I think in this situation, Super Troopers was so funny because there were no expectations. Now that everyone liked Super Troopers, the bar is raised and Club Dread is expected to be as funny throughout as the funniest moment in Super Troopers. It is the same with every comedy sequel. I know that Club Dread is not a true sequel, but it suffers the same fate here. I really enjoyed Super Troopers, but I didn't see it in theatres and I won't see Club Dread in theatres, but I will see it.

I HATED Super Troopers. HATED IT. My friends recently told me that I need to see it a second time to really appreciate it. No thanks. I'd rather not.

I thought the first 30 minutes of Super Troopers was the funniest movie I had ever seen, ever. But after the 30 minute mark (give or take) the movie started to be less funny, and by the end it just wasn't funny at all. I think it's because of the plot development. The non-existant plot in the beginning made it funny as hell. Later on it made it boring.
The second time I watched the movie, the jokes were exhausted and I didn't laugh once. That's the only bad part.

Sometimes you do need to watch it twice. The first time i chuckled here and there, but wasn't always quite following (didn't help the now ex gf was there to fool around with) but later I watched again and was rolling on the floor, and couldn't resist getting the DVD.
As for Clubb Dread, I liked it, but yeah, it just didn't stand up to SuperTroopers. Has anyone seen the movie I think it's called "Puddle Jumping"? Supposedly Broken Lizard's first movie. I think they mention it in the commentary on the ST DVD, but I've never seen it anywhere, and a quick seach of IMDb provides nothing...

Puddle Cruiser
It's Puddle Cruiser, I've tried to find it, haven't been able to as of yet though. Sounds kind of interesting. |

I liked it a lot. From the pac man game to the "This Is A Potential Suspect!" music cues, oh man...

Super Troopers did set the bar awfully high. Dread was allright, especially if you compare it to other cheesy goofy slasher horror flicks. But I think they could have done a much better job. Couple of good lines though.
"Pee-no-lope. What a beautiful name." "Pina Colada Berg came out seven years before Margaritaville. Son-of-a-son-of-a-bitch!"

I hated Super Troopers the first time I saw it in the theater, but the second (and third, and fourth.........) time I saw it, I got a new appreciation for it and now, it's one of my favorites.

I loved Super Troopers, but Club Dread ... had something missing. I'd definitely watch it again, though.
It was funny at parts, but I left wanting a whole lot more. I just kept waiting for an insanely crazy and hilarious scene to happen... but it just never came. Coconut Pete and his songs were great.
