So good you bought the soundtrack

Mephisto's post about the movie being so good you bought the DVD, doesn't really do much for me since going to the movies costs US$21 for me and the wife to attend. No popcorn or beverages.

So any movie that hits the US$19.99 mark, it's instantly something that makes sense to buy even if it's a crap movie because it's the same price without the annoying cellphone, crying child, and annoying tall person.

BUT, I can say there have been some times in my life where the soundtrack was just incredible. Sometimes where I left the theater, went straight to the record store and bought the CD.
(yes it kills me that the CD can cost the same as the DVD which I find inconceivable)e

Here's some of the soundtracks that I bought:

Little Mermaid (right after the movie)
Cocktail
Grosse Point Blank
Nightmare Before Christmas
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

Redlemon 02-06-2004 07:55 AM

Beetlejuice! I decided I need the soundtrack during the opening credits.

numist 02-06-2004 08:02 AM

The movies so good I bought the soundtracks:

snatch
the Italian Job
Oceans 11 (new)

I own those soundtracks, good soundtracks too. There are better movies, but you asked about soundtracks.

Cynthetiq 02-06-2004 08:05 AM

oooh.. I forgot ALL about Beetlejuice!!!!

mattevil 02-06-2004 08:06 AM

Dazed and Confused
Forrest Gump
SuperFly
High Fidelity
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Rushmore
Royal Tenenbaums

djflish 02-06-2004 08:56 AM

Most of my CD's seem to be soundtracks:

Blade
Blade 2
Godzila
Reservoir Dogs
The Beach
8 Mile
Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels
Ali G In Da House
Above The Rim
Friday
Juice

Averett 02-06-2004 09:57 AM

Glory

Love Actually

moonstrucksoul 02-06-2004 10:22 AM

Edward Scissorhands
Gladiator
and i want the LoTR soundtracks.

Hrothgar 02-06-2004 04:01 PM

Blade and A Clockwork Orange and I have no freakin idea why.
Oh yeah The Crow. Love that soundtrack

diergray 02-06-2004 04:06 PM

Kill Bill and The Thomas Crowne Affair had an excellent soundtrack.

synic213 02-06-2004 04:08 PM

Some of the sountracks I needed:

Hackers
Romy and Michelle's Highschool Reunion
The Wedding Singer
Supercop

But if you meant original movie score, I have to go with:

Last of the Mohicans
Glory
Braveheart
American Beauty

onodrim 02-06-2004 05:11 PM

Matrix and Matrix Reloaded
Gladiator
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Blade
Ocean's 11
Forrest Gump

I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of. I'm not gonna include the list of musicals and operas I own, thats a different kind of soudtrack and would take too long. :)

Kaos 02-06-2004 05:11 PM

It seems I have only bought one soundtrack ever, for the movie "Shocker."

I do have the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack that was given to me by a friend.

FoolThemAll 02-06-2004 05:41 PM

Just 2.

Return of the Jedi
Singles

And I've never even seen Singles. It's just a great grunge-era soundtrack, with one of Pearl Jam's top three songs.

Baldrick 02-06-2004 07:11 PM

Now you've hit a chord with me... I seem to have started collecting soundtracks and scores. :)

Of recent soundtracks, Kill Bill is excellent. As for my favorite alltime soundtrack, it's definitely a tie between The Lost Boys and Highlander.

ratbastid 02-06-2004 07:45 PM

The Matrix
Pi
Ghost in the Shell
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Amelie
LOTR (all three)

A good soundtrack is good if it can stand up in its own right. If listening to it doesn't necessarily evoke the film.

anleja 02-06-2004 07:49 PM

When I saw Casino, I wanted that soundtrack very badly, but I could not find it ANYWHERE.

I like the soundtrack to the movie Kids. It probably wouldn't sound half as good if I didn't see the movie.

Sleepyjack 02-07-2004 12:38 AM

The Shawshank Redemption.

Pretty much anything of Thomas Newman, and a lot of his stuff turns up everywhere.

Blade Runner: Vangelis

BraveHeart

Donnie Darko

Singles

...There are so many good mvoies with ambient stuff in it though, for which, i doubt, a sound track has been released.

CinnamonGirl 02-07-2004 02:36 AM

The Wedding Singer...and at the risk of everyone pointing and laughing, I went straight to the store from the theatre to buy the Josie & the Pussycats soundtrack. I love Kay Hanley's voice.

