Alright the local Brew & View theatre was supposed to start showing this back in October, but then it got pushed back. Their web site said they hadn't received the tape from a theatre in Ohio. Then a couple of weeks later all info disappeared from the web site. I was totally pissed becuase I'm a Bruce Campbell fan and was looking forward to it. But now it's back on their site and says they will be showing it the last 2 weeks of January.
So my questions; has anyone seen this? Is it any good? (Without spoiling it for me?) Does anyone care? I know there are a few other Bruce Campbell fans out there. |

Ebert gave it a good review! So did IGN, but I don't trust the film critic at IGN very much. I do trust Ebert, though, so if I get a chance I'll definitely see it. The trailer made it look dumb as hell, but trailers can only do three things: make the move look better than it is; make it look worse than it is; or have no impact on the viewer at all.

I've seen it....It's well worth checking out. It's no Citizen Kane, but it's pretty entertaining while trying to be more than just entertaining (there's a lot of sadness running through the movie), and both Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis are really great--if you like Bruce Campbell, he's at his best here. Plus, kind of amazingly, it doesn't insult your intelligence: to give one example--skip this part if you don't want to know anything about the movie, though this is a very minor part that doesn't give anything away--JFK's room is made up to look like the Oval Office. A lowest-common-denominator Hollywood director would've included lines of dialogue to make sure that everyone in the audience knew exactly what the Oval Office is and why it's funny that JFK's room looks like it, but Don Coscarelli (Bubba's director) doesn't refer to it once, letting the audience figure out the joke for itself.
And oh yeah, a lot of it is really, really funny....Ultimately, it's a really solid movie. Not perfect, but definitely not a waste of time, either. Bonus fun: I saw Bruce Campbell in Decatur IL at a theater that was showing Army of Darkness, and afterward he signed copies of his book and other stuff--for five hours. The fact that so many people know him in small-town Illinois is one thing; the fact that the guy would stick around until something like 3am to make sure everyone had a chance to meet him says a lot about his appreciation of his fans. Granted that most of these fans were buying his stuff, but still, nice guy, that Bruce.... |

I desperately want to see it, just haven't had the time. It was fairly easy to find here in the LA area when it first was released, hopefully it still is now. If worse comes to worse, I'll rent the DVD.
