The Wheel of Time (spoilers, I'm sure)

Some opinions (Haven't read any WoT since the last book came out, I'm a little rusty):
Logain is in the light. Mazram Taim is probably a darkfriend but not a Forsaken. Elaida isn't black ajah, she's just dumb. If you haven't seen it already, the Wheel of Time FAQ has a ton on all of these topics. |

i'm finishing Winter's Heart for the fourth time via mp3 this time. i started listening to book 1 in feb. over 300 hours
I am a die hard WoT fan. book 10 is pretty great too verin still confuses the hell out of me. everytime i decide she's good she does something evil.. then when i think she's good, she helps Rand. Vandeen has to be black ajah. Elaida isn't. period. she's cruel and stupi, but not evil. of course moraine will be back hm....... discuss or ask something! |

I don't have a question, but a comment.
What the hell is he doing with Mat? Other than the occasional mentioning of him he really doesn't do anything relevant. He's always been my favorite character in the books, and he seems to be going nowhere?!? I was extremely excited to see him with the Seanchan chick, but after a couple of chapters I am left with a feeling of......'eh'. I just wish Mr. Jordan would either shit or get off the pot. Crossroads of Twillight was waytoo long for what it accomplished. I hope the next one turns out a little better. I'd like to be able to recapture that excitement I felt when I read the first 7 or 8.

Robert Jordan can write novels, he fills a world, not just with descriptions of people and places, but fills them with societies, cultures, different lanugues, real people, you can almost see the Aiel running thought the sands of the Three-Fold land... See the waves crashing against the fortress of tear... I can't put the books down, it's addicting.
Elaida is a stupid power crazy bitch, who doesn't know what is going on in front of her face. I never did like reds. I want to know what's going on with Logain, what great thing is he going to do??? Moraine is going to be back with a vengace, tho I would like to see her spirt move to anew body, maybe reborn as an Aiel... just a thought. |

I have been wondering if Moraine is the older woman (I think her name starts with a c) that has been giving Rand (and his women) such a hard time. The other sisters and even the wise women respect her.

I love this series and used to be quite up on every little conspiracy... it has been ages since I read Winter's Heart and I haven't picked up the latest.
I think I might just have to dust them all off and start again from number one... Glad to see that there are few other enthusiasts in here...

I really liked the first couple of books, but the later ones seemed to go on forever and not get anywhere.
I'm hoping that someone comes along and edits the books. So far he has written 10, but I think with some good editing we could have had the same story but in only about 5 or 6 books. |

I only got up to the 5th book, and had to stop reading because of Finals, and I never picked them back up, which makes me sad.. Hmm.. Maybe I should start reading again.. It's going to be a pain to go through the 5 books again though.

Just starting book 6 here. I'm enjoying them for the most part, but I find it funny that all the female characters have the same bitchy personality. Curious to see how Perrin develops...never understood what the "wolf dream" segments with Hopper were all about.

Someone mentioned they thinking Taim is a DF and not a FS...
Personally I think he is Demandred..but perhaps that is a little too obvious. Verin is a chracter I cannot pin down either. IMO... Jordan is definately preparing for somthing big....COT was a "prep work" for the next book. I did not think enough happened in COT to keep a new reader interested, but I kept turning the page hoping for something new...Oh well. Matrim and the Seanchan will be key in the last battle...seeing as how he will be with the Daughter of the Nine Moons. Ok I'm just rambling...

