I just saw this movie yesterday and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was entertaining, had good action and the special effects weren't too bad either, I really liked it. Your thoughts?

I didn't like it. too many cliches/references to other movies.
Spoiler: such as: the ending "beautiful sun, clouds" scene(the matrix), when Gabriel is a werewolf and goes *snikt* with his claws(xmen)... & the whole Vampires VS. Werewolve theme is Underworld, with Kate Beckinsale, who's also in THIS movie.

I liked it. I mean, It was enjoyable to watch once, and it's the type of film that could be truely awful.

The acting was wonderfully over the top. It absolutely revelled in it's cliches. Really cheesy dialogue. Doesn't take itself too seriously. Great for a bit of a laugh.

It's not going for originality. Its not going for a coherrant plot-line. Its a hollywood monster film. Enjoy it for what it is.

Roger Ebert gave it 3 stars out of four! I'll probably see it when I have more money.

Going to see it tomorrow, yes that's right, on a Monday! I'm looking forward to it, the CG looked a little... well... bad from the trailers but it'll be great to see a no hold barred Monster film.

van helsing was a fun movie. the music was cool too. any movie that has that many old school movie monsters in it gets a thumbs up from me.

What do ya mean? Give examples!

He rated the first Matrix movie 3 stars out of 4. That's not bad. That's two thumbs up. He rated Reloaded 3.5 stars out of 4, and Revolutions 3 stars. He simply has a solid viewpoint of movies. I agree with 95% of the reviews I read from him. It simply depends on if you go to the movies to be entertained, or if you go to the movies to see good movies.

I loved this movie, odd copy cat themes and ideas from other movies... who cares? Bad jokes, or silly antics... a 10 second scene doesnt kill your entire movie experience, well shouldnt.

Most reviews of this movie keep on saying the same repetitive bull, and I dont recall hearing anyone saying any of this when I left the theater. All my friends loved it, I loved it, but I guess there will always be haters for every movie.

Just wish they would come up with better reasons for the hate.

I enjoyed it. It was a bit frenetic, and frantic for that matter, trying to keep up with everything that was going on in the story, and there was a lot of story to keep up with.

It was...decent. Not worth seeing in the theatre, a lot of cheesy dialogue, bunch of action cliches, etc. Not to mention the worst part of it: Seeing the king of Gondore reduced to a whiny pussy.

First of all, David Wenham wasn' t the king of Gondor, he was the Captain of The Guard, and the Prince of Ithilien. Secondly, I don't think he was "reduced to a whiny pussy", I think he may have seemed that way when placed beside the incredibly badass Van Helsing and Anna Valerious. I think his response to all the shit going on was only proper and fitting for a friar who's been sealed up in a church lab his entire life and has never been outside of the church or "in the field" as it were. Plus, I don't think that David Wenham playing the role of Carl is such a terrible thing, it shows that he can play a range of characters, instead of being typecast in the same role.

Trust me, Hrothgar, it's not as bad as it looks in the trailers. Most of the CG used in that movie is pretty close in quality to say, The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions.

no what you look at is this.. David Wenham is seen from another movie.. you are moved by that movie by seeing the actor playing another part.. you should look at it by saying "hey he can play different roles"

the movie was great.. new twist on old themes.. being a huge rpg'er role playing games like D&D and such.. it was a fun movie to see..

any idoit can make a sword.. perfect line there btw.. something a elven cleric of mine would mutter in a dwarven stronghold

OK Van Helsing kicked ass. It was highly entertaining, and thats why you go to a movie like Van Helsing, to be entertained, not for the damn dialogue. It knew exactly what kind of movie it was, and it never took itself to seriously, and Van Helsing never pretends to be anything that its not. It is one good ass movie if you just want to be entertained, bottom line.

Precisely what I was going to say.

If you enjoy werewolves or vampires, go see this movie. Cheesy monster movie of the new age. Very fun and fast paced. Not to mention very loud.

You're damn right, if you went in to see Van Helsing expecting it to be serious: WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?! It's great romp through the classic monster tales, I'm kinda glad they didn't delve into the mythology of the Van Helsing character too deeply.

Definately Sequel Money.

It was a lot like League. It was entertaining, albeit cheesy and predictible, but entertaining. A movie that you can see once and be done with for a couple of years.

Not bad, not great, just okay to good.

I wasn't expecting much going into this one, but I was suprised by how much I liked it. For some reason I got a big kick out of the ending fight scene. Plus, the hotness that is Kate Beckinsale is always fun to watch.

I'd give it 3 out of 4, just beause SOME of the cgi was a little cartoony... especially Hyde/Jeckle at the beginning.

I just gotta say, Stephen Sommers is a smart sonofabitch for making this movie, it's a good reprieve from all of the movies that take themselves way too seriously recently. It's just a fun, hollywood monster ride that should be taken as such, enjoy it the way it is.

i'd say it was alright, but the plot doesnt make sense!! it exists only to string together the action sequences, some of which were pretty ridiculous. writing was lame, the actor who played dracula was hamtastic, and the ending was about as cheesy as anything could be. still, im not demanding my money back, it is what it is...

I thought the Dracula guy was pretty good. Looked a lot like Lugosi (that nose!) and his Bela-voice wasn't overly cartoony, unlike some actors I could mention. There's some things about the movie I still have issues with (like the werewolf/Dracula thing, and the leap of logic that makes Frankenstein's monster so necessary) but still a decent movie.

Van Helsing is a much better movie than LOEG (imo). The Dr. Jekyll effect alone made it a better movie! Plus, Kate Beckinsale looked amazing. Some of the stunts didn't look all that great, but overall, I thought it was very entertaining.

Overall the effects were excellent and Im glad to see Kate's ass on as big of screen as possible.
