What's with Comic Book movies and love stories?

I just saw Hellboy tonight, what a HUGE letdown.

The previews looked corny enough, but my wife wanted to go, so to my dismay, we went. Man, I literally sat in my chair falling asleep the first 25 mins of the movie. Action was limited, Hellboy wasen't nearly the badass he was supposed to be, and the roof scene was absolutley ridiculious. Although, the chick in that movie is badass. They need to make a movie about her.

Spiderman, the Hulk, all sucked, all love stories. I don't know about you, but when I was 7-8 years old and reading these now classic comic books, I didn't read them to see mushy lovey dovey bullshit. I wanted to read about fighting and action. Punisher looks stupid too. Spiderman 2, well, the first one was enough to make me puke.

I can't was for the second Leauge of Extrodinary Gentlemen, at least that movie kicked ass.

As far as Hellboy goes~
dude!
how can you go wrong with a movie that deals with
Nazis
the occult
secret societies and demons!
not to mention top rate computer graphics!

hmmm. I think you should watch that movie again.

By the way...I think they have the lovey dovey love stories so that the
chicks will go see them.

P.S. Hellboy was quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen (close to Dumb and Dumber-er).

The beginning was remotely interesting but after that it just went downhill as the character Hellboy, as Kurant pointed out, wasn;t very badass at all. I almost fell asleep several times.

QuasiMojo 04-09-2004 09:32 PM

Well....to be honest I DID fall asleep once. only to wake up and then promptly begin falling back asleep again!

How badass was Hellboy supposed to be anyway!?

/ummm...just wondering

You need to get in touch with your feminine side, it'll really open up your eyes.

Also, you obviously don't like to watch comic-book movies, best way to remedy that? Don't watch them.

No, your right, I don't like BAD comic book movies. If I wanted to watch love stories I'd watch Jennifer Lopez.

The concept of these movies are great, the moves, well, the majority of them blow.

League of Extraodinary Gentlemen..... You're serious?

Whatever, Maybe you didn't notice when reading comics but there has ALWAYS been a love interest. It's a very big part of someone's life. It hard to cut something like that out of a movie that's so much a part of the comic. The love interest makes the, sometimes far fetched characters human.

I'm interested in which other comic book movies you liked.

I saw HB and I thought it was great. I'm sick of people bashing comic book movies too, I agree with the above statement, you don't like them, don't watch them..

I overheard someone last night say they didnt like the movie because there wasnt enough blood and no sex.. and if this is the problem people have with movies, they have bigger problems

moonstrucksoul 04-10-2004 10:05 AM

just about all classic comic book storylines already revolve about romantic interest, it is generally one of the biggest factors in our lives. there was always a Mary-Jane Watson, a Gwen Stacey And a Betsy Ross. most people will do anything for their loved one. it is just an anchor point in the extreme lives of superheroes.

ironically enough, i thought the LXG was the worst comic book movie i'd seen since the Dolph Lundgren, Punisher flick

What about Captain America. LXG was better than Captain America!

I just read a review of the new Fantastic Four script to be directed by Tim Story(barbershop) It was a pretty positive review. That's not to say it won't be re-written 100 more times.
