Anime Junkies

i've been watching anime for a while now, but didn't really get into it until very recently. my roomate, lordeden (you might know him, or of him) got me into it. my fav would have to be hellsing, i just really got into the animation and the plot. yeah, there's a ton of vampire-fighting-vampire anime, but hellsing put new ideas into the genre. on a side note, vampire hunter d is also a good one. any newer one's that are representing the same ideas?

Witch Hunter Robin is pretty good, and it's being aired (dubbed..eww) on Cartoon Network right now.

Shingutan Tsukihime is a very good series that has the vampire theme..
The main plot is about this boy who after a car accident can see "death lines" and it drives him nuts , until a woman gives him glasses that allow him not to see these lines. Well..one day something happends to the glasses and he "accidently" flys into a rage and kills this woman.. It really messes him up, and he swears he sees her face everywhere he goes. Finally he contronts his vision only to find out it IS in fact the woman he killed..the vampire princess Alucard..

oooh.... if you like horro, some shoujo and drama elements..this is THE series to watch (it helps that she is kinda cute.. like a vampiric KareKano)

If you are interested in more anime than fighting, or vampires.. let me know..Im terribly up to date about anime.

oh yeah.. and next time.. try searching for this topic first.. there are 2 pretty big anime threads here.. one for anime, and one against it
(why THAT is allowed, i'll never know)

hopefully a mod will see this soon and merge it..

I'll go ahead and post here before the treads merge.

Anyone watching Full Metal Alchemist? I'm enjoying it very much. I think up to episode 19 is out, and they plan on making 52.

i've got all of witchhunter robin, subbed of course, can't stand anything else (yay newsgroups). haven't seen any of the others mentioned but hellsing, are they licensed? it's easy to find popular anime that isn't licensed in north america, fansubs and such.....

check out www.animesuki.com, which is a nice bittorrent page for fansubs. If you can, I highly recommend getting into Naruto (I dont think Ganguro will disagree).
Jungle Ha Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu was awesome. Completely whacked out and funny all the way through.

nope, i wont disagree about Naruto.. It's a really solid story, and has a lot of elements for everyone.. love story, fighting, a little bit of everyday life stuff, and a comming of age story thrown in too. One of the anime groups here in town was showing 5 hours worth of naruto last saturday to get people up to speed through the first season.

haha.. ONLY five hours?

That's nothing!

The manga is good too.. if you want to be lightyears ahead of where the story currently is in the anime.

i have 21 volumes of the manga..but i havent read them because i enjoy the anime soo much i dont want to spoil it for myself. I did that with Fruits Basket..and it kind of turned me off from the anime.

The 5 hours of one series was actually a ballsy move by the programmer..because it can get tiring after 2 hours if you aren't into it. Im sponsoring a meetup on the 3rd Thursday of each month at a local venue in town and i'll proally be showing 2 hours of programming each time.. Though im going to be branching out form anime into HK film, Korean film, Japanse drama, etc.. Ultimately i would like to get a group together to enter a fanwork into the Las Vegas Animation festival next year.. but we'll see.

I also just finished watching Scrapped Princess, which was a quite good. Reminded me a lot of Orson Scott Card's Homecoming series. Nice scifi mingled with medieval fantasy sort of thing.

Bezerk. It's not about vampires, the occasional demon, but mostly about a guy with a sword like Cloud's killing thousands of guys at once as his life goes down a spiral ending with his arm getting lost and his woman stolen. (it's not a spoiler, the first episode is after the series takes place).

All of the series you guys are naming so far are very "macho". (Not that there is anything wrong with that)

Just curious..

Oh, and DownwardSpiral.. dont be ashamed of liking Kenshin.. it's a good series, though the dubs are just horrid.

girly..
not to be confused with Shoujoi ai.. but i guess that would emcompass it as well.

For an example series such as:

KareKano, SaiKano, Fruits Basket, etc..
Shonen anime is more geared towards boys.. and would be
YuYu Hakusho, DBZ, Fist of the North Star, Beserk, etc..

Sure some series contain elements of all genres.. but it's just a general term.

For more info check out this page. It's pretty helpful in breaking down the gender based specifics of anime/manga.

Cowboy bebop is good. It reminds me more of a traditional sci-fi movie than most animes. It has some cool fight scenes.

I like all different kinds of animes, everything from Spiral (I beleive that's the same one, if it is, it PISSED ME OFF), to GITS:SAC, to Rizelmine (oh holy jesus the baddness), to Naurto. I'll watch anything once, but sometimes only once. As I write this post I'm listing to the Cowboy Bebop Box Set (great for any fan of the series). The music made that show, without it, it wouldn't be what it is. Yoko Kanno <sp?> is such a great musical talnet.

I enjoy Naruto but it pisses me off to no end with the direction and pacing and it's storytelling - shit you can watch very few episodes and get recapped via flashbacks and know everything that is going on. THat, and the action could be better, but I like the characters so I can lower my standards on that.

A series I never finished and was really loving was Jounni Kokki, I guess it got licensed before the groups subbing it could finish; ohwell.

Alchemist is pretty hot~

A classic Shoujo anime that I also enjoyed would have to be Fuushugi Yuugi *think I spelled that right*. I guess I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.
