Ok i was reading the "best documentary" thead and everyone said it was all fake and was edited to make things look bad. It is one of my fav movies and I am a big fan of Michael Moore.

All in all i have the movie and has seen it many times so tell what was fake and edited and tell me info to prove it.

Thanks,

Well, I generally like Moore's work, but some of the stuff in there was questionable. I can't remember all of it very well because I saw it when it first came out, and that's a fairly long time ago (for my memory anyway)

One thing I remember that bugged me was Moore going after Kmart for selling the bullets that paralyzed that kid. 1) he's picking on Kmart when it won't do any good. If I want to kill you, and I can't find the bullets to do it with at Kmart, I'm not gonna just say screw it and go home, I'm gonna go to another store.

2) he's acting like it's Kmart's fault that the kid got paralyzed. If some guy goes on a rampage and runs over people in his Honda, should we tell Honda to stop selling cars? It just didn't make much sense to me.

I'll have to watch that movie again soon so i can give more comments as to what was inaccurate. I remember there were some but I can't remember what they were at all.

Hmmm, wasn't the "Free Gun with a New Bank Account" staged. I thought I heard something about the people in the bank who participated were very sorry they acted that scenario out.

I still haven't seen that movie. For no other reason than there has always been something better for me to rent.

I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of Moore, but I do agree on one of his major points, that being the media contributes to the feeling of fear in the U.S.

Fear= law abiding citizens buying guns
Guns get stolen
Guns used in crimes by criminals
Media shows the crime, creates more fear
cycle starts over

For the bank thing it really took 2 weeks or so for the background checks to come through, but implied that he got it right away. That being said, I still think it is a good movie and that people should watch it. My favorite part was when he went to Canada, "Thank you for not shooting me."

as a fellow Mike Moore fan I must direct you to this link:

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/wackoattacko/

He goes into detail about lies people claim about BFC and I'm sure a lot of what you heard is addressed there.

I think it's more trolling than grandstanding. Which, the last time I checked, was against the rules right?

Just wanted to point out; people in Toronto (all of Canada in fact) do lock their doors. This had to be staged, I can't give you any proof I'm afraid...but there's no way.

I remember that part now. No, the unlocked door wasn't staged, but reports say that he tried MANY houses before he finally found one that was unlocked.

Report me then.

By the way, how is calling him a tool grandstanding? I seem to be the only one on this thread that thinks this, therefore, I am not really grandstanding to any of you am I .

There are many reasons that I think he is a tool. One being his inaccurate "documentary" (quoting Documentary because that is what HE called it, when it actually was semi fake)

Most importantly I don't like him because I felt his Oscar speach was totally un-American. What was tasteless about his comments was the timing. They came just hours after the shocking video was released on Iraqi TV of American POWs who appeared to have been beaten and some even executed by their Iraqi captors. Millions of Americans on that afternoon had either seen the shocking footage or heard about it. By that night, the last thing Americans needed to hear was a cry-baby tirade by some self-appointed "Blue-collar Everyman" who can't seem to get over the 2000 presidential election. Shame on Bush? Bah fuck you, Shame on YOU Michael Moore!

Last but not least, I don't agree with a lot of his viewpoints.

When I say somebody is a tool it is because I think they are a tool (notice the /bold "I"). If you don't agree, that is fine but you are wrong. Whatever I say is right because I am an ocean of awesome. Thanks.

I personally with that his speech was about as American as you can get. It's a great thing that we live in a country where one can do what he did. You may not like what he had to say, but un-American...I don't know about that.

LOL That's some funny shit right there. I like that ...ocean of awsome...

Anyway, as for Moore, not a big fan. He presents BFC as a documentary when clearly it is not. He twists things around to illustrate his points and is basically a hypocrite. He's probably right about the media instilling fear in the public, but he's doing the same thing only he's using the fear to sell his books and movies to make millions.

Parading around like a working mans hero, while he sits in the comfort afforded by his money nowhere near the troubles that the average working man deals with.

Anyway, that's just my take on the man.

All documentaries should be taken with hardly more than a grain of salt when analyzing the "truths" that they display. And it's not because the actions in documentaries didn't necessarily happen the way they did, it's because these films sometimes do not show the full context of the situation. The most powerful tool that a documentary possesses is editing. Without the use of editing, the filmmaker has a more difficult time convincing the audience of his or her own personal beliefs or agenda. Bowling for Columbine is no different in that respect. While I enjoyed the movie, I know that Moore has his own agenda, and is best to do more outside research to really get an unbiased opinion on the happenings of the film. This film, nevertheless, was an eye opener, but the person watching the film should always continue to be skeptical. If we don't scrutinize documentaries, all the films are is purely entertainment, which the filmmaker generally wishes for to reach a larger, more emotionally charged audience.

Even the classic movie Nuit et brouillard (Night and Fog, 1955), while being a fantastic film about what truly happened during the Holocaust, is guilty of editing to prove one or more points. I love the movie, but a truly accurate documentary would be one where the filmmaker left the camera rolling and never edited it. This is really rare, and I probably wouldn't even enjoy it, although it would be more true to reality.

Good lord dude, why do you think Moore made that speech? The POW's were there BECAUSE Bush put them there when he didn't have to.

If people would make the connection that the soldiers are dying not because Iraq is evil but because the soldiers are there trying to kill Iraqis, and that they are doing that because Bush told them to even though it was NOT necessary, maybe propaganda artists like Bush and company wouldn't be able to dupe the entire country!

I would have to say "WAY". One of my neighbours was one of the people in the movie in that scene and it happened just the way it was filmed.
