So good you bought the soundtrack
Mephisto's post about the movie being so good you bought the DVD, doesn't really do much for me since going to the movies costs US$21 for me and the wife to attend. No popcorn or beverages.
So any movie that hits the US$19.99 mark, it's instantly something that makes sense to buy even if it's a crap movie because it's the same price without the annoying cellphone, crying child, and annoying tall person. BUT, I can say there have been some times in my life where the soundtrack was just incredible. Sometimes where I left the theater, went straight to the record store and bought the CD. (yes it kills me that the CD can cost the same as the DVD which I find inconceivable)e Here's some of the soundtracks that I bought: Little Mermaid (right after the movie) Cocktail Grosse Point Blank Nightmare Before Christmas Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon |
Beetlejuice! I decided I need the soundtrack during the opening credits.
|
The movies so good I bought the soundtracks:
snatch the Italian Job Oceans 11 (new) I own those soundtracks, good soundtracks too. There are better movies, but you asked about soundtracks. |
oooh.. I forgot ALL about Beetlejuice!!!!
|
Dazed and Confused
Forrest Gump SuperFly High Fidelity Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Rushmore Royal Tenenbaums |
Most of my CD's seem to be soundtracks:
Blade Blade 2 Godzila Reservoir Dogs The Beach 8 Mile Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels Ali G In Da House Above The Rim Friday Juice |
Glory
Love Actually |
Edward Scissorhands
Gladiator and i want the LoTR soundtracks. |
Blade and A Clockwork Orange and I have no freakin idea why.
Oh yeah The Crow. Love that soundtrack |
Kill Bill and The Thomas Crowne Affair had an excellent soundtrack.
|
Some of the sountracks I needed:
Hackers Romy and Michelle's Highschool Reunion The Wedding Singer Supercop But if you meant original movie score, I have to go with: Last of the Mohicans Glory Braveheart American Beauty |
Matrix and Matrix Reloaded
Gladiator Lord of the Rings Trilogy Blade Ocean's 11 Forrest Gump I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of. I'm not gonna include the list of musicals and operas I own, thats a different kind of soudtrack and would take too long. :) |
It seems I have only bought one soundtrack ever, for the movie "Shocker."
I do have the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack that was given to me by a friend. |
Just 2.
Return of the Jedi Singles And I've never even seen Singles. It's just a great grunge-era soundtrack, with one of Pearl Jam's top three songs. |
Now you've hit a chord with me... I seem to have started collecting soundtracks and scores. :)
Of recent soundtracks, Kill Bill is excellent. As for my favorite alltime soundtrack, it's definitely a tie between The Lost Boys and Highlander. |
The Matrix
Pi Ghost in the Shell Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Amelie LOTR (all three) A good soundtrack is good if it can stand up in its own right. If listening to it doesn't necessarily evoke the film. |
When I saw Casino, I wanted that soundtrack very badly, but I could not find it ANYWHERE.
I like the soundtrack to the movie Kids. It probably wouldn't sound half as good if I didn't see the movie. |
The Shawshank Redemption.
Pretty much anything of Thomas Newman, and a lot of his stuff turns up everywhere. Blade Runner: Vangelis BraveHeart Donnie Darko Singles ...There are so many good mvoies with ambient stuff in it though, for which, i doubt, a sound track has been released. |
The Wedding Singer...and at the risk of everyone pointing and laughing, I went straight to the store from the theatre to buy the Josie & the Pussycats soundtrack. I love Kay Hanley's voice.
Oh--also went right from the theatre to the store for the Chicago soundtrack. I just recently caught Romy & Michele on TV, and decided I need that soundtrack, too. :) |
Grosse Pointe Blank
American Pie Orange County |
The nightmare before Xmas
Willy Wonka Lost Highway Storytelling The Matrix Reloaded Blade 1 and 2 pi CB4 Friday New Jersey Drive (ok, so the movie wasnt good, but the sdtk was great) Anime: Every Miyazaki Movie (Nausica, Porco Rosso, Kiki's, Totoro, etc...) Habanei Renmei Last Exile Gunslinger Girl FLCL Azumanga Daioh Love Hina Game: Guilty Gear X, and X2 Killer instinct |
Pulp Fiction
all of the LOTR movies |
I ran out right after seeing both Grosse Point Blank and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrells to buy the soundtrack, but in both cases I had to wait till the next day. Needless to say, I was a little anxious for the release of both.
