The Omen – I was about 10 years old and at a friends house. His parents were out, and because we were hard we watched it. It was in the middle of winter and very dark and I have never ran home so fast since. My bedroom light stayed on for weeks afterwards. I’m in my 30’s now and I still refuse to watch it.

1. The excorsist
2. The Ring The excorsist is the scariest I've ever seen. I've only seen it 2 times and I don't think I'll ever see it again. It freeks me out too much

See, I could not get into the ring. The first scene was good. After that, it was kinda so-so.....
Two similar flicks in plot, The Haunting and The House on Haunted Hill had amazing ES sound that really made the movie.

I've seen alot of these movies and they had no effect on me. The only movie I've ever seen that had me sleep deprived was... you're all gonna laugh at me but... it was Edward Scissorhands. I know, its pathetic. My brother, babysitter and me watched it when it came out on video. I was scared shitless. Just the thought of Micheal Jackson with knives, its not right!

Anyone ever catch those little scenes in The Exorcist when in total darkness that scary-ass face just pops up and then goes away? You really have to be paying attention. But when you see it for the first time you just want to cry and be held.

re: scariest movie/show ever...
it's so subjective as to when you see it. if you see movies like the Omen and Exorcist when you're only 10-11 years of age... they'll scare the crap out of you! if you see a scary show when you're 17 or older, it just doesn't have the same effect. fwiw: I thought Kolchak: The Night Stalker was about the scariest thing ever. but then again, I think I was still in about 3rd grade at the time. |

Well I just saw Gothika, and it was fucked up big time, but not the scariest ever.
I also was scared to death by Jeepers Creepers(I know, I know). Most movies don't really scare me, but one on the list I have to agree with is Event Horizon, that movie fucked with my head.

Usually I have no problems watching scary movies, but for some reason "The Ring" really freaked me out. I can't say why, but I had nightmares for weeks after seeing it.

They did eventually call some sort of ghost agency though, correct? This is about when I turned it off and fell asleep, so I'm a little hazy on certain details. |

1. the Exorcist
2. Parts of the Sixth Sense 3. The Ring 4. Signs (parts of) 5. The first Nightmare on Elm Street. Then again, I was really stoned when I saw it.

Can't get scared by the exorcist, saw it with a friend who had not completely watched the entire movie after starting it 3 or 4 times because he would get absolutely freaked out. So I was spending half my time laughing at him. We also had the lights on, which automatically make movies less scary.
The Ring and Signs got me right to the bone.... I *just had* to leave during the part when the dad was getting into the one house... .

Pet Semetary freaked me out, only because I hate movies with freaky kids in them! Gage freaked me the hell out. It wasn't a scary movie per se, but put a freaky kid with a scalpel in a movie and I'm gonna seriously have some issues with it.
I don't trust small kids with knives. |

The Ring really got me. Loved the idea of watching a video tape and having seven days to live. A girl, with black scraggly hair hanging over her face in a white dress COMING OUT OF THE TV- fuck! I couldn't sleep for a week. Although when I watch it now, it's not that bad at all. Will check out the Japanese version.
Event Horizon also scared the crap out of me. Can't watch it again. Probably same with The Exorcist. Like some of you others, when I was a kid I watched Evil Dead and was absolutely terrified. Now I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Kind of disappointed with horrors today. It seems they rely more on SFX than a good story and edge-of-seat suspense. Still waiting for a good one to come along...
