Questions of Star Wars Lore, regarding KOTOR

not sure whether this should go in the Gaming or Entertainment Forums, but I figure if my questions are right, they would be written about in some sort of book, so I guess this thread belongs here. Anyway, down to the question.

Are the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic considered 'canon' Star Wars lore? Before playing this game I wasn't really into the Star Wars..."universe." I was wondering if the Exar Kun War, Mandalorian Wars and the story of Revan, Malak, Bastila, and the Star Forge were originally part of Lucas' imagination. Or are they just fan fiction stories that have been adapted into the storyline?

my guess would be the latter, and may simply have been the invention of the game developers.

I just started this game on Xbox, btw. Fun stuff

The official word is that if it's not in one of the movies, it's not canon.

^ Indeed. You should read "Darksaber" best star wars novel imo.

Well the ideas themselves aren't directly from George Lucas himself. However, they do have to go through approval by Lucas before they are distributed to the public, also, they have to coincide with the history of all the other books and Expanded Universe items for the sake of flow.

I've not yet read a Star Wars novel that doesn't suck. Seems to me only hacks get the job of writing them. Kevin J Anderson? Eugh.

The word is that only the movies are canon, anything else is ripe for contradiction.

Shadows of the Empire was a damn good book. Explained what happened between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Excellent stuff.

Let's see... I read a lot of the X-Wing novels. I'd ploughed through a load of them before I realised I was reading tripe... and not only that, I was giving serious consideration to starting my own fanfic, just so I could beat the shit out of Corran Horn. Fucking hated that prick. Never really enjoyed the Timothy Zahn books either. Oh yeah, and I once read a biography of Michael Stackpole in the front of one of his novels that said he could write a book inside three months. Yeah, it fucking shows.
