Here is another nit-picky thing:
Spoiler: The chip that prevented the arms from taking over Doc Ocs body was protected by the material used to protect the most valuable equipment, a thing piece of GLASS. You would think they would protect it with something more and embed it into the spinal cord, but then again the foreshadowing of having it in glass basically flat out said that the arms will take control of him.

raimi said he's not sure if he'll do a fourth, either. it depends on whether or not he's still excited to do it, if he's not he won't. i would assume maguire and dunst would tend to shy away from a fourth as mentioned just because as an actor no one wants to be typecast as that role. once you're stuck in a role like that and so well known for it, you're unlikely to be recognized as anything else.

one of the reasons sean connery got out of bond, and it's a damn good thing he did, too. people are shying away from the superman role because no one wants be known for one role.

it's not like tobey's so die-hard about this role either. they had to CONVINCE him to come back and play the role, they'd already given it to someone else (Jake Gyllenhaal, who incidentally is going out with Kirsten Dunst).

I just saw this and I'm not really a comic book fan, but I absolutely loved it. Great story, great acting (except for some of the one liners like mentioned before), Kirsten is just HOT. I can't wait to see the 3rd.

Key,

His powers were fading in and out. Hence the wall slippage, the web misfires, the fuzzy vision. Remeber, he put on his glasses right after he tripped. When he was back together, he saw things fuzzy with his glasses and took them off.

All, in all, I liked the movie. I'm sure there were places were it diverged wildly from the comic, but I read them when they were 12 cents and it been a looooong time.

I think Raimi did a great job with it.

Just got back from it.

Thought it was pretty good. I think a merger between Spidey 1 and 2 will yield the end all be all Spidey movie in 3. I was all for the conflict Peter had with himself going into the movie, but was dissappointed to see such a high amount of "petulant child" in him during it.

The train sequence has got to be the best action sequence of the year, already.

Definately gets my vote for the best superhero movie to date (I'll still stick with X2 for the best comic book movie though).

i'll agree with that. i was pleasantly surprised, i didn't think it was possible to do a train action sequence and not have it totally cliched out. i mean there've been countless movies that've done it, and when the scene started i was afraid it might be lame or use too many already-done moves. i should have known i'd be wrong.

Just got back and could not wait to register my disappointment on the internet, as CBG would say.
Crap, and I love comic book movies, including the first Spider-Man. Things I liked:
Dafoe's cameo (good rhyme)
The main fight between Spidey and Ock. Very well done.
Bruce Campbell.

Things I didn't like:
The OR scene. Particularly grotesque, though appropriate for Raimi.
Face-distorting screams from all the actors, especially Maguire on the train. Keep the mask on, buddy.
Needlessly patronizing exposition on topics like the inhibitor chip and Peter's duty as Spider-Man.
Attempts at humor that feel very flat, like Peter constantly reaching for food or drink on trays at the party or struggling interminably with the broom closet at the beginning.

Etc. Crap, dreck, disappointing.

I saw it a few nights ago and thought it was fantastic! This coming from someone who thought the original Spiderman was just "ok", definately not deserving of all it's hype and money.

What made this film work so well was the actors, Ock could've been played in the same vain as Gobby but Molina pulled him off beautifully, I adored the scene where he's in the river "I CONTROL YOU!". Toby Maguire too is great, he may not be like the Peter Parker I'm used to from the comics (back when I still read 'em) but he plays the part convincingly. With that said Jonah Jameson is perhaps the most perfectly portrayed character, I would never be able to tell the difference between his comic form and his film.

There are so many reasons why this film is so great, and you guys have mentioned them nearly all, I still don't think it's as great as some of you are saying but it is still definately a work of art.

BTW, the Alex Ross title sequence owned me.

Saw it Monday night, and it just might be the best movie I've seen this year....wait, wait....it IS the best movie I've seen this year.

I liked the fact that the superhero gets unmasked so many times. It sets it apart from all the other superhero, mystical man with superpowers types of movies. Now everybody who is close to him knows who he is. It'll make 3 VERY interesting IMO.

I saw it a couple of times, and my only complaint is how Spiderman took off his mask during the train fight scene. Other than that the fucking movie was awesome, and I absolutley loved it, and so did my girlfriend who hates comics. I just hope in part 3 the Green Goblin loses that stupid exoskeleton, or whatever it was. And I hope that Connors turns into Lizard. Most people have no clue that Lizard was actually introduced in part 2. And we all know that Doc Oc isn't dead.

I know everyone wants to see the Venom, but there's too many great villains that came way before him. I'd love to see Kraven, Vulture, or even Rhino before Venom.

I think the symbiotes are too far into the series for them to be incorporated into part 3, or even part 4 without rushing it. Eddie Brock was mentioned once, fucking once, in the first movie, and there are way too many different villains out there who haven't been covered yet for Venom to be introduced yet. My feeling is that they'll somehow twist Harry playing the part of the Hobgoblin or something like that into controlling the Sinister Six. I only say this because the Kingpin seems to have been roped into a Daredevil-only universe of movies, and unless crossover-comic-movies become the next big thing before Spider-Man 3. Who knows though? It just seems obvious that Harry is definitely going to be doing something villainous in the next movie.

