No doubt. :p

I think the fact that they are going nuts means they won't really give a damn. Solid ground, fresh air and the reasonable expectation of safety would far outweigh the evidence of Baltar's collusion, in my humble opinion.

Anyway, enough of that. I guess we'll find out tomorrow night! :)

Spoiler: Well that's scary news. If they do shoot forward one year, this could mean that Earth is on for next season. Frankly, I'd prefer to see the whole story of President Baltar, though. Skipping that much would deprive Baltar fans of more awkward moments when Six mucks with him.
Well, it's got several Galactica boards in an uproar. Spoiler: Like I said, (or at least I think I said..) I think Moore can probably pull this off. Carnivale took some fairly big leaps in the timeline as well, if I remember correctly, and I never really had a problem with that. If anything I think that if this jump forward happens, it'll give the writers an opportunity to shake things up a bit...drop storylines that really aren't working and maybe introduce some stuff right now that would take seasons upon seasons to put together following the traditional way they've handled the timeline so far.

I am really, really anxious to see what happens tomorrow night...

Buk 03-10-2006 01:40 PM

Season finale tonite, I am stoked!

How is the team of raptor jocks and marines going to get the survivors off Caprica?

Who wins the election?

Do the Sharon #1 and Six #1 make it alive and start a cylon rebellion?

Hmm...

pixelbend 03-10-2006 01:49 PM

I'll go on record to predict that we won't know who won the election until the beginning of Season 3. There, I said it.

thesupermikey 03-10-2006 08:34 PM

Spoiler: ill hold off...but can i say...this is the way TV was meant to be???

crossova 03-10-2006 08:34 PM

Wow what a finale. I won't even put up a spoiler...season 3 will remind me of the old scifi series "V"...

Willravel 03-10-2006 08:43 PM

I have to admit I'm in shock. Too much awesome writing to process at once. Spoiler: Now we have to wait for October for the resistence to begin.

Spoiler: what a great way to keep the show fresh. I mostly cant wait to see the breaded Chief kick some ass. His speech the the union members..fucking great stuff.

the gods this is a great show

Fremen 03-10-2006 11:17 PM

Damn, what a season finale! Spoiler: Near the end, it put me in mind of the concentration camps of Germany.
I'll add more later when I recharge.

Great show!

Mondak 03-11-2006 09:53 AM

I am going to break all this spoiler tag mayhem. I mean it is Saturday and if you haven't watched it yet, you should not be in this thread if you want a surprise.

Well - yup that is a way to keep the storyline fresh. I really liked the shot of Adama walking down the very quiet corridor and checking out the disrepair similar I believe to the first episode of the Mini-series. Classic.

So are we finally going to see some merit in Tigh next season? I mean really - he has done very little to endeer himself to both the fleet or the watcher. They did that whole "people can change" thing with him to Starbuck who seems to like him now. WTF. Maybe we see Chief run for office or something. Prolly he will just run the rebellion.

Now the thing I like most is the struggle feel of the fleet. I mean after the Pegasus showed up they had lots of modern fighters, and the tide was seeming to turn their direction. All the staff of the fleet gets pressed into service building "New Caprica" and the Galactica starts to show her age again. She was looking downright young before this.

Gonna have to ditch some ships or at least hide them maybe so you can staff the Gallactica and the Pegasus. Seems like they don't have enough people. Roughly the same number of ships (not sure how many went with Cloud 9 if any or the number of people who died) but there are roughly 39k on the ground. That would leave maybe 12-15k aboard the same number of ships. Seems beyond a skeleton crew to me.

I have lots to say, but here is one way to sum it up: I like when TV makes me think. I have been trying to devine what they were going to do for a solid week. I stayed up for hours last night trying to figure out what they were going to do next after I was done watching the episode. Lots of different threads. Lots of different ideas.

BTW, money plays that Duella and Anders are dead halfway through next season or so.

^^^
has some kinda-spoilers. Moore talks about the future of the show.
has anyone listened to the podcasts? are the safe from season 3 spoilers?

MoonDog 03-12-2006 06:54 PM

I just downloaded the final podcast of the season, and will listen to it while at work. I like to wait a few days to let the episode stew in my head befire I hear what the producers were aiming for.

I THINK I like the new direction that Season 3 will take. Lots and lots of places for the show to go, and at the same time provides some relief from the "gotta find Earth" storyline.

kutulu 03-13-2006 08:02 AM

All I can say is way to go Baltar, you fucked everything up again. First you let the Cylons take over all your worlds and then once you are finally away from them you give a cylon a nuke and what does she do? Not much, just blow up half the fleet and leave behind a radioactive signature that allows the Cylons to find you and take over your people... again.

