'X2: X-men United', Now that you've seen it...
Okay, first off I'd like to brag about the fact that I was amongst the first in the world to see X2 at a public screening down here in New Zealand. Yup at 11:59pm on Tuesday the 29th of April the lights dimmed and the pictures rolled.
Having followed this movie since day one my anticipation and expectations were incredibly high. Surely the final product would not be able to lice up to these high hopes. I was proven wrong, oh, so very, very wrong. The movie in a word is Amazing... no Astounding... no Uncanny... hell, any word that can describe the "oh my god" factor of leaving the theatre only to want more will fit in here. I don't want to spoil the plot nor any scenes in the movie but it is with strong enthusiasm that I say go see this movie!!! One thing I will say however is that comicbook geeks such as myself will love the little references such as Hank McCoy on TV or Gambit's (Remy's) name on a computer file. And the muchos gracias reference is to the great Dark Phoenix storyline but I'll say no more of that. Go see it! NOW, and if you have seen it, what do you think? p.s. one thing I didn't like about the movie was the fact that I had downloaded so many trailers, making ofs and countingdown.com x2 clips that it spoiled a lot of the movies "moments"... actually that's my fault. |

SPOILER FILLED POST
Quote:
You may have noticed that throughout the film Jean's powers were going odd, they were weak, then too powerful and each time she used them her eyes lit up with fire. In the comicbooks, back in 1996 (I think) there was a story called the Phoenix Force. I dare not explain it otherwise X3 will be ruined for you but I'll just say that this force is insanely powerful, powerful enough to destroy an entire planetary system. This force is within Jean. In the final shot of the film you see the Phoenix rising from the watery grave. It's late, gotta get into bed, laters! |

Saw it Friday Nite.
Pretty good flick I thought, better than the first one. I haven't followed Xmen in years, but I still know enough to appreciate what they've done with Jean Grey and the Dark Phoenix overtures. Also, I thought Magneto was done VERY well in this picture.

Good movie, even if your someone like me and didnt even realise that half the references were references in the movie =)
notable scenes are the first one with the german guy (OMG that ruled), and Wolverine vs the nail chick (a close second). many other excellent scenes, but i dont think i'll watch it again... or not until i've read some more about the X-Men backstory |

I saw it last night and it was totally amazing. Best parts were right at the beginning w/ nightcrawler and when Wolverine just went postal on all the soldiers in the mansion. Special mention also goes to the one scene w/ collossus and when Magneto ripped all the iron outta the guards blood. The matrix trailer they showed before it was tres cool too..

If you missed it, the Gambit reference was in the scene where Mystique was looking through the computer files at the plans for cerebro 2. There was a list of names and one of them was LeBeau, Remy. Nightcrawler was freakin' awesome! He's always been my favorite character and I thought that they did a great job with him. Some of my friends didn't know much more about x-men than what they saw in the first movie, so they thought I was nuts when I got really excited at the last shot over the lake. They didn't expect anything, so they didn't even realize that they were seeing anything more than a funny reflection of light.
Yeah... I'm gonna have to see it again...

I just got back from seeing it. It was a pretty good sequel though I was somewhat disappointed. Nightcrawler was bad ass until the cathedral scene where he starts spouting off religious references. Why the fuck didn't Collossus have a bigger role? He would of torn all those special ops guys up. He's russian, why did he speak perfect english? Also how come Wolverine didn't remember Yuriko a.ka. Deathstryke? They hooked up in the comics. I didn't like how they killed Jean Grey off like that in end. She could of easily gotten out of the way after they x-jet away. Fuck you hollywood.

Jesus Pimp, don't worry, Jean isn't dead!
I agree about Yuriko though, that's two of Wolverine's Nemesis' (or is it Nemeses?) that they failed to develop! I hated the fact that Sabretooth was useless in X-Men 1, and was disheartened by Deathstrike not wanting revenge upon Wolvie... but hey, both movies have been of an incredibly high standard, who am I to complain, at least Wolverine got to snikt some ass. I heard from someone that it was her Phoenix powers that were fuxxoring the jet and that's why she had to get out. I"m seeing it again tomorrow, so if that becomes clear, I'll let you know. It didn't seem to be really obvious...which made her death seem stupid.

It does look more obvious second time around, you see that her right hand is with the X-Jet and her left hand is holding back the wave. Nightcrawler also says that Jean won't let him teleport and Storm says "She's controlling the ship!", there's a short shot of the X-Jet's landing gear coming out of the snow thanks to Jean too.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of cameos in the flick. Collosus was cool, and Siryn! Very nice surprise! Jason Wyndgarde (or Stryker) as Mastermind....didn't hear ANYTHING about that.
Something else I noticed on the computer screens as Mystique was hacking the files....there was a file that said, "Guthrie (x2)" obviously refferring to Sam and Paige a.k.a. Cannonball and Husk. NICE throwaway to us geeks. I felt this movie felt more like one of the comics, what with the mansion being attacked, the team split amongtst the country, and the characters were already established. Can't wait for a third one, when it will be all about Pheonix and Gambit (hopefully!) |

I loved it. I never read any xmen comics so I don't know where or how the characters fall into place. I loved it cause there seemed never to be a boring part of the movie. The best part I thought was when wolverine went apeshit and started stabbing and cutting the swat team that invaded xavier's school. Great special effects and action scenes. Definately one of those movies that I will buy on dvd asap.

sweet... more metal man! I wonder what they're going to do with Pyro in the next one? It's been so long since I've read any of the comics that I don't even remember what side (good/evil) that he was affiliated with. Do you think X3 will have his redemption? I'm really hoping that they bring Gambit into the next one. I'd also like to see Rouge take Ms. Marvel's (I think that's the right one) powers so she can start doing more.
On a side note, did anyone catch which of the kids was Jubilee?

Just saw the movie yesterday. It was great! I really wish I knew more X-Men backstory, then I could apreciate the movie even more. I'll just have to do some good 'ole internet research. I can't wait for the third film now. What was the shot of the phoenix in the last shot some people are talking about? All I saw was some water.

Woo. I saw it today. It was just.. Good lord. I don't wanna lie, so I will just say that it's the best movie I have ever seen. Some of the things I felt made it really good were:
a) strong character development b) lack of ridiculous amounts of poetic license (It could have been worse, y'all) c) accurately capturing a wide range of human emotions I had adrenaline pumping through me through every second of that movie, and I can't say that there are many other movies that have that effect on me. The movie kind of yanked me in, and I was feeling what the characters were feeling, at least on a small level. I cannot wait for the third one. I want to go see the second one again. I don't have too many complaints about the movie, though I know some things were out of place. I liked the movie too much to let a few things that weren't exactly like the comics ruin it for me. If you think about it, if things were exactly the way they were in the comics, the movies would probably be long as hell. I know plenty of people who would complain about that. That's an awful lot of details to cover. I can't wait to see Colossus in the next one. That's gonna kick ass. And since they threw Beast (in human form) in there, he -has- to be in the next one. And.. ach. I've rambled on enough.
