Tarantino wants to make Bond film

from ShowBizData.com:

Only days after James Bond star Pierce Brosnan revealed that writers have been stymied in their efforts to come up with a script for a new 007 thriller and suggested that they return to a more character-driven plot like the one in the original Casino Royale novel, Quentin Tarantino has indicated that he would like to remake Casino Royale -- with Brosnan in the starring role. In an interview with the online Sci-Fi Wire, Tarantino indicated that he had had a positive meeting with Brosnan about his proposal but that he had only a "thin chance" that MGM and the Bond film producers would go for it. "I don't see that they have anything to lose at all," Tarantino said. "They've got this gigantic franchise, they can't do anything wrong with it. Pierce Brosnan's only going to do one more movie for them, if that, so ... go my way and do it a little differently. I won't do anything that will ruin the series." (The 1967 film version of Casino Royale was a virtual spoof of Bond movies, featuring a number of actors, including David Niven and Peter Sellers, playing Bond in multiple "disguises.")
MGM would be crazy not to go for this. I think it's a great idea!

bltzkriegmcanon 04-07-2004 02:33 PM

Hell yeah! Tarantino should be able to do a Bond "spoof" justice.

Cynthetiq 04-07-2004 02:49 PM

oh... but didn't we have enough of the spoof with Austin Powers, the Bean Agent movie, and then the derivatives like Agent Cody Banks, Spy Kids, et. al?

i'd like to see the treatment but still....so long as Tarantado isn't in it...

Redjake 04-07-2004 03:30 PM

Tarantino doing a Bond film? What's next, Woo doing a Metroid flick? oh wait....

moonstrucksoul 04-07-2004 03:59 PM

i can honestly say that if they never made a new Bond movie, it wouldn't upset me a bit.

wordssmith22 04-07-2004 06:05 PM

what ever happened to the bond spinoff with halle berry's character? did that just die after she did gothika?

BuddyHawks 04-07-2004 07:09 PM

It just wouldnt be the same if a Bond film didn't come out every two years.
I think something different would be good for the series.

Destrox 04-07-2004 07:32 PM

Guess i am one of a few who have been disapointed with any bond movie in the last 10 years.

Why I agree that many were 'bad' I'm not sure if that disapoints me or not. I think I've come to expect a certain level of 'cornyness'.

Goldeneye was good.

All the rest were craptacular. After Ian died, everything started going downhill.

There hasn't been a good Bond film since Connery stopped being Bond.

The whole francise is exhausted. It needs to be changed or killed. Unfortunately it will likely limp every onwards.

CSflim 04-08-2004 01:04 PM

Man, I love Tarrantino, but I really don't like the sound of this. I have no idea why, but a Tarrantino Bond movie, just sounds wrong to me....

Mephisto2 04-08-2004 01:44 PM

Sounds like fun to me.

When I heard they were making a remake of the Classic Ealing comedy "The Ladykillers" I was aghast.

But then I heard the Coen brothers were doing it.

A good director can really make a remake (if you know what I mean)

Lighten up everyone.

:)

this sounds good.

i'd like to see a Tarantino take on the Bond genre, because i think he'd be able to show just what a misogynistic, callous bastard Bond is deep down.
i think Christian Bale would be good here as well.

Arc101 04-08-2004 01:51 PM

It has got to be worth a go. I would love to see what he does with it. I thought the last Bond film was very good, I really enjoyed it.

Redjake 04-08-2004 01:53 PM

Goldeneye was the best Bond movie in a LONG time. It's definitely in my top three favorite Bond films, if not my #1 favorite....

k1ng 04-08-2004 04:26 PM

Yeah Goldeneye was the last watchable one. But Id be excited if this Tarantino thing happens.

Mr.Deflok 04-08-2004 07:44 PM

Die Another Day made me sad.

They told her to fuck off 'cause they want to focus on the next Bond film, thank god.

Nikilidstrom 04-08-2004 07:53 PM

Weren't the last 3 Bond movies spoofs? Seriously though, the Bond movies have degenerated into your typical action movie piles of shit. Brosnan's Bond is far to emotional. Connery and Moore were the only actors who played Bond as he was supposed to be: Mysoginistic, unphased by anything, and a quick wit. If Brosnan had just played him like his early TV character Remington Steele, he would have done just fine.

Anywho, at least in my eyes, if Taranino does a spoof of the series, it will just put the final nail in the franchise coffin. If he tries to bring it back to the Connery days, then he may just single handedly revive the series.

Mephisto2 04-08-2004 09:04 PM

Bond movies have ALWAYS been spoofs.

No, really.

Mr Mephisto

wrongfullyaccuzd 04-09-2004 06:39 PM

That's a great idea, he would put a cool spin on it I'm sure.

3zos 04-12-2004 07:35 AM

Err, I don't think the article mentions Tarentino doing a spoof, only that he'd do a movie based on Casino Royale, or something similiarly character driven. When the 60's version was made it was intended to be a spoof but the original book wasn't. I dunno, Tarentino is known for off-beat films, wonder how he'd do with a bond film.. regardless of the turnout, i have little doubt it'd be far and away the best bond since goldeneye (the last three being discardable refuse action/commercials)

CSflim 04-12-2004 02:59 PM

I said above that I couldn't put my finger on why this sits so badly with me. I think I know now:

Would this movie be a Tarrantino movie, or a Bond movie?

Don't get me wrong, I haven't already made up my mind, that this film will be shit. I will certainly go see it, and hopefully I will be wrong!

Asuka{eve} 04-12-2004 07:24 PM

Im all for it.

World's King 04-13-2004 01:11 PM

A Bond film with an anal rape scene?

I don't know about that.

hey, it worked for Irreversible.
ya never know.

Sorry, I love Tarantino and all, but he's way too trashy to do a classy Bond film. It's black and white
