Which Star Trek Series is best
Hey
I've recently got dsl and I'm wondering which star trek series I should download from peer-to-peer networks. Does anyone have any opinion on this ? I've heard that the new enterprise series is ok if your new to Star Trek because it's about the fearst human mission into space..... |
Next Generation Hands down.
make sure you do get a chance to watch the whole original series. Next Gen rally polished and explored what the original series first touched upon. Deep space nine is ok, the first few season were pretty lacking and with out focus. for the last seasons , the Producers took a hint from the success of Babylons 5 Massive Strutured story arc and ratings went up(tho some absolutly despise the whole War Arc). Voyager, OMG total crap, yes the doctor is funny, yes 7 of 9 is Hot, but we dont need 5 seasons worth of episodes on them. Note : Borg are reaveled to be total push overs. Enterprise, Hmmmm they kinda crapped it mid way first season, but i personnaly think that the new changes for the new seasons are indeed making it better. (tho i agree short blond hair vulcan babe is ratings grab. ) |
The original.
HANDS FUCKING DOWN. |
The latter seasons of Deep Space Nine are solid. Once Next Generation ended DSN had control of the Star Trek universe and could really go nuts. It became a great series.
That said, I'd have to say that Next Generation would be my favourite followed very closely by DSN. |
This should be a fun thread. :D Star Trek is like a religion to true Trekkies, and there always seems to be a huge dividing line between Original Series fans, and Next Generation fans.
While I'm not a Trekkie myself, I still can't tear myself away from watching Shatner, Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley doing there incredible over-acting at every opportunity! :) Original Series for me, just for that reason. |
Original and Next Generation
|
My vote goes to the original series.
|
also, Shatner could beat up Picard anyday.
|
Next Generation, easily. The Original Series is great - don't get me wrong - but the Next Generation has better stories, better acting, and is just better all-around. Original Series is good if you want to watch more light-hearted and campy episodes, but it's not the work of art that Next Generation is. The others are all decent, but don't compare to the Original Series or Next Generation.
|
I'm going with Deep Space Nine.
It took the trek world beyond episodic shows and showed what could be done with good characterization and writing. The story arcs were smart and interesting. The acting was first rate. And it did a deft job of balancing all the aspects of a good show. Now if they would just make a movie based on it. |
Damn. This is a tough call. I like them all a lot. I love the Original Series (TOS) a whole bunch, cuz Kirk is my hero. I love Next Generation (TNG) because it had it all, action, philosophy, etc. DS9 was just a kick ass sho towards the end with the Dominion Wars. Voyager, what can I say, Jeri Ryan... mmmmmm... crap, I need new pants. Enterprise, there have been some complaints about the show from the hard core Trekkies, but I like it, I like it a lot. I guess if I had to choose, it would be TOS, because it's what I grew up watching when I was in Japan when I was a little kid, I cut my teeth on that show.

next gen is the best no question
even the bad episodes are very very good |
Next Generation, just because I have so many childhood memories from watching it with my father.
|
I fuckin hate Next Generations. Personally, it was all about one or two shows that were connected and that's it. And I hate fuckin shows that are like that (Eg: Xfile's first and second season, Outer Limits, etc). Deep Space nine were like that at first but it fukin totally ended awesome. How often do you get to watch fleet battles in Star Trek?
I never saw original series, I'm deaf and they don't have any fukin captions so, I can't say much about it. Voyager was kinda lame, how often do you have ships that just fukin poofs outta no where and end up in the middle of the most hostile territory in the galaxy and battle shitload of borg and species 81-what-ever-the-fuck-the-number-is etc etc. Especiallly if it was just one tiny little ship compared to Galaxy class starships. Enterprise on the other hand is all about sex appeals. I mean, comon people. Honestly, how many of you wouldn't like to hit that sexy vulcan eh? I like enterprise but damn T'Pol is hot! STNG doesn't seem to connect to the "current" human race. I mean, they're all Mr. Shakespeare and Honour and shits like that and that's just gay. Deep Space nine has more conflicts, especially between and within specices. Enterprise is similar, same goes for Voyager. Can't say much about TOS. Did I mention that T'Pol is hot? Damn! Can't wait for the espiode where Trip gets it on with her! Lucky bastard... |
surprised to see so many people touting deep space nine, i thought i was in a pretty small group of people who thought that was a great series. the writing was very good and the relationships that were built between the characters kept getting better and better. the cardassian characters were really well written, very rich. next generation became better as time went on too, but the first season is pretty bad. voyager and enterprise are both pretty bad in my opinion.