Oh--also went right from the theatre to the store for the Chicago soundtrack. I just recently caught Romy & Michele on TV, and decided I need that soundtrack, too. :)

EbolaVirus 02-07-2004 06:48 AM

Grosse Pointe Blank

holtmate 02-07-2004 09:38 AM

I ran out right after seeing both Grosse Point Blank and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrells to buy the soundtrack, but in both cases I had to wait till the next day. Needless to say, I was a little anxious for the release of both.

lucidity 02-07-2004 09:39 AM

Pulp Fiction
Lost Boys
Singles
Sleepless in Seattle (great lineup of older songs, Jimmy Durante, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong...)

Plan9Senior 02-07-2004 12:09 PM

Pulp Fiction is the only movie that inspired me to buy it's soundtrack.

Dilbert1234567 02-07-2004 12:40 PM

Pirates of the Caribbean is great as long as you have some big speakers, the bass is lost on smaller speakers, but it is incredible.

FleaCircus 02-07-2004 05:36 PM

The Spy Game soundtrack tops my list. The Sneakers soundtrack is really good, too.

bundy 02-07-2004 07:38 PM

Kill Bill
Unfaithful
Rules of Attraction
Trainspotting
Forrest Gump
Virgin Suicides

still to get...
American Pyscho

I'm so glad someone mentioned this. Awesome soundtrack. I think I'd decided to go out and find it within about ten minutes of the movie starting. And what a movie.

I also own:

Reservoir Dogs, but I bought that long after I first saw the film.

Virgin Suicides, never seen the film, but I'm a big fan of Air. And it turned out that 'Playground Love' was a song I'd been looking for for months. I love it when a plan comes together.

Out of Sight, never seen this either, just picked it up cos I'd heard good things about David Holmes, and I also like the version of Watermelon Man on there.

I have the special edition scores of Star Wars and Return of the Jedi too, but they're no-brainers.

thebigk 02-16-2004 09:21 AM

I have lots of soundtracks, but the only one I bought immediately after the film was the Empire Records soundtrack - and then I was disappointed because the songs I'd most liked weren't actually on the soundtrack except for one, which wasn't the version they actually used in the movie.

FngKestrel 11-11-2004 01:27 AM

I love soundtracks. I can always listen to soundtracks and picture the scenes that the music's associated with.

Some of my faves:
Zero Effect
So I Married an Axe Murderer
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Princess Bride
The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King (obligatory Disney quartet)
Les Miserables
Kim Possible
Josie and the Pussycats
Lost Boys
...many more, too many to list.

I haven't heard the Spy Game soundtrack, but now that you mention it, I should totally pick it up.

cartmen34 11-11-2004 06:30 AM

Lockjaw 11-11-2004 01:30 PM

Movies...
Daredevil
Star Wars(All of them save for Episode II which I'll get soon)
Mortal Kombat but I THINK this was before the movie was out and the game was big

Anime
Cowboy Bebop(I've got like three of these and they are pretty damn good. Excellent if you like Jazz. I listen to them at least once every two weeks I like them that much.)

Grancey 11-11-2004 04:47 PM

i was also disappointed in this soundtrack. the movie is awesome, but the sdtk let me down. i assume you are referring to the "sugarhigh" song with gina singing the third verse. do a limewire search and you should be able to find it

Konichiwaneko 11-11-2004 07:07 PM

Ravenous (listening to it right now, damon albarn is genius :p)
Blade Runner
24 Hour Party People (cant go wrong with bits of ian curtis sprinkled throughout)
Lost in Translation, perfect example of the soundtrack reminding one vividly of a film

anime:

Cowboy Bebop, goes without saying probably the most inspired anime soundtrack compiled, and certainly stands up to other original film scores in its own right. yokko kano is incredible.

Ghost in the Shell, very interesting meld of contemporary influences and traditional japanese creations, very eery especially in the context of the film

thats all for now

[edit courtesy department of redundancy department]

msf518 11-17-2004 12:08 AM

I was a naive adolescent consumer when I saw Liar Liar in the theaters and thought that it would be a novel idea to buy anything involving said movie. Well, I shelled out 14 bucks for a CD of which I thought would be the soundtrack to the movie. Only after I opened it did I really find out it was just the score to the movie, something at the time i was NOT interested in. It is now in some closet somewhere still in mint condition. One of the many stupid, impulse purchases I made when I was younger.

On the other hand, I bought the Daredevil soundtrack, which I still listen to a good deal even now, so the 2 sort of equal out.

-Bad Company Soundtrack (really only like 3 songs, but one of them is SO FUCKING GOOD it justifies the whole album)

I've never really been big on soundtracks, but when they have good techno/classical mixes (the reason I bought both the ones I own), it just sucks me right in.

Yeah I liked it for some reason. I guess because it was cheesy good to me like Fast Times and Breakfast club.

Cameron Crowe really studies how people act during that time period and it really reflects in his work.
