can we leave marissa out of the porn? seriously if she runs around naked she might poke someone's eye out with a protruding bone. I guess she can be on the show if she eats a sandwhich or something.

Oooh, good point. That might not be a pretty sight at all. That's what I mean by "looking better with their clothes on". She may or may not look better this way.

Hmmm, she looks great to me. You seem to have a lot of hate for this girl .

Actually, it's just fun to hate her; it's really nothing personal. I think her character's just a little too whiny. I saw her in some hideous movie last year, and the acting wasn't bad. I think it's mostly the character.

I agree...she ranks at the bottom of my list from the show of women that need to be seen in porn!!!

Common, that is something Oprah or Ricki Lake would say Put down the donuts and stop casting stones at people who bust their ass to have such a low bodyfat %. If she is too thin, I would hate to see what you consider fat . It's no wonder more than 60% of Americans are overweight, they all share the same attitude you have .

Pray tell how you think this is too skinny?

umm excuse me but i think i'm allowed to have an opinion without being personally attacked -- I think she looks too thin -- so do two of the men in this discussion. I don't think I need to qualify that, especially when you've chosen to react to my opinion is such an immature manner.

okay, new line of questioning:

will Ryan and Marissa turn into the new "Ross & Rachel", or will they actually find some other people to successfully date? Does Ryan's utility on the show completely run out in the absence of some dramatic, yet uncommunicative relationship with The L'il Coop?

Discuss.

This actually worries me -- it seems like their relationship has already gotten stale and we're not even done with the first season. If the writers are intent on a Ryan/Marissa relationship then they need to give us something a little more interesting to watch -- cause what we're looking at now is just recycled stereotypical teenage relationship crap. Even OliverGate (term stolen from television without pity) was basically a rewrite of the Luke/Ryan dynamic form the first few episodes.

Well, I'm a sucker for the underdog; the once-bad-boy trying to be the good boy. And, I do appreciate Seth's sarcasm. I think the show has a good time slot. Middle of the week(9p EST)...you are done doing everything you need to do, not quite ready for bed...why not watch the OC? At least that's my theroy. The only other TV show I have watched reguarly is the Simspons.

I agree, Anomaly77.... I'm hoping this Ryan thing turns into something good, but the writers insist on bringing up little tidbits of Ryan's past every time you think an episode might go by without some contrived "emergency"... i.e. Trey (?), the brother... the ex girlfriend (soon to be recurring?), the old buddy from the 'hood (name escapes me), etc etc... what's next? He once dated someone with an STD? Come on, people.

I fear they've shown him as too strong a character, too able to actually adjust and fit in to the OC community -- so they have to throw endless hitches from the past at him. Perhaps this is the premise of the show, but I enjoy the little twists and turns in subplot/peripheral characters (yes, including Seth's sex life and the possible re-appearance of the WonderWoman costume).

thoughts on this evenings episode:

1. i see we're rocking the journey... ok, fine -- but i'm on to your little plot to make me feel like anna is molly ringwald all over again.

2. and luke beds caitlin in 5...4....

3. good to know that the maids at the mermaid inn are out their cleaning rooms at 3am -- they must get awfully tired -- maybe teresa should have asked for a job.

4. eric balafour i love you -- not in the fresh youthful spring scented way that i love seth but in more of a hardcore fuck me like grease lightening and get transmission fluid in my hair way -- but it's still love, i assure you.

5. luke does the sensitve guitar guy thing? um no.

Yeah, I thought that was funny as hell.

I'm wondering how long this show will last though. I love it, but in the span of just a few episodes it's had (not in order):

Gay father coming out and destroying the family
Bad boy stealing car and getting second chance
Arson
Suicide attempt
several love triangles
devirginization
psychotic boyfriends/fiances
Business scandals
affairs (or at least strong leanings towards affairs)
school suspensions
a main character leaving

I'm sure I've left out some because the list was longer when me and my girlfriend were talking about it this morning. They hit on so many storylines in such a short period (part of which makes it great) that I fear they are going to burn out.

Finally caught the last episode (most recent, that is, not "finale"), and I have to agree with bri and onetime2... they're really starting to blur the boundaries between 90210 and "ABC After School Special" (which is possibly the same discussion that Luke will use next time he chats up Caitlin).