okay. first thing first. Thanks for the replies!
alright, with the books. Cadsuane is NOT moraine in any shape or form. Cad was around a few hundred years before Moraine and in The New Spring, Mor actually meets Cad a few times. I have a feeling book 11 will have severe emphases (spelling?) on Mat and Rand. I think that Logain will either achieve a victory in 11 or after Tarmon Gaiden. I like Logain a lot. he does what he must. he never seems to have fun or even dislike for the things he does.. he just does it. someone mentioned Perrin changing. reread the books.. Perrin changes -drasticly-. and the person (sorry i'm doing it this way but i'd rather not do 3-4 replies) who did not understand the whole Perrin and Hopper thing... Perrin has a link, bond with all wolves. When wolves sleep they are alive in the wolf dream and if something happens to them in the dream it happens in real life. so if one dies, he's gone forever. Perrin links with the wolf dream also and it seems to mostly be where the dream walkers and Forsaken meet also. Hopper has kind of adopted Perrin after he was murdered by a white cloak. (clear as mud) as far as the pace of the series. i think it's perfect. as someone mentioned above, when you read TwoT you feel everything. it's amazing. you see the desk in the corner and if it has an item on it or not and six books later you may see that the item on said desk can give you significant insight on the owner of that desk. everything he touches works together. i've read book 1-6 6 times and listened to their mp3sthis year. i've read 7 about four times, 8 three or so, 9 three times and 10 once. i'm almost done listening to book 9 and then will hit book 10 again. ps: i always brushed Taim aside, believing he isn't Demandred..... but he has to be. He snarls "those fools failed to kill him", commenting on the unsuccesful assassination in book 8. there's a whole lo of stuff i could type, but i'm tiring out. please keep posting!!! if you have any questions, ask me. i'm an authority on TWoT |

Wow thanks for being so nice in shooting me down.
Why couldn't she be meeting herself. My thought was the doorway sent her back in time perhaps even changing her appearance. Her knowledge of the future would have made her much more powerfull in the past. Perhaps she even revealed things to her future self.

Moiraine had better come back, and she'd better be a big player too, not a puppet like Lanfear is now.
Any good sites you guys know of for WoT? The ones I frequent are wotmania.com and dragonmount.com Haven't really found any good ones after those two. |

This is a pretty good WoT website: (http://www.photeus.com:8090/~ewot/books/index.html). It's got an ocassional pronunciation sound clip....which just proves that I've been saying some of those names wrong the whole time!

The trend that I see forming is this... Once Rand unites (conquers) the continent he's on, they will still have to deal with the Seanchan. This is where Mat comes in. All of the portents are there if you read the last three books back to back so that you can pick up on all of the pieces. The affair with the illuminator introduced him to black powder(or some approximation thereof). She already knows what she wants to do with it, and Matrim will use his combined memories to find a way to use fireworks and a 'Bell Maker' to come up with this world's first Artillery.
Considering that One-Power Wielders have been almost completely bred out on their side of the pond, it's really the only way for Rand to defeat an army of Damane. Either which way, it means we will see a lot of Mat in the coming books. I was depressed when I finished the most recent book and realized that nothing had really been accomplished. Moreso when I realized that in fact the last two books have been the same sort of buildup. I became near-suicidal when the thought struck me that I would have to wait another two years for the next book... But then I realized that the more buildup his books have, the more amazing the conclusion will be. And with that realization, all was well with the world again. Stupid anticipation...

Rand is working on a truce with the Seanchan, something he should had done around book 8's period. The Senchan are a pain in the ass, but not evil.... very... misguided. They will eventually, through Mat, bow to Rand. besides, they have prophecies for the Dragon Reborn, too. and also remember the Senchan take real good care of civilians as long as they swear fealty. the crime and what not rates have drasticly lowered since the last evasion began. Quote:
Saldea, Far Malken (sorry for all the mispellings), so on.. all the northern countries will most like bow to Rand in book 11, maybe 12. now he'll have....... tear, illian, gheldean soon if he can root Asnowa out, Camelyn and Caihraihan will join him. he can now go to tomad head and take those lands also. the only real threat are the fucking Shaido. oh, and Taim. Quote:
he killed his major trators while figuring a way to cleanse the source, mat meets his woman and is setting blocks for a massive move, perrin is working on the Prophet (who i've decided isa darkfriend). Faile, though a bitch, is a good person and she'll lead Perrin where he must go after she is recovered. in book ten (i'm half way through it for the second time) it is definatly more of a building block for the next books, i agree. but the Aes Sedia an d BT soap operas are filling out very well. and the Forsaken are being set straight. Mesana is in the WT, i dunno about Semhirage or Grendale. Moridin is most likely ishy.... and asmodean, i dunno yet. |

