well i read the Memento script, someone else can read the Se7en script and report back

boom29 05-04-2004 08:32 PM

I searched the Se7en script, but I didn't see anything close to the quote.

okay Brandon, help us out here... how 'bout narrowing it down by listing the movies you've recently seen on DVD???

monkeydriven 05-05-2004 07:45 AM

I'm trying. I put two calls into my buddy at the video store back home, but still haven't heard back from him. Believe me, I've been brainstorming as much (if not more) that you guys.

Not 21 grams, haven't seen it.

brandon11983 05-09-2004 10:57 PM

SOMEONE GO WATCH SOLARIS (the new one) AND TELL ME/US IF THAT'S IT!!!! It just hit me a few minutes ago. All the parameters I have in my head are hit by this movie.

Just searched the script for Solaris, I didn't find it in there. I guess our quest for the movie responsible for this thread continues.

Jadedfox 05-10-2004 02:32 AM

This is a nightmare :D

nash 05-12-2004 07:41 AM

Could it be a TV show instead?

"...then you wake up one morning and the President is making decisions without your permission, that son of a bitch, how dare he..."
and what's messed up is that I know that Gene Hackman said it, but I can't place the movie to save my life and it's driving me insane. And my quote may be a LITTLE off, but not much at all.

Just to get this one outta the way, its Jon Voight from Mission: Impossible. He says this in the scene where he meets back up with Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), and they are discussing who could have turned traitor and killed off the entire IMF team. Its the scene where Ethan realizes that it was actually Phelps (Voight) who was the killer.

As for the quote to end all quote threads, i don't think it is from Momento. I just searched the script for anything even remotely close, and it didn't pop up. I've seen that movie many times, and it seems too isoteric(sp?) to come from the Leonard character. The majority of his voice overs in the film are of him talking on the phone to someone about Sammy Jenkis, and about ways he deals with his memory affliction.

Nikilidstrom 05-12-2004 04:12 PM

If it helps, Solaris is on HBO2 right now. It started at 8PM Eastern.

Lasereth 05-12-2004 08:03 PM

I searched the Solaris script as well. Nothing!

Just wanted to confirm that he is right. It is Mission Impossible.

Actually...I think you might be right. It might even be the scene where "Snow" is talking to George Clooney about killing his other self but he is in fact the clone. It might even have been the scene where George first meets him but I'm pretty sure it was his character that said it.

MahlerIsGod 05-14-2004 10:11 AM

I just watched that scene on DVD (where Cloney confronts Snow) and that isn't it. I will try and watch the entire movie today and report back.

cherriesue 05-14-2004 11:59 AM

sounds like phone booth to me

Booray 05-14-2004 12:17 PM

This is irritating the hell out of me. I posted the quote on another message board I frequent, hoping someone would have an idea.

Just posted it a minute ago and one person guessed 'Adaptation'. I didn't think that had been suggested yet in this thread. Another one that popped in my head was the movie 'Cube' , kind of an independent scifi movie from Canada. I remembered they were trying to guess what the numbers indicated when they were going from room to room to escape. But IMDB and Google don't seem to point to either of these as answers. Just figured I'd throw those out there to see if you might've recently rented either of them.

Lord Humungus 05-14-2004 12:24 PM

Real Genius

boom29 05-14-2004 10:09 PM

Just searched the Adaptation script, not there. Also searched the Cube script, and althought there's lots of numbers, it is not it either.

Not Real Genius either.

Grondar 05-14-2004 10:17 PM

Are you sure it isn't Identity?

I thought they made a pretty big deal about the "room" numbers in that movie, and I think I've heard the quote before also. But not sure about the movie...

Also, the number being discussed could potentially relate to a large number of deaths.. Maybe a mass killing ala "28 Days Later" or something. Just a thought.

brandon11983 05-14-2004 11:26 PM

28 Days Later: a possibility. But I don't remember much "thinking" in that movie. Just running.

MahlerIsGod 05-14-2004 11:27 PM

I, too, searched the Solaris script (online) and the one I found had the movie beginning with a line or two about being a poet or something like that. The movie (on DVD) doesn't begin with that line. Therefore, I don't know how useful or accurate searching the online scripts will be.

Lord Humungus 05-15-2004 11:03 PM

curses to you for adding another undetermined quote to my torture

Lord Humungus 05-17-2004 02:35 PM

any luck people? you cant just start this and leave it hanging.....its going to drive me mad

heyal256 05-17-2004 05:35 PM

We'd have a better chance guessing correctly if brandon11983 manages posting the list of movies that he's seen. It is still driving all of us nuts knowing that we've heard it somewhere but we aren't sure where.

Lord Humungus 05-17-2004 06:06 PM

amen brutha!

Chingal0 05-19-2004 01:02 AM

It does sound so damn familiar, but I can't figure it out either. Someone win this thread. Please.

Holy crap, thank you so much. That's definitely it. Wow, well I was wrong on Hackman but oh well, don't care. Just glad I got an answer to that. Thanks again.

On my last visit home, I stopped in to see my buddy at the video store. He said he could get me the list of DVD's that I rented, but he'd have to do it one by one, rather than just "wham bam thank you ma'am" hit a few buttons and have it. I didn't want to subject him to that (I rent a shitload of movies). I guess this will end up like the Pyramids and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

FUCK!!

Lord Humungus 05-21-2004 09:32 PM

are you sure it was a movie and not a tv show or something? maybe canivale or something?

Lord Humungus 05-21-2004 09:39 PM

ps...curse you for adding this quote to my life... ive been cursed with "make you strong, like bull" for years with no resolution and now this one....... *whimper*

Pyke 05-21-2004 10:56 PM

It had to be 21 Grams, just watched it and that quote was in there word for word. Maybe you saw a trailer or something?

brandon11983 05-21-2004 11:52 PM

I don't recall ever seeing a trailer. I'll watch the flick this weekend. I can tell you already that that isn't the movie I was referring to. Maybe I don't even know the movie I'm referring to.

Lord Humungus 05-22-2004 09:48 AM

uh...i just watched that movie and the quote was not in there. i rented it like 2 nights ago after this post was formed so the quote was fresh in my head. its not 21 grams.

fhqwhgads 05-22-2004 11:22 AM

Yeah, I suffered through Solaris last night and it's definitely not in there either. I want my 2 hours back...

the_marq 06-20-2004 09:00 PM

I found it. I was just watching BMW Films.

It's a line said by Maury Chakin, in the episode "The Hostage."

Download it here (if you are in Canada) http://intl.bmwfilms.com/clap.asp?te...a&film=hostage

Or just got to BMWFilms.com

A buddy of mine just burned them all to DVD for me and as I was watching the first one I remembered this old thread. I'm really suprised no one else got this one.

Chingal0 06-20-2004 11:17 PM

Ahhha! I knew that I had heard it from somewhere as well, but to be something as obscure as that.. Weird. Thanks!

brandon11983 06-21-2004 06:15 PM

THATS IT!!! I'm downloading the film as we speak, but I don't even have to watch it. Everything adds up. That's it!!! My hat is truly off to the_marq. My sleep cycles are indebted to you, my friend.