Saw it yesterday. Great movie and really enjoyed it. I found that it was a lot better than the first one. His spiderman suit looked great in this one. I found that the way they introduced the next goblin as Harry Osbourne was kind of tacky. Wish they would have at least made it a bit more clever.

Really liked how the tentacles ultimately took control over Doc Oc. Was very interesting and created an multi-dimensional character. Very cool.

But other than that, thought it was a fantastic movie. Can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

One more thing, hopefully MJ is still alive and with Peter at the end of the next movie. The cartoon episodes had MJ trapped in a time travel thingy. Seems like their love would be too good to last though. But we'll see.

Yeah, I hate to break it to ya, but, they get divorced in the comics, or rather "separated", whatever. I still laugh at the fact that all the normal people in these movies are so surprised at what happens in the Marvel Universe New York, c'mon, superheroes battling supervillains oughta be a common occurrence, what with the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, The Punisher, etc. all in the neighborhood, it should be like living next to the airport by now; disturbing at first, and now just kinda, eh, it's there. Oh well, hopefully the third one will have all the other villains in it that we hope for, except Venom, that needs to be saved for an entire movie.

well actually...

Spoiler:
a little bit ago, not sure when exactly but within the last year, J. Michael Straczynski who's working on Amazing Spider-Man had a huge buildup to issue #50 (490, renumbering).

the issue was supposed to resolve the Peter/M.J. struggles, and to make a final, momumental decision on their relationship. were they going to stay together? were they going to split up? excellent writing, i heard all the hype and started reading the backstory around issue #45. the writing's probably some, if not the best dialogue i've ever seen in a comic book. if you've ever been a Spidey fan, you owe it to yourself to check out the last issue of this arc.

this is also around the time that Aunt May finds out out that Peter is Spider-Man. Amazing how they work it out, too. Some damn good reading if you're a Spider-Man fan. It got me back into reading Spider-Man after like, years. JMS just freaking rules.

Yeah, that too, a lot of the superheroes don't like him. Wolverine at first hated his guts cuz he was such a cocky bastard, not to mention the fact that he pretty much insulted mutants when he was trying to keep from becoming the mutated Spider. Human Torch hates his guts with a passion, and the rest of the FF could really care less for him. He always got off on the wrong foot with The Punisher. It took Daredevil a while to warm up to him. The Avengers didn't care for him because he was too much of a loner and wasn't a "team player". Nick Fury, well, Nick just hates everybody. The Hulk, well he's The Hulk, he smashes things. Captain America didn't really like him, mainly because he was the head of The Avengers and didn't like the way Spidey handled some things. So yeah, Spidey's not too popular with all of the public, superheroes included.

Actually, Spidey is a fairly good freind of the human torch, and the rest of the FF for that matter.

Interestingly enough though, he seems to get along real well with Dr. Strange. A man of science and a man of magic working well together is interesting to me.

Anyway, I loved the movie.

I just saw it tonight and thought it was better than the first, as all my friends had hyped it up to be.

During the last part I kind of zoned out thinking about the 3rd and 4th one... there is definitely going to be Harry as Hob-goblin in the next movie. I was thinking there would also be Conners turning into Lizard. Then they would introduce Eddie Brock more in the 3rd one and have the 4th one with Venom and then Spawn. Or maybe make a 5th one with Venom and Spiderman teaming up against Spawn.

I really wish they would be able to introduce other characters like Daredevil and the Punisher but that's probably not going to happen....

edi - not spawn. carnage. the other symbiote. oops.

In-fucking-credible movie.

I've been working my ass off the last two weeks and sheltered myself from all of the hype, but today I went over to the theatre and saw it.

I've never picked up a Spiderman comic in my life, but from a cinimatic standpoint what Sam Raimi has done with these characters is brilliant.

Someone at work told me the other day they didn't like it because there wasn't enought action. That's probably one of the reasons I DID like it. There was so much emotion in this movie that there were times when the whole superhero element took backstage.

Smart script, great camera work (both real and CGI) and an engaging story.

Spawn is 'Image comics' and in no way affiliated with Marvel except that McFarlane, the Spawn creator, used to draw Spider-Man around the time of Venom's first story.

I saw it last night and i thought it was really cool. I'm unsure wich one i liked most, but 2 has significant more character developement, wich i liked. Maybe a bit too much of the romantic interest and too little of the friendship between Parker and 'the green goblins son'... We'll just have to check in for part 3 i guess.. And the action is, well, almost perfect. Ace film! I think even my girlfriend will like it! (going again next week....)

A while back I read that they were going to change the Eddie Brock to Venom origin by making Jameson's son go to the moon, bring back the Symbiote and become Venom. There was another story where The symbiote would return with Jameson and infect his best friend, Brock. Who knows but I sure as heck would love to see Venom in S3, he'll be pretty difficult to pull off in CG but then again we're looking at a 2007 release.
