Lucas basically ripped off a ton of concepts from other creators, mashed them together, and made Star Wars. Don't knock it, it's a valid creative method, and it produced the most watched Sci-Fi franchise ever.

Everyone does it, just look at The Matrix and The Terminator (I love both franchises though...).
Spice Mines of Kessel, I recommend reading the Han Solo trilogy, explains them in there plus it's damn good for a Star Wars novel series. |

I don't even see how the two can be compared. I've recently read Dune and of course have seen Starwars more times than I am comfortable admitting. But I don't see a resemblance between the two storys.
