Looking for good movies
I'm looking for a list of movies that are from the sci-fi genre that are either post-apocalptpic or biblicial. Movies like fallen, stigmata, ninth gate, ect, or Mad Maxs, 28 days later, ect. What are some good movies in that genre that you know of. I have a list of the movies I have though of below but i'm looking for movies I haven't seen before.
Biblical/Demonic genre: Fallen, Stigmata, Ninth Gate, The Prophecy, Event Horriozon and The Golden Child. Post Apocolyptic genre: Mad Maxes, 28 Days Later, Waterworld and The Postman. If you know any other good movies in either of these genres please post them here. |
12 Monkeys is a good post apocalyptic movie. I'm having trouble thinking of any others right now. If I think of any I'll come back to this thread.

Yeh I meant to add that to my list but my memory is really poor right now

Equilibrium!
It's post WW3, and civilization has been rebuilt in a Fahrenheit 451 kind of way. Christian Bale is a wicked bad ass in the movie. |

i liked 28 days...

i haven't seen 28 days later yet. I'm mostly looking for movies in that genre I haven't seen so i can decide if I like them or not.

Theres this one movie, about this serial killer that kinda looks like Jesus. He builds this arc like Noah did. It didnt make it to the theater. I remeber it was on HBO. Whatever its called, thats a good one. That movie is scary as hell.

The Order is a new movie in the biblical genre. It is a dark catholic movie ala stigmata. I am watching it as I write this, and it is worth a watch or two.
|
For biblical, there's The Rapture: hardly a special effect in the whole thing, but extremely creepy.
There are actually a zillion post-apocalyptic movies, because they can be cheap to make. Most are bad, of course. A surprising number are comedies or have some humorous elements. Some ideas that go back a few years: A Boy and His Dog, Night of the Comet, Blade Runner (sort of) Cherry 2000 (one of those cheap ones, for sure) Reign of Fire (boring, but there it is) Escape from New York (good) Escape from LA (not so good) The Bed Sitting Room (weird and British) Day of the Triffids -- old, but worth it for the blind pilot trying to land an airliner. |
Equilibrium had a decent twist on things.
Definitely worth watching on a boring evening. ;) |

Six String Samurai....kick ass post apocalptpic flick....in a world where Elvis is king....
|
oh lord. Six String Samurai was funny for being awful, but not really worth watching. Equilibrium continues to be garbage.
There's always the film version of The Stand, which isn't great, but is definitely post-apocalyptic. SciFi channel's original movie Deathlands with Traci Lords was horrifying, if low-rent. Nobody listed Exorcist in the biblical category... |
I'd also recommend Equilibrium, great matrix style movie.
|
I absolutley loved EQ when I first saw it but the other day I was flicking through scenes on the home theatre and was shocked at how cheesy it was... I have to watch the whole thing again but there was undeniably a surreal amount of cheese in the film.

don't forget planet of the apes!

matrix is one too... right? if 12 monkeys is in this list, then so is Terminator 1 , 2 and 3. enjoy! |
Equilibrium had it's heart in the right place, but the budget just didn't allow it to be what it wanted to be. Christian Bale is awesome. So is Sean Bean.
|
Only movie I can think of that isnt listed already is End of Days. Alot of people probably don't like it because Arnold is in it, but I thought it was good.