The guy has to be the smartest idot ever. How can anyone have any respect for his character?

stevie667 03-14-2006 02:23 PM

*shakes fist*

There was me going and thinking we'd have lots of space stuff, and they go and throw in a planet...again.

This better be good.

guthmund 03-17-2006 06:22 AM

Well, it's been about a week since the season finale and I realize I really don't have an opinion on the big leap forward.

In the beginning of the episode I cared very much. I watched the show (I thought it was pretty good, by the way :) ) and kept muttering to myself, "This leap thing...better be good....stab Moore with my spoon....schmuck.) But when it came....I don't know. "Hmmm," I muttered.

I'll miss the comfortable familiarity of the way things were, but this opens up dozens of different storylines and that's pretty great.

Some random thoughts on the episode...

I probably would have stolen the election. It's a horrible thing to say, but if saving humankind is first priority and with the learning curve as steep as it is...I probably would've tried to steal the election as well. Especially since Roslin knew that Baltar was a bad guy...

How great was it that Mr. I'm-going-to-rat-out-my-CO-and-try-to-score-points-with-the-old-man-because-I'm-a-big-fat-opportunist Gaeta was saddled with the responsibility of keeping Baltar in line and happy?

Brother Cavill. That scene where he meets his duplicate in the brig was pure gold.

Frak Sharon. Throw her treacherous ass out an airlock. That's some sound advice.

Did anyone recognize the bits and pieces of Tyrol's speech at the union hall? It sounded awfully familiar, but I wasn't for certain until I listened to the podcast.

Speaking of the podcast...

Edward James Olmos won't be back for next season. I don't know what that means really. I mean he'll have to be in the first couple of episodes if only to kill him off, right? They really can't make Galactica just disappear...Battlestar Pegasus? Anyone?

Brother Cavill will be back.

And there was some joking around, so, it's kind of hard to determine if these guys were serious or not in some places.

For instance, they hinted that next season is going to start 5 years from the season finale.
They kept talking about Sharon's whereabouts after the timeline leap. (Remember Helo was still on Galactica running the CIC) and how interesting it was.

I think you're absolutely right, Mondak. Anders is dead before the end of next season. If Dualla dies, it's going to be after Anders because that's one very nice little story there to play with. Does chunky Lee go back to the girl he's always loved or the exotic eyed beauty playing XO?

Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to season 3...maybe even more than season 2.

Mondak 03-17-2006 10:13 AM

Guthmund: No Adama! WTF??? Really.

seriously?

MoonDog 03-17-2006 02:35 PM

Did I miss that on the podcast? Adama go bye-bye?!

thesupermikey 03-17-2006 03:12 PM

the press release about season 3 said the whole cast was returning
with Lucy Lawless returning as a regualer.

guthmund 03-17-2006 08:32 PM

I knew that one was going to bite me in the ass, but it was just too good not to write....

Eick and Moore were having a bit of fun and I, apparently, am an idiot. ;)

During the scene with Adama, Roslin and the two Cavills, they mention that Cavill is coming back. Then Eick says something along the lines of "we should probably mention that Eddie won't be." Moore counters with the notion of an all CGI Adama as a replacement. I kind of guessed the CGI Adama thing was a crock because...you know...it's really, really stupid, but Eick lumped Olmos' leaving with the return of Cavill, which is true, and that kind of confused me.

I probably should have watched Eick's video blog thing before listening to Moore's podcast. Eick did some stupid shit in that too.

My apologies, gents.

As you were. :)

Willravel 03-17-2006 10:33 PM

So Master Edward James Olmos, His holyness, will be returning, then?

MoonDog 03-18-2006 05:29 AM

Whew! I seem to dimly remember them joking like that when I listend. I liked the "Fat Lee" comments - lol

Mondak 03-21-2006 06:56 AM

Heh - okay - maybe I should go back and read the rest of your other post now and see if you said anything. I went blank at "no Adama"

stevie667 04-19-2006 01:26 PM

After watching the cloud nine hostage ep, do they have something against lee and kara at the moment? They're really fraking those two up...

guthmund 04-20-2006 06:46 AM

They've taken a lot of the military stuff out....

I was watching the mini-series the other day because...you know...I'm a geek and soldiers were stopping to salute Adama in the hallways, they were opening doors for him, Tigh was giving navigational commands and roaming the CIC. I heard a lot of military-esque chatter between the deck officer and the pilots....

