Take for instance the part where Rocko kills the two wiseguys and the bartender. In the unedited version, the blood spatter from when Rocko shoots the guy in the face is HUMONGOUS, I mean, all over the fuckin place. Same thing goes for when Rocko shoots the other guy, blood everywhere. Lots of the action scenes in Boondock Saints are the EXACT same way. Loads of blood. However, the blood in the edited version is greatly reduced, I mean, forget splatter, you're lucky if you see any blood at all in the edited version. I'm being serious. The amount of blood is so low, you'd think the brothers missed their shots if the guys didn't fall down. And it's not just the removal of blood, it's the addition of other crap, like flashes of light. As in, when Rocko blows a hole in that guy's head at the restaraunt, there's a flash of light. It's incredibly shitty.

Yeah, dead-on accurate. You can't get the unedited version in the US, you have to order it from out of the country. I'm not sure where to find it to tell you the truth. I have the DVD (cut) and the DivX version (uncut). I saw the movie first on the DivX version I have (it was ripped from a foreign DVD that was uncut) and loved it. Then I bought the DVD at Circuit City and was appaled by how much of the violence was removed. That movie isn't the same without the blood. The blood makes you truly question if what they are doing is right. Without the blood, you just see them as killing stunt guys.

How do you distinguish between the two versions?

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

Oh MY FUCKIN' GOD! I'm sitting back, relaxing on this shitty, rainy, sunday and turn on the boob tube and guess what's playing on the sunday matinee(sp?). Yep, the Boondock Saints.
The movies was gutted so much, it wasn't even funny. I swear they must have edited out at least 30 minutes to the "good" footage which obviously can't be shown on public TV. -Mav |