|
Pulp Fiction
Lost Boys Singles Sleepless in Seattle (great lineup of older songs, Jimmy Durante, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong...) |
Pulp Fiction is the only movie that inspired me to buy it's soundtrack.
|
Pirates of the Caribbean is great as long as you have some big speakers, the bass is lost on smaller speakers, but it is incredible.
|
The Spy Game soundtrack tops my list. The Sneakers soundtrack is really good, too.
|
Kill Bill
Unfaithful Rules of Attraction Trainspotting Forrest Gump Virgin Suicides still to get... American Pyscho Fear and Loathing Lost in Translation |
the three soundtracks that i've bought...right after seeing the film....Trainspotting, Rushmore, and the Royal Tenenbaums
|
Queen of the Damned.
One of the damned best soundtracks you will ever buy. |

|
The Gladiator, Love Actually, My best Friend's Wedding, and the Devils Own(a reverse on this one- liked the soundtrack so much I went out and rented the movie )
|
I have:
Reservoir Dogs Pulp Fiction Jackie Brown The Crow Also the score to "Dead Man Walking" |
Quote:
I also own: Reservoir Dogs, but I bought that long after I first saw the film. Virgin Suicides, never seen the film, but I'm a big fan of Air. And it turned out that 'Playground Love' was a song I'd been looking for for months. I love it when a plan comes together. Out of Sight, never seen this either, just picked it up cos I'd heard good things about David Holmes, and I also like the version of Watermelon Man on there. I have the special edition scores of Star Wars and Return of the Jedi too, but they're no-brainers. |
I have lots of soundtracks, but the only one I bought immediately after the film was the Empire Records soundtrack - and then I was disappointed because the songs I'd most liked weren't actually on the soundtrack except for one, which wasn't the version they actually used in the movie.
|
I love soundtracks. I can always listen to soundtracks and picture the scenes that the music's associated with.
Some of my faves: Zero Effect So I Married an Axe Murderer Pirates of the Caribbean The Princess Bride The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King (obligatory Disney quartet) Les Miserables Kim Possible Josie and the Pussycats Lost Boys ...many more, too many to list. I haven't heard the Spy Game soundtrack, but now that you mention it, I should totally pick it up. |
The Matrix
The Edge Star Wars |
13 Going on 30
Remember the Titans (awesome soundtrack) Sleepless in Seattle Forest Gump |
Oh I have Sleepless in Seatle too :) It's a really nice soundtrack, I listen to it often.
|
o brother where art thou?
this is the only soundtrack that i own |
Movies...
Daredevil Star Wars(All of them save for Episode II which I'll get soon) Mortal Kombat but I THINK this was before the movie was out and the game was big Anime Cowboy Bebop(I've got like three of these and they are pretty damn good. Excellent if you like Jazz. I listen to them at least once every two weeks I like them that much.) |
Somewhere in Time. Both the film and the music are beautiful.
|
angus - alt rock type music
beautiful girls - lovey dovey smooth talking music i know what you did last summer - rocking music |

<--- Consumer whore. |
The Bourne Supremecy
The Last Samurai The Rock Gone In 60 Seconds Shrek Toy Story Spiderman X-Men The Mask of Zorro |
off the top of my head:
Ravenous (listening to it right now, damon albarn is genius :p) Blade Runner 24 Hour Party People (cant go wrong with bits of ian curtis sprinkled throughout) Lost in Translation, perfect example of the soundtrack reminding one vividly of a film anime: Cowboy Bebop, goes without saying probably the most inspired anime soundtrack compiled, and certainly stands up to other original film scores in its own right. yokko kano is incredible. Ghost in the Shell, very interesting meld of contemporary influences and traditional japanese creations, very eery especially in the context of the film thats all for now [edit courtesy department of redundancy department] |
I have the Cowboy BeBop OAV soundtracks, the GitS soundtrack, the Disney animated Tarzan soundtrack, and the My Fair Lady soundtrack.
