Hero

They had a trailer for this movie at the beginning of Kill Bill Vol. 2. I personally think it looks great, but thats just me. Looks at least as good as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Heres a link for the trailerhttp://www.herothemovie.com/trailer/index.htm

i'm certainly gonna go see it. i'm not a massive jet li fan, but i think this'll be a fun little kung-fu romp in the woods.

I've seen this film already and I was dissappointed at the trailer int the theatere because in my opinion it builds the film up to be something that it isn't. It really is a good film, one of Jet Li's better films since Lethal Weapon 4, but the trailer just doesn't give a real sense of what it is about imo.

i've seen the movie several times already and i'd rank it above crouching tiger, hidden dragon. the colors are just eyeopening. action is the same kinda style, except done better.

i just hope that the american release does well.

It was already in the theateres here in germany and I think its a great movie. I would rate it better than crouchting tiger, hidden dragon.
but of course you need to like the "chinese movie style"

glad to hear that it's had a wide release since it's one of the best movies imo. I too find it to be way better than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon because of the story, the incredible fight scenes and the overall use of colour/effects in the symbolism.

I've had the DVD for over 2 years now. I thought the movie was incredibly boring and prententious. I can't believe they're justing bringing it over it here, not to mention edited. Editing it isn't going to make it any less boring or prententious. Just like Shaolin Soccer, Hero isn't going translate well for American audiances.

Ok..I saw this like a year ago. It's not that great, a bunch of flashbacks makes the story really confusing.

All I can say is Jet Li had lost his touch since "Romeo Must Die".....dammit...

The trailer looked cheesy as shit. It really, seriously looked like DragonBallZ shit. It was god-awful. Then I saw it was from the same people who did Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. And then it was worse.

definitely a good movie. though it lacked the emotional aspects of crouching tiger, hidden dragon, it was very well made, and i personally liked the surreal aura about it.

I liked it a lot. I like foreign films better sometimes. It seems like all Hollywood films are always predictable. The hero always beats the bad guys and gets the girl. I like movies that go against that formula.

While it was quite good, I also thought it was a bit pretentious and it looked like a 80’s rock video in places.

It was very well filmed, but not exactly the same as crouching tiger hidden dragon. It's more of an artsy film with less of the action/martial arts. Another movie that just came out that is very similar to courching tiger hidden dragon is House of Flying Daggers. Out right now in the indie theaters around here.

It's the only drama I've seen in a theater where the audience was laughing through half of it. IMO it was terrible and cheesy. I tihnk we've had enough of these matrix wire combat movies.

Man on Fire------->Spoiler: Its funny you say that, because here lately ive been irritated that the good guy allways dies. I think the movie that got me thinking about that was Man on Fire, I was so ready for Denzel to kick all those guys asses at the very end, and return to that little girl. I was very dissapointed that they killed him. It just seems to me that movies are a fantasy and they dont have to kill the good guy to make it interesting, in fact I dont want to see the good guy die. This is why I watch movies, to be distracted from the real world, not to be rooting for a particular character to only have him/her die at the end of the movie.

just my .02

bigd999, please give spoiler warnings when talking about a movie's ending and the fate of main characters, most especially when its not in a thread about that movie. I had no idea I'd see a massive Man on Fire spoiler in a thread about Hero.

You can either just type out SPOILERS! around it or put [ spoiler ] and [ /spoiler ] (without the spaces) around that part and it will white it out unless you want to see it.

Well, since Matrix movies coopted the wire combat style from these movies, I'd say your view is extremely Hollywood-centric. Sorry if Keanu ruined the art form for you, but these types of films (CTHD, Hero, etc.) pioneered that aesthetic in fighting movies.

i didn't like it very much. the fighting scenes seemed fake especially when they'd do the slow motion things and the flying moves. Also the story line was pretty lame in my opinion

From the cinematography point of view, this is one of the best ever done. If you like Hero, you will probably like The House of Flying Daggers.

For hardcore wu-shu/kung fu buffs (like myself), I'd stick with Jet Li's earlier films. Such as the Once Upon A Time In China series, The Legend, etc.

Aside Jet Li, Donnie Yen, almost none of the other stars in the films had any real martial arts training but they move quite well in my opinion.
