Hilton on SNL
Did anyone just see Paris Hilton ~ham~ it up with Jimmy Fallon on Weekend Update?
Brilliant. To me that was one of the crowning moment of SNL over the past twenty years. Extremely well written and fantastically executed. Jimmy Fallon as good as they come, as always, Tina looking dashing in her scarred lesbian beauty, as usual, and hosted by the brother of brothers, the rev, the big AS, the next President of the United States, Al Sharpton. Paris just answered alot of questions, after being asked none, essentially ending all discussion about any alledged scandal, and presenting herself as a beautiful, hieress. Exactly what she is. The skit with all those white boy pres candidates was exceptional as well. Never figured Edwards to be ~the eye~ for the straight guys. It works. PR, top shelf. Entertainment value, amusing. Longevity, assured. over, -bear |

Chevy Chase was the best Weekend Update newsman with Dennis Miller in second place on my list. The Recent people (~past 10-12 years) haven't really impressed me for the most part.

Chevy Chase is before my time. I would put Miller number one, and Norm McDonald (shout out to me hoser brethern) second.
I have no problem with Fallon. I especially like Tina Fey. She is apparently a long time (10 year) writing staff alum who got the nod from Lorne of a life time. This is the first time SNL has offered a dual host format. It's actually the first women as well I believe. I think Tina and Jimmy play well together. I have really enjoyed WU of late. Paris' cameo this Saturday was spectacular. Al Shaprton's hosting and participation was pretty good too. out, -b

I stand corrected. I always thought that Jane was just a frequent contributor to Chevy's weekend update. Was he solo before or after Jane? I remember his sign off of "I'm Chevy Chase....and your not."
BTW...When I offered that Chevy was before my time, in the 70's I was but a single digit aged youngster (born in 70), so I wasn't a frequent viewer. Obviously I remember him, and have even seen the reruns, but WU is very topical and current affairs based. Miller came along when I was a regular SNL viewer, I had a little more then a sophmores grasp of the worlds going ons, and had the most impact on my experience. -bear

I thought it was hilarious! I don't normally watch anymore, but I turned it on just in time for this segment. "so there is a Paris Hilton", "I'm a star, and I'll need to access the rear entrance". My 10 year old was laughing with me, and of course he didn't get the jokes, but I laughed out loud!

HAHA!!! I never watch SNL any more, but i turned the TV on just as it was ending, when everyone was together waving goodbye. I saw someone who looked alot like Paris Hilton, and kept thinking "Wow, I didn't know there was a Paris Hilton look-a-like on the the cast. She REALLY looks like her!"
I'm apparently a dumbass who can't tell one pop culture celebrity from a hole in the ground...

I loved Chase and Curtain, they will always be the benchmark for SNL news. But Fallon and Fey are also great. It's true that Fallon can't always keep a straight face, but that just makes it even funnier! Fey is also a senior writer for the show. She's funny and cute!

Thought Paris was a hell of a good sport about the whole thing, considering the subject. She held her own very well, even though it was obviously scripted.
PH: There are Hiltons in New York, London, Paris.. JF: Wait, there is a 'Paris Hilton'? PH: Yes. JF: Is it hard to get into the Paris Hilton? PH: Actually, it's a very exclusive hotel, no matter what you've heard. JF: Do they allow double occupancy at the Paris Hilton? PH: No! JF: Is the Paris Hilton roomy? PH: It might be for you, but most people find it very comfortable. JF: I'm a VIP. I may need to go in the back entrance. PH: It doesn't matter who you are. It's not gonna happen.

Man I always miss those good SNL moments. But I refuse to watch it regularly.
SNL has been horribly bad for quite a while. They need some new blood. I liked Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon when they first started Weekend Update, but now realize that their jokes have kid gloves on (they're just too PC) and their self-concious delivery ("look at us, we're telling news jokes, and if they bomb at least WE get it and still have each other") sucks. |

WU Norm and Dennis were my favorites. I still use the "Jane you ignorant slut" line occasionally. Classic. But McDonald and Miller were my favorites as I grew up.