|
i haven't purchased a cd in a long time, but i have recently downloaded the soundtrack for Garden State. spectacular music, completely captures the mood of the movie. a must-have if the movie did anything for you.
|
Last one was Garden State.
|
After seeing Blade (on HBO) i've wanted to get the soundtrack... thanks for the reminder!
|
Solid soundtracks:
Dream with the Fishes Garden State Donnie Darko The Sopranos GoodFellas Son-in-law |
The sound tracks I have are
All the LOTR soundtracks THe Matrix Resident Evil End of days Spawn Star wars attack of the clones FLCL The LotR soundtracks I listen most out of all the soundtracks I own |
Some of my favorites:
Pulp Fiction Reservoir Dogs Gladiator Shawshank Redemption Midnight Cowboy The Big Chill Ghost Philadelphia Full Metal Jacket Goodfellas LOTR Casablanca (not really a soundtrack, but the theme of As Time Goes By running throughout the movie is a real standout) Shaft |
Im surprised no one has mentioned any of my three purchased soundtracks.
Requiem for a Dream One Hour Photo The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly They are all great. |
The film, the legend, the dude
The Big Lebowski |
The only movies that hsvr inspired me to go out and get the soundtrack are Grosse Pointe Blank, The Wedding Singer, and Pulp fiction.
However, the best soundtracks I have are The Mission and Conan. On my to get list: All 3 LOTR Gladiator Beetlejuice The score to MIB and Batman Last of the Mohicans |
i got
Office Space and Dracula 2000 (i downloaded it, its ok music nothing worth paying for though) i would have bought dazed and confused but those cds cost over 2x the cost of the freakin movie and i have most of the songs on the real cds anyway |
All 3 LOTR movies.
Gladiator Most stuff from John Williams Donnie Darko |
I was a naive adolescent consumer when I saw Liar Liar in the theaters and thought that it would be a novel idea to buy anything involving said movie. Well, I shelled out 14 bucks for a CD of which I thought would be the soundtrack to the movie. Only after I opened it did I really find out it was just the score to the movie, something at the time i was NOT interested in. It is now in some closet somewhere still in mint condition. One of the many stupid, impulse purchases I made when I was younger.
On the other hand, I bought the Daredevil soundtrack, which I still listen to a good deal even now, so the 2 sort of equal out. |
Quote:
Anyways, I've bought: -The Matrix Soundtrack (decent buy, really only like 3 or 4 songs though) -Bad Company Soundtrack (really only like 3 songs, but one of them is SO FUCKING GOOD it justifies the whole album) I've never really been big on soundtracks, but when they have good techno/classical mixes (the reason I bought both the ones I own), it just sucks me right in. |
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
|
Not a big soundtrack person but there where too I just had to have where:
Almost Famous Forest Gump |
Cocktail
Mortal Kombat American Pie 1 & 2 Swingers What Women Want |
Forest Gump
Moulin Rouge Braveheart City of Angels Spiderman That being said, I rarely buy soundtracks |
Garden State
American Pie 2 Forrest Gump Ocean's 11 |
Hackers
LOTR (all 3) The Nightmare Before Christmas The Passion (I've more, but those are the ones that really got me.) |
Garden State.
|
The soundtrack to "Garden State" captured the mood of the film very well. Excellent movie/Excellent soundtrack
|
I have never bought a movie soundtrack before, but if I were to buy one I would purchase the soundtrack to Requiem for a Dream. Just one song. But it's so damn addicting.
|
The Crow - Best Soundtrack ever
Pulp Fiction - Is just so cool. Singles - Crappy movie.... awesome soundtrack |
All the Tarantino soundtracks, of course.
The Hunt for Red October Collateral Twin Peaks (movie and television soundtracks) And word, the Requiem for a Dream Sountrack is amazing. |

I have very few soundtracks in my huge assortment of CDs, even though there are some great scores out there. But, I do listen to the soundtrack of the Last Temptation of Christ on a regular basis (but I'm a huge Peter Gabriel fan, anyway).
