time.

CSflim 06-03-2004 12:14 PM

The Big Lebowski, as mentioned above.
I enjoyed it first time, second time round I loved it. Third time.....best movie ever made!

Mulholland Drive. There is just so much of that movie that you won't catch first time round. Second and third viewing mandatory!

asudevil83 06-03-2004 01:27 PM

half baked......nuff said

Fight Club

Ditto. I hated it the first time, but loved it the second time. Too bad the third one becomes worse after each viewing. That one just stinks.

Memento is especially awesome when watched forwards, then backwards, then forwards again. One of the best films ever made. EVER.

soccerchamp76 06-04-2004 06:01 PM

Donnie Darko
Memento
My personal favorite movie, Gladiator.
Old School
Office Space

Totally agree there. When I first saw it, I was a little let down from the reviews my friends had given it. But then a week later I felt the need to watch it again, and it was hilarious. Love it now.

Yes, Super Troopers, followed closely by "Lone Start State of Mind"

Bizarre undertones in both make them pleasurable everytime.

ShaniFaye 06-07-2004 03:54 AM

I would have to say The Ninth Gate was definately better the 2nd time and also Murder by Numbers

Tusko 06-07-2004 02:41 PM

spinal tap

fnaqzna 06-07-2004 08:04 PM

Natural Born Killers

crow_daw 06-07-2004 08:40 PM

28 Days Later comes to mind first and foremost for me.

cameroncrazy822 06-11-2004 05:51 PM

It has to be "Thrill Bill Vol. 1" 'cause it couldn't have been any worse the first time around. If I want cartoon fight scenes I'll watch Nickelodeon.

LordEden 06-15-2004 07:00 AM

I know everyone's said it, but Fight Club man, fucking Fight Club. Hands down great!

Stare At The Sun 06-16-2004 12:46 PM
