AFI's 100 Years... 100 Songs

There are lots of great music moments in film. Here are a few I was especially glad to see get nominated. As Times Goes By - Casablanca Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing - Eyes Wide Shut The Bare Necessities - The Jungle Book Big Bottom - This is Spinal Tap Blame Canada - South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut Bohemian Rhapsody - Wayne's World Come What May - Moulin Rouge The End - Apocalypse Now Eye of the Tiger - Rocky III Friend Like Me - Aladdin Gangsta's Paradise - Dangerous Minds Gonna Fly Now - Rocky Hakuna Matata - The Lion King I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow - O Brother, Where Art Thou? Over the Rainbow - The Wizard of Oz The Power of Love - Back to the Future Rainbow Connection - The Muppet Movie Shout - National Lampoon's Animal House Stuck in the Middle With You - Resevoir Dogs The Time Warp - Rocky Horror Picture Show Tiny Dancer - Almost Famous Twist and Shout - Ferris Bueller's Day Off Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah - Song of the South I'm not sure how many of these will make the final list. I'm certain As Time Goes By and Over the Rainbow probably will. If not Over the Rainbow, then another song from Wizard of Oz probably will. But I'm curious to see how many rock songs will make the list compared to the Broadway musical type songs and love songs. Personally, I think the Blues Brothers were a little underrated in the nominations. I saw them in there for Think, but I would like to see Shake a Tailfeather, Everybody Needs Somebody, and Minnie the Moocher on there as well. What are your thoughts? Can you think of others that should have made the nominations? |

Off hand I can't think of any other songs that should be nominated. The show sounds fun, the only thing I don't like about these types of shows is when they put the songs in order. I always disagree with the numbering. That a side this does sound a like a fun night.

Pretty good show, but I kept wanting to watch the movies as the songs came up. It was no surprise to me that "Over the Rainbow" and "As Time Goes By" took #1 and #2, but I was somewhat surprised how many tunes from Singing in the Rain were there. I certainly expected the title tune, but they also had "Make Them Laugh" and "Good Morning!" there. Also NOT a surprise was the dominance of Judy Garland. Ah, such a sad sad life. RIP, Judy.

I enjoyed the show -- brought me back to my childhood. My dad watched musicals non-stop and LOVES Barbara Striesand.
My girls enjoyed the show too and we developed a list of movies to watch as a result. I think they were surprised how many songs I was able to sing (if you can call what I do singing) along too.
