Ringu 2

I just watched the sequel to Ringu, it picks up RIGHT after the last movie ends, which is cool

Its scary as hell, i think im going to have nightmares.

If you can pick it up do it now... watch it with the lights off and be prepared to be scared shitless

They're far superior to the American version, though it's good and shot beautifully I think the original Ringu's are fantastic. The US one seemed to be made for people who don't want to figure things out for themselves (ie, people who don't like to think).

Correct Sir. That's why American remakes make me cringe. They are for people that get headaches reading subtitles.

The problem i noticed with Ringu 2 is that more often than not the subtitles would fall on someone in the foreground wearing light coloured clothing, or on something light coloured, so you couldnt always read what was being said.

Kinda frustrating, but if you concentrate you can do it

I had the same problem. It didn't have quite the same effect as in Goldmember though!

The American Ring is the only movie that has really truly scared me, I was totally freaking the night I saw it. Guess I'll have to check out the Japanese ones if they are as good as you guys say.

I find that most people who watch the US version first end up not liking the Japanese version, it's a pity because by all accounts the Japanese one is much better.

they dont like it because it's not "scary enough" for them.. and the special effects are kinda plain. Still the american ring scared me and i saw it first, but the japanese ringu gave me nightmares for MONTHS. I used to have a ring on my TV and it severely creeped me out at night...
*tries not to think about it*

As the problem with most asian vcd's. Try to get the DVD instead that usual lays the subs on top of the picture. Or if your lucky some vcd's out the subs off the video in the space between the movie and widescreen

hey i actually FOUND a copy of Ringu 0 at a DVD-eo store in Vancouver in the import section and i rented it.

It wasnt as scary as ringu 2, but it did give some very important back story for the other two.

See them in the order they were made though, Ringu, Ringu 2, Ringu 0...

And yes, i saw Ringu before the american version and i liked it much much more than the american version... the american version was just...... meh

I LOVE The Ring and very much enjoyed Ringu when I rented it.

The Japanese film's pacing is MUCH slower. Which really works in its favor--it builds suspense much more steadily than the US film. There are places where the story was Americanized--the ex husband no longer has weird psychic powers, for instance. While I loved the US version, the Japanese film was clearly superior.

On the other hand, Naiomi Watts.

Nuff said.

Yeah, I'd hit it, several times, can't wait to see her in King Kong!

p.s. she takes it off in Mulholland Drive too!

p.p.s. She's actually a fantastic actress too.

Naomi Watts is definitely a hottie, but I have to say the other actress in that film (the brunette) is much hotter. Ratbastid disagrees, but we'll just have to review the evidence a few more times to settle the dispute

I didn't think The Ring was that scary at all. While I was in the theater, there were certainly some suspenseful areas, but nothing like "what they said." It wasn't any scarier than the usual horror flick. People were like "the horse running off the boat!!OH MY GOD IT WAS SO SCARY!!" but I thought it was funny. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Signs was supposed to be scary too, but that was a joke. Excellent movie, but it was more sci-fi than horror/suspense.

What's really scrary is the effect it's had on my working life...

See I work at a brewery, and there's a machine that takes a picture of the top and bottom of each returned bottle and on the screen we can see it looks just like the ring. It still kinda disturbs me...

that is really freaky... those movies are very intense after first seeing them, and I can't imagine that sort of situation..

...
my favorite part of Ringu was the girl. a million gazillion times scarrier than the american girl. *shudders* ... I've been meaning to see Ringu 2 & 0 .. among many other insane japenese horror flicks..
