Surround Sound Speaker set suggestions?
Okay, a friend is looking to get his parents a set of surround sound speakers (1 middle, 4 satellite, 1 sub) and the receiver. He is looking to spend -at most- (including shipping) $300, but wants something fairly good for watching DVD's and the such.
If this isn't possible, just say so; he doesn't want to spend $300 for a set of speakers and receiver. Thanks in advance. |
Well, anythings possible. It mostly depends on what kind of quality he's wanting. I know for a fact that JBL has a 200 watt speaker set that debuted around 640 dollars but was findable around 200 dollars as of last year. A 100 dollar reciever isn't anything to write home about, no matter how well you shop, but I know that for my parents, it'd probably be more than they'd ever need.

Try www.etronics.com, hit home theater and search by price.
I found this http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?...re=&catid=4221 pretty quickly. Sorry for not formatting links. You can get Kenwood, JVC, Sony systems that are perfect for the parents...even if they aren't what you would want for yourself. |
Personally I prefer this site, they sell directly to you. There is no middle man involved and they have high quality products.
http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/ Edit: For under $300 your friend can get a full set of decent to good speakers from this site, just tell him to look around :) |
Most people can get agreeable sound from a HTIB (home theater in a box) system. JVC, Panasonic, Toshiba, Zenith, and Yamaha all make decent systems in the $300 range.

I like the set of Klipsch speakers that I have on the computer, and my girlfriend says that they were originally $300 or so. Of course, they're computer speakers. Computer speakers aren't the only kind that Klipsch produces, though.
