Its a joke...that he is still alive I mean...right?
|
Can Elvis truly be far behind?
|
Apparently he said long before his "death" that he wanted to fake his death and return on this date (maybe his birthday, or anniversary of his death).
At any rate, it's more than likely a hoax. If not, what the fuck is wrong with you man? What kind of a monster would let his whole family believe he had died just for a prank? Andy Kauffman, if you are alive I hope you choke and die you prick. |

That's creepy.
And if it was true it would be all over the news. This is the first I've heard of it. |

If it's true....amazing! But I'm still sceptical. |

------------------- Don't beleive this is real - - He makes claims to being on Matt Drudge's site, yet the link is for the DrudgeRetort - not exacty where I'd go for truth in the news. If this was real news, DrudgeReport would have it -- and it's not there. |
Saw it... kinda creepy... been following the 20th anniversary thing for a while, but I still don't think this is real.
|
Yeah, something this big should be on tv. This sounds like your run of the mill tabloid story.
|
I call pure bullshit. The article is written poorly and the information seems too good to be true. 100% fake :)
|
I bet Bob Zmuda has a hand in this
|
That has got to be the least exciting news report ever! Who cares? I'm sure there are some fans of his still around, but his "blogspot" is just shit.
Oh well, I'm too young to recognize the "comic genius" of it all I suppose.... |
If this is true, <i>which it isn't</i>, and he came back, <i>which he won't</i>, it would be more sad and pathetic than shocking and humerous.
|
"Here I come to save the day..."
It's a prank. If not, kudos, you dumbass motherfarker for putting your loved ones through hell. |
I remember reading a week or so ago that Bob Zmuda was having a big ado to where he hoped Andy would return. (I'll see if I can find it and post it)
What is worse "disappearing" for 20 years and letting the world think you are dead or someone imitating you and coming back to capitalize on the name? His family may have known he was alive for years and to keep up the "gag" they are playing along. I've never been to NYC but from what I understand it is very, very expensive and he couldn't work anyplace for fear of being "outed" so where did he get his money? I mean, think about it, wouldn't his family have truly looked into his finances when he died and any irregularities (say $100,000 a year going to someone they never heard of would be an irregularity.) He may have been in detox and/or in a "sanctuary" recovering from a mental condition. The guy was totally nuts let's not forget so going away and regaining self may have been what he needed to do. If he is alive, welcome back Andy. If it's a fake then someone truly is sick. |
Here it is dated 5/10/04
link: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/ae/2560758 story: If Andy Kaufman's faking death, he should come to this party Associated Press NEW YORK -- Andy Kaufman died of lung cancer on May 16, 1984, but according to legend, the eccentric comedian said if he were faking, he'd resurface 20 years later to the day. Kaufman So, just in case, a party is being planned by Bob Zmuda, Kaufman's best friend and partner, at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on May 16. "Over 100 personal ads will be taken out across the country and abroad, reminding him of his words. Will he show?" Zmuda asked on the Web site for Comic Relief, a series of shows that raise money for health care for the homeless. Zmuda founded Comic Relief after Kaufman's death. VIP tickets to the Andy Kaufman -- Dead or Alive? tribute offer "select seating and celebrity reception (hopefully with Andy)." The tribute also promises a performance by Las Vegas lounge lizard Tony Clifton, one of Kaufman's characters. Kaufman was best known as the lovable foreign-car mechanic Latka Gravas on the '70s TV sitcom Taxi. ==================================================== Hmmmm wonder if "Man on the Moon" is going to be re-released with "new" Andy commentaries. Ya know, I am a fan of Andy's and until recently I never heard of this "20 yr. coming back rumor" until very recently. |
Andys ALIVE!
Andys back!
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...234/726q1.html New York City, NY (PRWEB) May 19, 2004 -- Twenty years ago, on May 16, 1984, most of the world believed that we had lost a comedic legend forever. This has turned out to be what will inevitably be known as the greatest comic prank ever conceived. Andy Kaufman, by all accounts, is alive and well at age 55 and is now living in New York City on the upper west side. To his loyal supporters and fans, Andy says "sorry about faking my death," in a recent interview with ABC News at his apartment. In order to reach legendary comic status and seal his place in the history of performance art, he said it was "necessary to go away for twenty years." Andy Kaufman's official site has been launched at: http://andykaufmanreturns.blogspot.com/ Even though he has technically returned, Andy says that he plans to maintain his low key lifestyle that he has led for the past twenty years. He has resumed contact with friends and family. Fearing the possibility of this scenario and the potential for another hoax, Kaufman's family has contracted with independent auditors Ernst & Young to determine if this in fact the real Andy Kaufman. He has subjected himself to medical examination and submitted DNA, hair, blood and fingerprint samples to the auditors. Ernst & Young and the Kaufman family report that with a 99% probability, this is indeed the real Andy Kaufman. His mother says, "It's good to have Andy back." In 1999, a new crop of Kaufman fans were born after Jim Carrey starred in the hit film Man on the Moon. "Andy's bizarre mix of comedy and performance art will inspire fans and comedians alike for generations, especially after this stunt," says Jim Carrey. Andy says he will make only occasional public appearances, sometimes in disguise so that you won?t know if it?s really him or someone else. Kaufman was famous for pulling this stunt with the Tony Clifton character, sometimes played by good friend Bob Zmuda. Andy says fans should tune into his website for ongoing updates to his adventures in life. As always, Andy's stage has been the world, testing the boundaries of our beliefs, our sources of information, and our perception of reality. "It's good to be back," Andy writes on his website. # # # Andy Kaufman |
Looks like Bob Zmuda is bored. Good for him, keeping the Kaufman legend alive.
|
Who is "TONY CLIFTON". I hope he really is one on Andy's friend's rather than just somebody capitalizing on his death.

Right, I'll need more then just internet articles before I start believing this.
|
|
I was waiting for snopes to pick it up.
|
Some people are really easily convinced of the silliest things. Oh did you know tupac is alive too?
|
so silly. i can't believe people would actually believe that.

i thought it could be true for about two seconds, then reason kicked in... damn you reason, you ruin all the fun
|
I believed it, only because I would have liked it to be. I liked Andy Kaufman, and it would have been hilarious- obviously not to his family- but to me.
|
you know, i'd kind of like for this to be true, that he is back
but its not http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/hoaxes/kaufman.asp |

he's dead, no way if he faked it that it could be kept secret for this long. |
Yahoo has officially lost all credibility as a news source.
Why the fuck would you post a false story such as this? Idiots. (Yahoo) |
I'm still waiting for Frank Zappa to come back.

As long as his career stays dead, I'm O.K. with it.
Other than the first couple of years of <i>Taxi</i>, he never did anything worthy of having a career. |
