The Last Samurai - Loved it!
I am generally not a fan of Tom Cruise movies, but this (along with Return of the King) was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Extremely well done in every way. Highly recommended.
Awesome, I have yet to see this one but am hanging out for it like crazy, but that's just me and my facination with Japan and the Samurai.
It was good.... was expecting something a bit deeper though.
It was better than I thought it would be
not a philosophical masterpiece (agree with ChrisJericho), but it was still good. visually stunning. emotionally powerful (though formulaic). and the music! Hans Zimmer has done it again.
Just a reminder, use the spoiler tags if you're going to use spoilers. About the score, is it Japanese influenced or just the standard Hans fanfare (not that that is a bad thing).
I've heard it called "Dances with Wolves....in Japan."
Is this a good indication of what I'm getting myself into in? I really like Dances with Wolves, but I don't really like Tom Cruise. However, I be willing to plunk down some cash if it's comparable to Dances with Wolves. Did I mention I like Dances with Wolves? |
the score has japanese influence yes, including some classical instruments. but it's also the same forceful and ebbing movements that zimmer loves so much.
dances with wolves would not be totally off as a comparison yeah. |

This same description came up after I saw it with my friends. :hmm: |

I promise to get out of your mind, if you promise to stay out of mine....:) Good, I am pleased it is similar to Dances with Wolves. I'm sure I'll be able to compress my blinding white hot rage at Tom Cruise into a little bitter ball and enjoy this movie. Excellent. :) |
After a crapfest month of movies, I almost went on overload because of seeing this and ROTK within a week. Best week of movies in a long time.
Oh, and Cruise did an amazing job with this movie, if you ask me. I can't really think of many that would have done it better, since emotional acting of his part would make or break the non action side of the flick. |
I enjoyed it. ROTK was better, but even making that comparison shows how much I liked it.
I saw this movie tonight, and to my suprise I actually enjoyed it. This was the first time I've had a chance to make it to the movies in awhile, and I was glad I wasn't disappointed with another lack-luster film. I thought the acting was excellent by everyone involved and the battle scenes were great.
If you haven't seen it, you should. |
Loved the movie myself; however, I wish they ended it about 15 mins earlier. Did'nt care much for the ending.
Didn't ruin my enjoyment of the film though. |
By today’s standards it is a great movie. Really rates at about 7/10, which is pretty much the best one can expect out of Hollywood now days...
i think that it was a bit weak until the point where they went to Spoiler: rescue the samurai leader and from then on it was brilliant. If it had been that strong the entire time it would be in my all-time top 10. It's not though.
Jan 9th here, can't wait.
Just saw it, Great movie...!!
I agree with intecel; I'm not a fan of Cruise, but this was a great movie!
Saw this movie a last week. Really enjoyed it. I think it was one of my top 3 movies for 2003.
Thought the acting was really good by all members of the cast. Storyline was pretty interesting. The battle seems were amazing! |
This movie had some badass fight scenes. I saw it the night it came out, would have gotten 4 stars but Tom Cruise still can't act his way out of a paper bag.
Other then the end where Tom tries to expand his "acting range", for the most part you forget that it's a Tom Cruise flick.
Quite well done and kudos to Ken Wantabe for stealing the movie. I liked the fact that they didn't Hollywood-ize most of the kenjutsu sequences. All the actions sequences were quite authenthic and well done. Only one thing that bugged me EDIT: Can't get the tags working but the bit at the kabuki play. Any Meiji era affictionado should know what I'm talking about. /rant off EDIT-freakin spolier tags |
[SPOILER] Vader Dies! [/SPO I LER]
I really didn't like it. I really didn't sorry for any of the characters in the end and the action was dull.
I want to see it I have not yet I think it will be good but Cruse is still gay.
Cruise isn't gay, don't be upset just because he's had far more hotter women than any of us could ever hope for.
I just got back from seeing the film. Wow. This film is legendary, quite frankly, if Akira Kurosawa were still alive today this would be the film he'd make. Absolutely fantastic, brought about more tears than ROTK did. I may be biased though since I love pre-modernisation Japan so much and this particular time of the Samurai really struck a chord with me. |
Yeah, I just watched it, I liked it, very good
One of the most entertaining movies in the last year.