It'll be interesting to see how (and if) Jimmy pursues this torrid affair between his soon-to-be-ex and his daughter's ex. I like how he noted how wrong the prospect of that relationship would be because it would kill Marissa, and not for any other reason.

I think Julie Cooper may have accidentally discovered a new way to make a buck in the OC.

One final thought... they brought the "spa girls" back in for brief moment at Caleb's party. Maybe my threesome/deviant sex theme will actually come to fruition?

seems to me that they rush through story lines as if they were trying to squeeze everything in before they are cancelled...which isn't the case. I know things get boring quick in today's Internet-speed world, but sometimes you have to take your time and build slowly to the big pay off...

reviving the thread....

What is up with Luke being in love with Mrs. Coop? And why does he need to blurt out that he's "not sleeping with Julie Cooper" anymore? Sheesh

Well, according to the radio this morning, we might not have to bother with the Luke storylines for much longer. They said something to the effect of Fox not being able to offer any guarantees on air time for the character and the actor who plays him may not renew the contract.

I think it would be a shame for him to go. Even though he's not a main part of most storylines I think he adds to the cast and is a perfect contrast to Seth and Ryan.

Oh come on, Seth could take up the baton and become a brawler. That could be the whole steroids plot line which I'm sure they'll eventually get to.

ok the insane fighting is getting really ridiculous -- ryan decided to start a fight with 5 huge bouncers in a club in LA all by himself in an effort to defend the honor of a 30 year old heroin addict? no one is that stupid.

I still haven't figured out why she needed to be "rescued".

Of course, I also don't understand why everyone feels the need to lie to Caleb about his deviant (albeit attractive) daughter. Must be one of those TV things where it's blatently obvious to everyone-but-one-person what's really going on.

and tonight the OC treats us to another episode of "ryan can't let anyone sort out their own life." someone please explain to me why going to rescue marissa is his job. How is he more equipt to deal with this than her father (and does her dad even know she's gone -- why does he spend this entire episode eating cupcakes and swooning over hailey?)? does it bother anyone else that apparently ryan thinks it's A-ok to ditch his adopted family to run off and solve other people's problems? shouldn't his commitment be to the cohen's over little miss needs-to-be-on-a-higher-dose-of-anti-depressives?

in other news:

summer doing the jewish thing for seth? so cute -- i love her now.

I can't understand how this "bad boy" has to be a hero and save those that don't need saving while getting his ass-kicked everytime he tries--and doing nothing about it!!

In the real world, if one of my friends when I was in H.S. was banging a MILF...he'd be a hero and none of htis drama would b happening!

Well, I did think that this episode was better than last week. I agree with you guys, though. At least Ryan going after Marissa was more believable than the desperate need to "save" Hailey. Why he refused to let anyone else help him is beyond me, though.

Also, could someone clear up why Marissa's mom couldn't call the cops? "What are you gonna tell them when they ask why she left?" Are the cops really going to be concerned with the fact that Julie Cooper slept with Luke? Would they not help her because she betrayed her daughter's trust?

I guess I'll keep watching until the end of the season, but I'm not sure I can see myself watching a second season of this show.

batman: i think that the cops *could* be concerned about julie cooper having sex with an underage boy -- statutory rape and all, but i do find it a bit unlikely (societal double standard, i imagine they would care if jimmy were boinking summer)

Yeah, I noticed that one too. He seems to be falling down quite a bit these days.

Brianna: I guess for some reason I assumed Luke was 18. What grade are they supposed to be in, anyway? I still don't think the fuzz would have been all too concerned with it. Especially if they had a missing child on their hands with a history of depression and attempted suicide.

I think they're juniors, and sagutory is sagutory. They'd care. And plus, Julie is a reasonably paranoid individual, so even if he were 18, she'd be worried about the cop telling his wife (perhaps a spa woman!) and so on and so forth.

ANNA NEEDS TO COME BACK!

And speaking of her, I just saw the girl who plays her on some other show on like TBS or something called the Dumbass show or something like that. It's kinda like MTV's Jackass. She had long brown hair (possibly) a wig but yeah it was Anna.

I hope they bring her back to the show; she's cool peoples. lol.

Technically, you are watching the second season... but we won't spread that around

So, how many episodes left in this season? Any predictions for the cliff-hanger? Suicide / drug overdose is out -- been there, botched that. How about a pregnancy?
