I'm another vote for Event Horizon. Especially the self mutilation stuff. Ugh that was a creepy creepy movie. I only saw it once when it first came out. I want to see it again just to see if it has the same effect on me now that I am older. At any rate, that is one fucked up movie...

Got to be The Shining. Kubrick's film style and the erie silence in some parts are just really creepy....and those freaky fucking little girls!!

Exorcist is the top of my list. I know it's silly by today's standards but it still freaks me out.
Its not silly by todays standards, most horror movies of today cannot even touch it. Crap like House of the dead, Cabin Fever, Jason X and House of a 1000 corpses, embarressment to horror.

IMDB doesn't think so -- 2.6...unless Ace means "Janghwa, Hongryeon" which seems more likely, considering the inclusion of Ringu. Qualify, Ace!

John Carpenters remake of "The Thing" was the one that got me when I first saw it.

First of all, I want to thank everyone on here for giving me lots of titles to put on my list of movies to be seen. Unfortunately I don't have anything really original to add.
The Ring was pretty good, got me pretty creeped out at the end. I've never seen a movie that had me really freaked though. In fact, the last time I can remember anything on a screen that scared me so bad that I couldn't sleep was an X-Files episode when I was like 9...go figure.

I love all zombie movies and all the evil dead movies (second one was freaking hilarious, especially that eyeball flying through the air )

But when the exorcist first came out, I remember going to the drive in with my parents and the whole bed jumping scene...... to this day it still scares the shit out of me, figuratively of course.

The shining and the original Hellraiser have to take honorable mentions.

Rosemary's baby and It's Alive (that monster baby movie. Although not at all scary by todays standards. That whole creepy baby monster hand hanging out of the basinette thing scared me. Again I was a little kid) also creeped my out

Todays movies aren't really scary just creepy, gory, and make you jump. Maybe because most it has been played out or I'm just older and have seen most of the "scary" stuff out there.

Couple of people have mentioned these. Omen and The changeling, not so much now but when first seen when they came out as a kid was frightening, the banging on the side of the bath in the changeling had me hearing it for days when on my own.

I would have to say that I really think that Scream was one of the best horror movies in recent times. The realism is what really moves it up on the creepy scale...

The only movie that still scares me today is Jaws. Fuck all that other nonesense about serial killers or monsters or ghosts. A big fucking shark will do it for me. Every other movie that scared me as a kid doesn't scare me anymore, except this one.

Everyone I talk to that has seen it says that Ju-on blows Ringu out of the water as far as Japanese horror flicks go. I assume there's even scarier movies but Ju-On looks pretty scary.

There's another thread about it here: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=62400

How cool is it that the director of the original is going to be directing the Hollywood version, with Sam Raimi as producer? I saw the trailer for the American version in the theater and it looks pretty intense.

Oh man, I totally forgot about this thread -- thanks for find all that stuff for me, I'll have to check it out.

To my dismay, they re-aired the show TODAY at 2:00. It's 6:00 now . Doesn't look like they plan on having it on again any time soon, either. Oh well.

I was reading through these (I'm new, forgive me) and I had a total flashback with "Dark night of the Scarecrow"! I thought I was the only person who ever saw that! I was young but it freaked me out.
Poltergeist wasn't awfully scary...but when that clown doll pops up from under the bed.... eek! .... lets just say there are NO clowns in my house to this day!

1. Exoricst. (by far the best out there)
2. Damn, nothing even comes close for me. Can they not make a good scary damn movie anymore?

What are your thoughts. Maybe you can point me to something I have yet to see.
