New Batman movie now titled "Batman Begins"

here's the latest update. the cast of this movie is just outta control (in a good way lol). it's a big all-star cast for real. I'm hyped, and it just started filming in iceland...

Quote:
Batman Begins, director Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, has commenced production in Iceland, with Gary Oldman joining the all-star cast. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

In Batman Begins, Oldman will play Lieutenant James Gordon, a detective on the Gotham police force. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman; Michael Caine as his trusted butler Alfred; Katie Holmes as Rachel, a childhood friend of Wayne's; Liam Neeson as Wayne's mentor, Henri Ducard; Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, a former board member and sidelined employee of Wayne Enterprises; and Ken Watanabe as the villainous Ra's Al Ghul.

Directed by Christopher Nolan from a screenplay by David Goyer and Christopher Nolan, Batman Begins is produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Larry Franco. The executive producers are Ben Melniker and Michael Uslan. The film is based on characters created by Bob Kane and published by DC Comics.

Batman Begins is scheduled to film in Iceland, London and Chicago.

The film, which explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham, will be released worldwide in Summer 2005 by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Oldman as Gordon? I can't wait for this. Sounds pretty much like Batman Year One.

Christian Bale is all I needed to hear to tell me this film has potential, throwing in the rest of the cast and the director gives me high hopes.

I am getting so tired of Danny Elfman scoring every movie that comes out of the Hollywood Machine. There are hundreds of other composers just as, or more talented than the Elfman Music System. He's only getting hired now because he has name recognition.

Rumour has it that he only composes a little bit of the music he is attached to now, and most of his work is that of his "interns." But that's just a rumour and I have way to back it up.

As long as its not directed/produced (whatever) by Jerry Bruckheimer, it'll be good. All that black light shit was stupid.

But yes, with Christian Bale in it, it had better be good. If he gives the same calibre performance as he did in Equilibrium, then we're good.

IMDB.com had it labeled as "Batman: Intimidation." "Begins" is is still dorky, but at least it's way better than "Intimidation."

And the music is by David Julyan, the guy who did the scores for Nolan's "Insomnia" and "Memento." Those were both good, as far as I can remember, so it'll be interesting to see how a non-Elfman Batman score turns out.

I don't think Elfman is scoring any more than other film composers. Interns writing most of the music?? Yeah, Steve Bartek orchestrates all of his music, but where have you heard about the intern claim? Just curious. I would also love Elfman to score the film, but I doubt that's going to happen.

In other breaking news, Prince is revising his role for the soundtrack. Already having 'Batdance' under his belt, expect 'Batwaltz', 'Battango', and 'Battwostep' to make it on the Batman:Begins soundtrack. Unfortunately, Michael Keaton isn't featured on the soundtrack either.

I couldn't agree more! He was my favorite character in the Batman animated series! I just hope they don't kill him off in this one. Or at least wait until another movie to do it.

I doubt that they'll kill him off in one movie, Ras Al Ghul was a consistent villain in the animated series and probably one of the better ones. Besides, there's no way a "first year" Batman could out-smart Ras Al Ghul.

WOW the script was leaked and has spawned an INCREDIBLY positive review. Check it out in full here: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=17140

Quote:
I didn't like the title BATMAN BEGINS at first. It felt, and still feels in a way, clunky. INTIMIDATION GAME didn't sound exactly right either. What to call the movie that sets the Batman film saga right back to square one? The film that wipes the slate clean, from not only the cinematic abortion that was BATMAN AND ROBIN, but even Tim Burton's two films? Having thought it over and after reading the script, BATMAN BEGINS is the best possible title, and it sets the franchise off to a terrific start, with so much potential that fanboys will need to wear raincoats to the theater, so overcome with orgasmic joy will they be.

I don't know what Christopher Nolan will bring to the film, but his sense in casting is dead on perfect. The actors that have been cast fit their parts perfectly.

As far as the previous Batman films, only the first one feels like it's anything approaching good to me, and even that film feels sloppy. Nothing against Prince, but his musical interludes didn't work, and like Bruce says in the original film, some of BATMAN is very much Tim Burton, and some of it isn't. Well, the first film also doesn't come close to the angst and power that the character has, the darkness and tragedy in Bruce Wayne that compels the fans to follow his story again and again.

This is the part without spoilers. If you don't want to read any, cut loose after this paragraph... but feel comforted that for the first time, they got it right. Not the TV show. Not the films we've seen so far. This feels like Batman, and it brings the franchise to a point where anything is possible. All the characters you know and love are treated well and fairly, and if Superman gets this treatment, maybe the WB won't be the ire of fanboys everywhere. With this script, I feel that Warner Brothers is on the right track with this character, and I can't wait to see the sequel to THIS particular Batman film.

Batman: Begin sounds stupid and dorky at the same time. Yes, I do know that alot of times "stupid" and "dorky" comes in hand and hand. I'm the finest example of that.

Could they have called it Batman: Beginning?

God no, brings Adam West to mind, perhaps "The Beginning"... I'm not too fond of the chosen title either, "Rebirth" might've been nice, signalling Wayne rebirth as the Bat and the Rebirth of a fucked franchise.

here's something else interesting...

Quote:
According to Batman On Film, Guy Pearce might still be making an appearance as Harvey Dent in “Batman Begins”.

Says the site, “Two separate scoopers--one new, and one longtime source--emailed me today with the same rumor. And I said rumor, so take it as such. In the script, Harvey Dent is only mentioned, and he's never seen in person. Nonetheless, both sources said they heard that Asst. D.A. Harvey Dent could make a small cameo in BATMAN BEGINS. And Guy Pearce may play Dent in this scenario. This is hardly set in stone, but I will say that if Pearce agreed to the role, he could easily by inserted into the film. BOF's longtime source says that even if Pearce/Dent appears in the film, this does not mean that Two-Face will be in the sequel--or the one after....”

In addition, BOF reports that an American has been cast in the film, possibly in the role of Thomas Wayne.
Guy Pearce would be awesome, even in a small cameo. Man, Chris Nolan is doing a stand up job with the cast in this movie; from the great castings to the latest script review things are looking up for this flick.

USA Today talked to actor Cillian Murphy, who can next be seen in "Intermission"...

The actor goes to London in April for Batman Begins, directed by Chris Nolan (Memento) with Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader. Murphy, who is the evil Scarecrow, is confident this fourth sequel will revive the franchise done in by 1997's Batman & Robin. "We've got the best director we could get and an amazing cast."

While Batman Begins is not really the "fourth sequel," it's still a cool bit.

It would just be the business if they disregarded everything in the first four films and reinvented the whole Batman mythos, as it should have been done in first place. It was the guy saying Two-Face may or may not make an appearance in a sequel. I always think the films made a mistake in killing off villains after their first adventure. It would be awesome to see the whole Jack Napier story redone.

This is true, but did you see the movie? He's bending and flipping all over the place and jumping 87 times higher and further than any regular human being.

They're supposed to be human. Sure acrobatics and the like are nice, but leave the matrix-style shit out of it.

This movie and most of the cast make it sound like it's going to be a great big blockbuster.

But...
If this is going to be about Bruce/Batman's early years, shouldn't they get someone younger than Michael Caine to play Alfred Pennyworth?
Alfred is an older man in the comics and earlier movies, when Bruce is at his prime or peak. Right?
Michael Caine, 'though a badass actor, is already an older man now, so where does that leave Alfred for future growth?
He would be too old to help.
Any thoughts on this?

On the other hand, maybe I'm being too nitpicky.