I agree with red. Next Generation was great, but DS9 just takes the win. |
Ditto on DS9 ... Loved the series. Would buy it on DVD's - I'd get it over the others if I were you. :)
|
The Next Generation. One of my favorite TV series. If you can watch 10 straight hour-long episodes on a marathon and still want to see more then you know you're watching a good series. The original series is good, but TNG is better with my viewings. I couldn't get into the later series (Deep Space 9, etc.).

I'm gonna have to go with The Next Generation.
But it's almost by default, as my experience with the all the other series (serieii?) is pretty limited. DS9, Voyager and Enterprise never got my attention enough to keep me coming back each week. DS9 is getting a lot of praise here... I just checked out Amazon, and it looks like the whole series is on DVD. I get the impression that the show had some really good story arcs toward the end of its run. So which seasons should I check out on DVD? |
Gotta be TNG. Hated DS9, thought Voyager was mediocre, think Enterprise is getting better - but still has a long way to go. I think Babylon5 reset the playing field and the trek crew needs to catch up...

The beginnings of the DW started around season four actually. It then kicked up into high gear midway thru the fifth and ended midway thru the seventh. (Remember, Star Trek series are now only considered seven season series). Though I agree, DS9 got popular because of the DW, it was still bad ass, starship fleet battles make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
|
I have to agree with the DS9 people. I loved this show, seeing O'Brian's character being fleshed out from TNG was great. (How many people remember him as the teleporter guy? :) )
Avery Brooks stole the show though as far as acting goes with Terry Farrell & Micheal Dorn come in as a close second and third. Like RedRavin said, this show has excellent actors and acting. I’d say the first few seasons were decent to good, but by the end of the show's run you have the best Trek show to date. TNG was and is great in its own right, but DS9 holds the number one spot in my book. |
They all kicked major ass, and I prefer NG and DS9, but I think NG takes the lead. The story did follow, you might not see it extremely obvious but with thought of it, there was a storyline moving through. Deep Space had its definate bonuses, one of them being they had the huge space station as a main plot. Everything went down there, and so they could be in many places thus they could have 3 episodes and barely touch the whole place. On that note, you'd see people interact on the whole ship. To top that off they ended up getting the Defiance (my favorite ship btw) so that they could do missions elsewhere as well. But I like to look at the Captains to figure out which episode comes on top. Sisko was great, and if you pissed him off, he'd thwack you for it. :D BUT.... Picard had a most brilliant mind, and a cool temper. On top of that Q simply loved to mingle with him, a definate bonus in my book. :)

I'd KILL for a Star Trek movie featuring Q :D

Damn right, what a smartass. I loved the episodes with him...or it. He always fucked around with the crew. Episodes like the Q ones were what makes TNG stand out. Ha ha, I want to go watch it now. I wonder when the next TNG marathon airs? -Lasereth |
Voyager, because they truly went where no man had gone before. Plus Jeri Ryan....soooo hot
|
TOS is my absolute favorite. Fun, action, science, philosophy and more packed together with a great cast. There is nothing quite like Kirk fighting hand to hand with some alien. But of course, Next Generation is a very, very close second.

TNG was by far and away my favorite. The different peoples were awesome. The Borg, for one, freaked me out big time, the Klingons, Ferrengi, Cardassians, Romulans... all were cool. |
I have to do with the Generations. I can watch those over and over and anytime they are on. I think the cast is fantastic and the story writing is superb. Not to mention they got Troi later on who is so friggin' hot. Im particularly fond of Q as well.

Star Trek Movie w/ Q..... best idea evar! Ya know, we should all get together and just come up with a script and force the Paramount idiots what to film. Mwahahahaa! Too bad they don't take unsolicited work. :(
|
Actually I'd been working on an idea for a DS9 movie that had Q.
Opening scene is Quark walking around a huge casino that was the fordeck of the station, congratulating himself for all the profit he is making and behind him you see the worm hole open. A huge gout of flame comes pouring out. Too bad Paramount won't even try to do something. |
I haven't seen TOS but I hear it's quite good. But among the ones that have been released in the last two decades I think the clear favorite is TNG. DS9 was high quality as well and some of my friends liked Voyager but I always wanted to slap them after they told me that.
|
I love Deep Space 9, but they want an arm and a leg for the dvd sets.
|
has to be TOS -
best: 0) ship (Constitution class is tougher in context by far than any of the others) 1) uniforms that constant low background noise in all of the shipboard scenes just that adds something special edit: also less bullshit Federation politics that is prominent in most of the later series with the possible exception of the isloted Voyager crew |

the proper phrase is 'trekker' -/pedantic- |
DS9 hands down. Complex characters with comples relationships. The dominion war arc. The whole Bajoran mythology. The defiant. I don't think any of the other shows had as many interesting and unique elements.