It was just a lot of little stuff that made the show feel more like Band of Brothers than the Young and the Restless.

thesupermikey 04-20-2006 07:14 AM

it does seem that a lot of the military stuff fell away. But i dont think it was made the show great. and frankly, i dont really miss it.

anther idea is that the longer the fleet was on the run, the more it broke down. When the pegisis showed up, one of Cain's problems with the Galactica was how much the military stucture had broke down.

stevie667 04-20-2006 01:06 PM

I can understand that, its abit like the whole voyager type scenario (because i've just been watching that on tv), the structure stays there initially, but it breaks down because of the cameraderie that develops, and the simple fact there is no longer a need for all this crap. There is still enough there for a military, but priorites change.

Would be nice to see some good military stuff again though.

Willravel 04-20-2006 02:49 PM

I suspect that we will be seeing more gurilla tactics than military in the coming episodes. Once Lee and Bill get back, maybe.

guthmund 04-21-2006 10:46 AM

It's not just the military stuff....it's the day to day stuff, which I guess the military stuff was a bit player in. I'd just like to be reminded every so often that they are on a ship instead of....the Peach Pit.

It's the little things once they're all added up that make this show so unique. It's why I watch. Someone mentioned in the Star Trek thread that ST:TNG was great until they kept using the holodeck. I don't know what they meant, but to me it meant unoriginal stories in impossible settings... Data, Geordi and Picard running through a Sherlock Holmes story is fun, I guess, but it isn't Star Trek.

SCI FI CHANNEL UNVEILS POWERHOUSE DEVELOPMENT SLATE

Unprecedented Commitment to Original Programming With Top Tier Creative Talent Including Jesse Alexander, Freddie Prinze Jr., Eric McCormack

NEW YORK SCI FI Channel's Mark Stern, EVP, Original Programming, announced today an aggressive slate of original scripted dramas, miniseries, alternative reality and late night series for the Channel. Already established as an industry leader with highly acclaimed and award-winning shows such as 'Battlestar Galactica,' SCI FI Channel's latest slate of high profile projects showcases top industry luminaries and offers imaginative, broad appeal entertainment.

Scripted Series

'CAPRICA'

From executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick ('Battlestar Galactica'), writer Remi Aubuchon ('24') and NBC Universal Television Studio, this new series is set over a half a century before the events that play out in 'Battlestar Galactica.' The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high-technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better. But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur, one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the first living robot - a Cylon. Following the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas (the family of William Adama, who will one day become the commander of the 'Battlestar Galactica') 'Caprica' weaves corporate intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television's first science fiction family saga.
So yeah....a galactica spin off. i wonder how this is going to go.

Fremen 04-26-2006 08:34 PM

Hmm, do we really need a Galactica spinoff?
Especially this soon after Galactica's been brought back?

I say no.

It sounds like a high-tech Dallas and Dynasty in another galaxy.

thesupermikey 04-26-2006 08:59 PM

something not clear from this, if Moore and Eick are going to split between shows, that could be a problem.

other shows have done it, Buffy spun off Angel without any problems (will the 4th season of angel) so maybe they can work between good shows if they get a good staff of writers and directors

im going to go along with it, i just hope that it doesnt take away the great minds of the BsG and weaken 1 show for the sake of 2

Willravel 04-26-2006 09:14 PM

I say wait on a spinoff. I really don't like the way that Atlantis went (I think the whole cast has beeen turned into Wraith at one point or anyother, kick a dead horse much?), and I'd HATE to see that happen to the best show on TV. While the premice is quite intreuging, it is too soon. BSG fans are just getting used to the time jump stuff..this is too much.

japhyryder 04-27-2006 05:53 AM

It might be good, I will give it a chance atleast... anyone know when 3 starts?

here is a little love to fill out non-galactica months

stevie667 05-12-2006 06:42 AM

Spoiler: right, lets see if i can get this. Firstly, is baltar a cylon? I missed the mini-series and first few episodes of season 1, and in the recent episodes it was stated six died in baltars house. Shouldn't he have died too?

Secondly, what the hell would happen to you if you jumped into a mountain. Would you suddenly turn into rock, a la star trek, suddenly appear inside a moutain, completly intact, and live until you ran out of air, or just appear and crash into the end of your newly formed hole due to intertia?

thesupermikey 05-12-2006 07:18 AM

Stevie667:

No baltar is not a Cylon. Six saved his life. Its not really clear whether he remembers what happened (we dont even know what happend) We see the blast destory the house - the next time we see him he is trying to get onto Boomer and Helo's raptor.

As for jumping into a moutain - would guess it would be instrant death from the reaction of Kara and Helo..

If they jumped into a cave or some sort of open space in the mountain, then they would be intact for a split second before they hit mountain. If there was no open space, then it's like the Pegasus ep of ST: TNG. You become one with the mountain. I'm figuring the odds are on the second one. Not a great way to go, but I imagine it's only painful for a fraction of a second. Mind you, this is all speculation. I don't know how jumping works.
