A Confederacy of Dunces movie
For anyone who's ever read this book, what do you think about the casting of the movie adaptation? Will Ferrell is going to be playing Ignatius J. Reilly. I have trouble imagining Ferrell in this part. It seems like he'd turn the part into more of a caricature than an accurate portrayal, which is sad considering that this is one of the most memorable characters in modern fiction. I think Philip Seymour Hoffman would've been a great pick for this role. He's already got some of the girth (I'm sure he'd need extra padding too), but he's also a great actor and I think he could pull it off perfectly. Any other ideas of people who could do a great job with the part?

Just saw that a lot of people on the IMDB.com boards agree about Hoffman. One person mentioned Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons.

I'm a fan of Ferell, but I don't see him as Ignatius. I heard that John Goodman was crusading for the part for a while, too. He's almost too obvious a choice, but still seems more likely to pull off Ignatius' unctuous personality than man-child Ferell.
I still admit it'd be funny seeing Will rattle his plastic cutlass against theater seats in protest during a Doris Day movie, though.
