It's a fake. the domain is registered to 20th Century Fox, so I'm guessing it's a promo for a movie or something. It's very well done, but it also just uses buzzwords to make it seem realistic.
Pretty cool, though. Itchy93

I've read the various features, and one part really bothers me - everything the robot sees and hears is transmitted to the Universal Retention Network... Big Brother, anyone?
This also reminds me of a few scenes in the Animatrix... here you have a machine that can lift 800 pounds, and is designed to be your personal butler. You've got 3 prime directives designed to keep humans safe. What is there's a bug? Watch the hilarity ensue as the machine rips your brains out! Woohoo! ![]() Seriously though, if its for real, then serious strides in AI and robotics have been made without me ever hearing of them. I wish these engineers best of luck, because even if we are not ready for household robots today, tomorrow our kids might gladly use them.

someone linked me and said they found the link on CNN.com, but i remain skeptical. all the pictures look rendered, the business sounds made up, and when I saw "positronic brain" I figured it was a joke. The only thing that looked believable was the use of electronic muscle fibers.
but if they haven't yet perfected voice recognition software, we're decades away from having an android servant. Bicentennial Man, anyone?

It's a promo for the movie about to debut. It's still cool to dream, however!

I, Robot; Caves Of Steel; Bicentennial Man; Robots of Dawn; Robots and Empire; all of the Norby stories: Isaac Asimov was one of the greatest writers of all time. And his robot books were just a small fraction of his total work, both fiction and non-fiction.
If 20th Century Fos is presuming to make a film.... it had better be GREAT!

It's based on the short story by Phillip K Dick, his stroies have been made into classic films suchas Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) and Minority Report. I have high hopes for this film, especially since Goyer as at it's helms however I just hope Will Smith acts in this film, we all know just how good he can be when he puts the effort in and stops being Mr. MTV.
The episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air where his father comes back after so many years demonstrates just how brilliant his acting can be. Last edited by Mr.Deflok; 12-29-2003 at 12:42 PM.. |

Man, I'm really looking forward this. I've just recently got into Asimov's work, and I'm loving all of it. Making my way through I, Robot as we speak.
Anyone know which particular book (story?) this movie is based on? Quote:

I'm hoping it's not based on any of the books, since there areso much derivative material from Asimov (and the whole Robots, Empire and Foundation works) that maybe it'll be a better way to get new people interested, and then they can decide how Asimov-flavored they want to be by reading his and other authors works.
I think most of his stuff would be difficult for the movies, tho, because there's a lot of grand scale implications and internal thinkings of the characters at work. But I'll give it a try. Can't be much worse than Bad Boys 2. Seeing the different mindset a society is in, once there are humaniod servants everywhere could be challenging for an actor. It could be a great way of showing how close to slavery we are really comfortable with, when it's all around us. Re-reading the entire Foundation series is top of the retirement to-do list. A good month long session of Galactic Civ after that........ |

I, Robot is the name of the movie? Didn't they made one already back in the 40 or 50s? I thought it wasn't allowed for 2 movies to have same name...

I'd be willing to put a large sum of money down that that is actually a gimmick site to promote the upcoming "I, Robot" movie.
I only wish Wil Wheaton would have gotten the part in it ![]()

Of course, it's a marketing ploy. But, what would you do if you had one? I'd have it digging me a swimming pool in the back yard. Then again, the thing would probably cost a helluva lot more than just paying for the pool iteslf.

Yeah, it's gonna be a movie, but outside of that normal stuff of forced labor to be used at my whim............
I would ask it to tell me how much I have become enslaved to my laziness and cowardice, as compared to his lack of rebellion. Then the argument begins, the tea is set and I finally have something more mindless than TV to watch. 15 minutes after that I would have it find a way to get Alicia Rhodes to be faithful to me while I fillm her in bukkake videos. The animal inside of me could be less of a horror than the animal I strive to become. |

Teaser site, I worry about this movie. I hear it's basically the title of the book, nothing else. Maybe the names of the characters as well. We'll see.

One more thing. I fervently hope that when the real thing is created, the manufacturers remember to include the 3 Laws in every one of those suckers.

Anyone know if the movie is based on Asimov? Or am I way off base here?
