21 Grams - Review
21 Grams - the weight the human body loses the moment you die.
Went to see this last night and I still don't know what to think. Do I like it or not? It's the story of three people who have nothing in common, but who's lives become intertwined more deeply than the viewer could imagine. A reformed con turned Bible thumper makes a bad decision and kills Watts' husband and two girls in a hit and run accident. Penn, who is waiting for a heart transplant, gets the husband's heart and is driven to find the widow. Both of them in turn are driven to find the convict and exact revenge. In the end, all three find redemption. Naomi Watts and Shawn Penn turn in great performances, (perhaps the best role I've seen him in), and the movie is well made and but the editing kept me on the edge of my seat and not necessarily in a good way. The problem; it was not a linear story. The director jumped around his time line, showing Watts and Penn having sex, then before they meet, then later, etc. But all things considered, it is worth seeing. 21 Grams Starring Shawn Penn and Naomi Watts 3 of 5 stars

Heard it's one of those movies that anally rapes you three times over then spits on your cowering body on the floor, ie, really harsh and unremorseful. As big a fan I am of that kinda approach to cinema I don't think I could watch it, I want to come out of the theatre thinking "Wow, that was a fantastic film!" for something like this I think I'll be more like "Shit, I feel like crap, I need to go watch Delerious by Eddie Murphy to get it out of my system!".

I recently saw this movie and I think it really is a fantastic film. The performances are all top-notch, as to be expected. It may deal with dark subject matter and may not be for everyone, but if you generally like movies that make you think and don't sugarcoat reality, you'll love this movie.
I was also mixed about the nonlinear editing, but I think it works because it keeps you on your toes, looking for things you might miss in a normal linear movie. I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars. |

I might see it. Naomi Watts is really hot. Wait, was she the main character in The Ring, if so, I'll see it.

One word: Gritty. And I thought Benicio Del Toro's performance was even better than Naomi Watts or Sean Penn.
