Movies that have affected you most

What are some movies- maybe even one in particular that has moved you, changed you, or affected you greatly in some way?

I would have to say:
-Matrix trilogy
-Gladiator
-Armageddon
-Equilibrium
-Star Wars (all)
-Dreaming with Fishes (indie)
-LOTR trilogy
-Bruce Almighty

i would say that movies like Blade Runner and AI have helped me understand the meaning of emotion.

Kaos 02-09-2004 06:08 PM

Chaindance
Door-To-Door
American Beauty
Shawshank Redemption

xim 02-09-2004 07:12 PM

The matrix was interesting but it was all old hat to my by the time it came out.

Fight Club changed my life.

kurtisj 02-09-2004 07:59 PM

The Matrix Trilogy
Fight Club
LOTR Set
Seven
Gladiator
Those are all that come to mind right now

Lasereth 02-09-2004 08:06 PM

Definitely the Matrix trilogy. The LOTR trilogy showed that a fantasy series CAN be made into good movies -- something I never thought I'd see.

Saving Private Ryan and the Band of Brothers mini-series.

Those are the ones on the top of my head, even though I'm positive there's more out there.

lucidity 02-09-2004 08:30 PM

American Beauty
Rob Roy
Breakfast at Tiffanys

Vanilla Sky
Armageddon

Star Wars influenced me in writing an imaginative Saga with incredible depth.

All of Akira Kurosawa's Samurai epics make me yearn for a time before mechanical facinations.

The Last Samurai recently encouraged this yearning and made me feel incredibly sad for modern day man...

Requiem For a Dream.

I spent the rest of the night basically in shock at the depths of mankind.

Death Stalker 1-4

I spent the rest of my night basically in laughter at man's lack of depth or substance or anything of worth

CinnamonGirl 02-10-2004 07:08 AM

Requiem for a Dream scarred me for life...well...maybe not. But, like mystmarimatt, I spent the rest of the night pretty much in shock.

Hmmm...I can't think of any others. I guess books have more of an impact on me than movies do...

La Haine

A brilliant and affecting French film

synic213 02-10-2004 11:12 AM

All of these movies have touched me in a way that I think has slightly changed who I am:

Logerine 02-10-2004 03:12 PM

I really like the first The Crow movie with Brandon Lee. I also like Braveheart, Highlander, LOTR. That's all I can think of for now.

Redjake 02-10-2004 05:13 PM

Shawshank Redemption
Fight Club
Band of Brothers
Requiem for a Dream
The Matrix Trilogy
Star Wars (all)
The Blues Brothers

The Usual Suspects. We live in a smoke-and-mirrors world where truth is just another illusion in the service of power, and nothing outside your personal orbit can every truly be known. TUS summed that up brilliantly.

sexymama 02-10-2004 06:10 PM

A little different view here:

Slingblade:(
Secretary:icare:
Under the Tuscan Sun:icare:
Radio:cool:
Pumpkin:hmm:

Dilbert1234567 02-10-2004 07:24 PM

Saving Private Ryan

LOTR Trilogy

Equilibrium

docbungle 02-10-2004 09:32 PM

The 25th Hour
American History X
Five Easy Pieces
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Apocalypse Now
A Clockwork Orange

All affected me enough to change either who I am or at least how I feel about things, to an extent.

I might as well list a few that haven't been listed.

Bob Roberts
Waking Life
Momento
A Clockwork Orange
Porn (any)
This one movie with subtitles that told the story of a guy's family before, during and after Mao's revolution.
But I'm a cheerleader

TheJig 02-11-2004 05:57 AM

I feel like I'm leaving something major out here. Well, anyway here's my short list.

Glory
LOTR Trilogy
U.H.F.
Swingers

The sad thing is that Swingers was the only one out of the four that I didn't cry at the end of. Don't ask me why I cried at the end of U.H.F. I think it was the scene where Weird Al gives Stanley the trophy at the end.

"Worlds Greatest Janitor and TV Star"

Gortexfogg 02-11-2004 06:11 AM

The Man With No Name Trilogy
The African Queen
Breathless
Safety Last
The Palm Beach Story
Brazil
and more than any other film,
All Quiet on the Western Front

sexymama 02-11-2004 06:34 AM

I forgot -- "It's a Beautiful Life"

Kadath 02-11-2004 07:36 AM

Shawshank Redemption
Heat
Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys
Lost in Translation
On the Beach

And some more, I'm sure.

sipsake 02-11-2004 08:03 AM

King of Hearts
The Last Temptation of Christ
Blade Runner
The Doctor

jobu 02-11-2004 08:12 AM

Forest Gump - the scene where they get ambushed in the jungle
it was the first time i realized that somtimes in a fight there isn't anywhere to take cover

Saving Private Ryan - up til then i didn't think about getting killed by something other than a bullet or shell ie. getting hit by a flying brick coming from an exploding building