Blearg. Books 1-6 were awesome and its been downhill from there. I refuse to read book 10 until 11 comes out...I wisely read the reviews which flat out said there's no plot advancement at all, glad I did.
As for when will it end, probably by the time my daughter graduates college (she's 2 months old ) Hopefully there'll be some serious whoopass in book 11 so I can actually pick it up again - siege of the White Tower, Rand vs Seanchan, Cadsuane getting Balefired (well one can hope anyway ) ...SOMETHING other than Rand sitting around and whining, please... |

btw, for those who have read book ten.. all i can say about my egwene theory... whoops.
i don't remember this happening during my first read! ps: how is rand a whiner/ the poor bastard is hated and feared by almost every person alive. he has a dead man in his head trying to take over. he has hundreds of thousands of people he wishes didn't have to be involved. he has two almost mortal wounds they always hurt, not two mention the brands on his palms and his tattoos that hurt 24/7. he has lost anything he's ever had besides his loves, he has nearly cracked up four or five times. he's been kidnapped and tortured. he's been bassically draged away from the life he loved to play the roll of a despised man, yet he doesn't take the hate personally. he knows he will die for people. he knows all of his underlings wish he'd die and if he ever gives evidence he wasn't the DR he'd be murdered instantly. he has united, totally, Illian, Tear, The Waste and kind of Chairian and Camelyn. whining? i think not... |

i think the plot doesnt develope as fast as people would prefer because he has so many things going on....he is detailing the events in the entire continent, therefore to do each part justice you cant advance the plot as fast. Also i think he is building up for the end right now....ie. book 12...i had heard thats where he is ending it.....but ill bet we see book 13 even if tarmon gaidon is in book 12...we will need the aftermath

At first I wasn't sure as to whether Taim was Demandred or not, but am now pretty convinced he's not. First of all, Taim sends Rochaid and the others to kill Rand in Far Madding, and Then Demandred gives them the same message. What's the point? Second, at the end of WH, when Demandred attempts to stop Rand, he's foiled by Flynn whom he is totally astonished is an Ashaman. If he was Taim, not only would he know Ashaman are of all ages, but also he would know Flynn personally! Someone said that Graendal killed Asmodean; how do you know? That question has always bothered me. How do you know for certain? Any clues anywhere?
As far as the books themselves, I was incredibly disappointed in book 10, and in fact recommended to a friend of mine not to read it until comes out. Nothing happened, except some more poliical shifts, the Atha'an Miere getting even more on my nerves, and Egwene getting kidnapped. What was the point in turning that chain into cuendillar? What did that accomplish? If anyone has any idea, please let me know. |

Jordan definitely has a problem with creating women characters, and apparently making things happen in his precious world. Any other writer could do a complete book in the space Jordan has dedicated to hair-tugging.
I am all caught up on the series, and will finish it (if Jordan does), but the books have been getting worse and worse for awhile now. He just drones on and on about crap, and when something does happen, it's squished into a few pages and described as poorly as possible. I would love to be able to analyze the stuff more, but I would have to quite my job and design some serious software to be able to decipher everything. And if I was going to do that for a book it would be for Gravity's Rainbow way before the WoT. |

Right on Obediah. Thats my point. In the first couple of books everyone went from sheepfarmers to guys who could destroy the world. Now we get 8 pages describing a horse and cart going up the street, then 2 paragraphs bytheway a the evil one is in the house the cart is passing and he is eating the seals w/mustard.
Talk about milking a book contract, Jordan needs to get paid by content not quantity. |
