question about The Passion of Christ
the pope supposedly said "it is as it was" about this movie, but when i saw the trailer.. i was wondering, how could it be?
first jesus is played by a white actor secondly, theres a close up of the nails being driven, and they are driven into the palm, where in actuality the romans drove the nails in the wrist area since the hand wouldnt support the body if mel gibson wanted to create an accurate description of jesus, why didnt he? and im guessing in the movie they call him jesus, and not by his real name Yoshua Ben-Yosef

^ not cool at all man. But mbchills I just think that all hell woulda broke out (absolutely no pun intended) if Jesus wasn't played by a caucasion actor. This is just how as a society we are used to seeing him so I think they didn't want to change something drastically like that. As for the nails, I'm not as well-versed in the Bible as I could be so I don't know enough to comment on that.
I am looking forward to the movie in a couple weeks though. It should be pretty moving and good. |

mbchills is right about the nails. I can't believe they over-looked something so simple as the correct way to crucify someone. But I don't respect the pope's opinion any more than I would my next door neighbor's. Their both men, and neither one of them was there the day Christ (Yoshua) was crucified. How the heck does the pope know "It is as it was."?

There's so much crap about little things.. Oh jesus didn't carry the assembled cross, just the long part... oh the nails in the hands and not the wrist..
This happened 2000+ years ago. People can't even get everything right when they know all the facts about the source material(ie: anything based on a book), do you think, with 50+ denominations breathing down your neck with different opinions and source material 2000 years old they are going to get by without a few mistakes? (btw I think the bible(KJV) says they nailed his hands, not is wrist, even though historians say otherwise(I could be wrong) My opinion is take the movie for what it is, not as historical/biblical fact, because obviously it's not(white actor, modern day dialect(sp), nails in the wrong spot, cross, etc etc etc..) I personally don't care. If they try to change the bible to match the belief of this film, then I'll give a crap. Until then, Watch and be entertained, inspired, or dissapointed. Your choice.
