Deadwood
Anyone see it?
I thought it was fucking amazing. The next Sopranos. Am I off on this? What... like ten people died in the first episode. How can you go wrong with that? Not to mention any show with Wild Bill in it has to be fucking good. |
I watched it any enjoyed it. I'll definately be watching it next week, although it might take me a while to get really into it. I still don't know any of the character's names with the exception of Wild Bill.
It certainly was entertaining, though, and next weeks episode looks to be even better. |
I thought it was great.
Calamity Jane was a little too "manly?" I've never read anything about what she was really like, so, maybe the character is dead on. Al was really nasty. I like him a lot. :) |
Fuck yeah! Damn fuckin' good show! (lotta cussin' in it) :D
The way they did the atmosphere in Deadwood makes you believe that you're actually there. Youi can feel the dirt and grittiness, the excitement of looking for gold. The heightened awareness of your surroundings. Whether you are going to make it to the end of another day, or be killed by an enraged prostitute. It was just.....cool. :) Keith Carradine as Hickok was just like I've read. And they finally got Martha Jane Canary right, too. I'm looking forward to more scenes with her in them. It's too bad that Custer is already dead in this series. I would have liked to have seen him pass through Deadwood on his way through to his own tragic destiny. All in all, I'm thrilled with this new series. I couldn't get into The Sopranos because of cable probs. when it first came out, so I couldn't compare them, TOK. :) |
Is it sad that I'm so desensitized that I didn't even notice the swearing? Was there really that much? I noticed a few swears here and there, but not as much as everyone else seems to have noticed.

I was also wondering about Calamity Jane. Her voice sounds so faked, but for all I know, that may be how she was supposed to have sounded like. Regardless, her deep voice and swagger annoy the shit out of me. Overall, a pretty good first episode. I think the art and clothing design gave it a good feel of what it might be like to really have been in that place. Hopefully, now that they've gotten the initial character introductions out of the way, they can start working on a bunch of good plotlines (while expanding on the couple they started in the first episode). |
i really enjoyed it. The bar owner is ruthless!

Wow.. this show is amazing, I can't wait to see what is going to happen next. I love the actor playing Wild Bill, I couldn't think of a better actor to play him.
My only complaint is Jane is the singlemost annoying character I've ever seen. |
I just watched the second episode and I really enjoyed it. I hope it will stay good (of course). It still seems to be a western in that Montana will not back down and pushes for what is right. It will be interesting if Bill does that as well, or if he stays more neutral while in town.

Again.
I'm impressed. |
In the second episode when Spoiler: the actress playing Jane has her confrontation with Swearengen and breaks down crying afterwards, it makes her previous seeming caricature of Calamity that much less annoying.
At least to me it does. Jane wasn't some prissy lady that was afraid to get her shoes muddy. She got down to the nitty-gritty of things. |
Fremen: Agreed. It made her seem more human and not just some drunk fictional Jane.

The seasom Finale absolutely kicked ass. One of the best hours on television this year. They wrapped up just enough and opened up some new stuff for the next season.
McShane is brilliant as Al Swearengen. Olyphant is really great at playing the good guy on the edge with Bulloch. My personal favorite is Brad Dourif who always pops up in shows with awesome characters. As the Doc he shines. This shows has put itself up as one of the best on television. Now we have to wait nearly a year for new episodes. [Charlton Heston Voice] Damn you HBO. Damn you all to hell. [/Charlton Heston Voice] Oh by the way...If you're really interested in the characters. You might like to know that a few of these people were actually...well...real. Check out this website... http://adamsmuseumandhouse.org/characters_people.html |
